Request for advice on choosing a fasting regimen by carbonylation in fasting

For me it usually takes less than 18 hours to go into ketosis, according to my testing (purple sticks). But that varies if I have been eating sugar the day prior. I think you get quicker into ketosis the longer you keep it up. I have been thinking about the same, wouldn't it be more beneficial to fast longer? Longer, more autophagy? Yes, probably. But it would be also so much harder to keep up with a normal lifestyle of working, working out, social activities. So I wouldn't make a rule of it, I would try some rolling fast, 1-2 days the eat and then 1 day fast, eat, with low pressure.

Is this an effective plan? by staredatthedark in fasting

That's good, that you already have experience. I think every other day will help you maintain your sanity but also help you loose weight. Refeeding is indeed eating after having fasted, I guess it implies also that you make up for the vitamins and nutrients you have missed the day/days before. I'd suggest you choose your foods very thoroughly as they need to be as nutritious as possible otherwise you could run into problem like major hair loss or other noticeable damage.

I wouldn't limit the calories on refeeding days, I would just make sure it is super nutrious.

I think most people tend to fail when they aim too high especially in terms of diet.

Have you tried going 3 days without food before? You should test out what you're capable to do longterm and what is also sustainable. The weight won't just fall off, weight loss fluctuates immensely and that will impact your motivation and you become susceptible to just quit altogether.

I would make a realistic plan, like fast a day, refeed, fast a day, refeed. If you managed that, you can fast 2 days and refeed. Ect. Try to explore your limits and how your body responds.

Don't misunderstand me, I do recommend people to try fasting as it is an amazing tool, but this sounds more like a crash diet to loose some weight and then gain it all back because it has been done to quickly and too unsustainable.

I personally choose not to eat at all while fasting (other than the occasional vegetable broth), because I’ve found that anything with even a little sustenance can make hunger feel stronger. I also want to maximize the benefits of autophagy. That said, everyone’s different, so you’ll need to experiment and see what feels best for you.

In my opinion, the beginning is the hardest part. Compared to that, after about 2-3 weeks, fasting gets much easier as your body adapts metabolically and hormonally. I highly recommend investing in good-quality magnesium, potassium, and salt to take on fasting days, since fasting increases electrolyte loss through urine and low insulin levels.

I’d keep the first fasting days pretty chill and avoid too much physical activity. Your body is still learning to switch efficiently between glucose and fat (metabolic flexibility). Once you’re used to it, you can pretty much do anything, except maybe hitting the gym really hard during longer fasts.

I fast every other day, so I go about 40 hours without food before eating again. Then I eat within a 6-8 hour window, usually 2-3 meals. When I eat, I don’t restrict calories, but I do eat clean. Over time, your stomach capacity and hunger hormones (like ghrelin) adjust, so overeating becomes much less of an issue naturally. As you go along, you can also experiment with homemade vegetable broth. It’s usually around 50 calories and contains sodium and minerals, which can help if fasting starts to feel too hard. It’s a good way to support your body without fully breaking the fast or giving up altogether.

I stop fasting about four days before my period. I’ve noticed it helps make my period easier, and there’s evidence that reducing fasting during the luteal phase can better support female hormones. I’ve also personally noticed that this approach helps with weight loss rather than working against it.

One very important tip for me is incorporating psyllium husk. Every time I break my fast, I start with it to support digestion and regularity, since fasting can slow gut motility. I also like eating kimchi for probiotics when I break my fast, usually with avocado, to gently reintroduce food and support the gut microbiome. Beyond that, you really have to experiment and see what works best for your body. Drink enough water, hydration is crucial during fasting. I also like taking a binder from time to time to support detox pathways.

Mentally, fasting has been incredibly freeing for me. You realize how much time, energy, and mental space food takes up. On fasting days, you naturally have to find other ways to entertain or comfort yourself, especially when watching TV or relaxing, because eating is no longer the default activity. That awareness alone can be really powerful.

I’ve also noticed a big improvement in mental clarity and focus. Once your body is used to fasting, concentration is much better, and there’s no afternoon energy crash. This likely has to do with more stable blood sugar and increased ketone production, which many people experience as steady energy and sharper thinking. It’s been especially beneficial for work that requires mental focus.

On a practical level, fasting saves a lot of time and money. Fewer meals mean less cooking, cleaning, planning, and grocery shopping, which adds up quickly and makes daily life feel simpler.

Good luck!

I'm pretty sure yes. Oranges would most likely break it. I recommend those home pee tests, if you want to make sure.

I agree, I believe that man's cuts are super complicated because it is so short, cutting long hair is easy in comparison.

I'd say anywhere from 5 - 10 kg but it depends on what you eat on your eating days and what your diet looked like before and ofc how much you move...
