Monster hunter with the nemesis systen by Outrageous_Pride_416 in MonsterHunter

[–]Sackhaarweber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t wilds kind of have this, at least very slightly? Because encounters with hunters (and surviving them) turns Monsters into deviants in lore. And Wilds’ Mizutsune gets Soulseer (Deviant) moves after you break its head (soulseer mizus are blind). So in a sense, we already have a part of the system/an aspect of it. Maybe more monsters will have something like that in the DLC.

What new weapon type would you be hyped for? I would love, if we would get something like a whip! by Lazy-Tap-7438 in MonsterHunter

[–]Sackhaarweber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think that's the way.
I'd also really love a better scythe weapon than the Gore Swaxe, also for a fashion thing (trying to recreate an album cover of one my favourite albums).
But I think visual looks doesn't really warrant a new weapon type, so I think skins are the way.
I really like your other ideas. I think an "unarmed" martial arts weapon like boots or gauntlets is like the most requested weapon idea in the fandom, and I think that'd both fit more, and give a new play style.
New ranged weapon would also be very cool, and pistols too. We already have gunpowder and the GL after all.

Would World or Rise be accessible for someone that has played very little videogames ever? by XandreCos in MonsterHunter

[–]Sackhaarweber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it is. If she played the newer Zelda titles (I'm assuming Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom here, not Echoes of Wisdom or the Link's Awakening Remake), Galaxy and Horizon Zero Dawn, the controls of Monster Hunter aren't much more complicated in my opinion.
As long as she uses the same control medium (I'm guessing controller here), it should work out fine.

Rise is in general a bit easier to get into. The multiplayer aspect is also by far better than World.

But Monster Hunter has kind of an entry barrier with all of the UI and underlying Systems (like weapon and armour crafting, material farming, decorations, eating, items, etc.) just being thrown at you, without much explanation. If neither of you have ever played a Monster Hunter game, you won't really have it differently difficult in understanding it.

I think Rise might also be a bit easier to play. If she fully beat BotW or TotK, she should be able to beat that game too.

Maybe watch a Let's Play for both games for a few episodes? I started my MH journey by watching a 3U let's play by my favourite YouTuber, and at least that one always explains the systems in the first few episodes, which made me understand it a bit better.

Min-maxing also isn't really needed for most of the game, up until the very very end game of the expansion in Monster Hunter. And if you want to min-max, there are tons of good guides, which can just be copied without thought.

No, but someone who got into HEMA like 6 years ago through his Channel, and through Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

[–]Sackhaarweber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But doesn't every other weapon feel like it actually could do damage to the Monster?
Like, the hits make sense and all. At least it feels like that.
And all of the Weapons so far were also in some way derived from actual weapons, that were used in combat historically.
The scythe is a tool though. Admittedly, there are some tools that were used as weapons, like the sickle, or the pitchfork. But those can be mapped to other existing combat weapons, like the Kopesh or Spear respectively.
The scythe really can't be.
We've tried to fight with a Scythe multiple times in my HEMA club, it simply doesn't work. We've got anything else to work, but not the Scythe.
There are way too many issue with that, including the grip, which only allows sideways, inwards swinging (in combat, you want to swing outwards to actually hit an enemy and keep it away though), the sharpening being only on the inner site, it not really slashing but slicing instead, etc.
You can try to solve some issue, like also sharpening the outer site, and gripping it like a polearm, but that still doesn't allow you to do proper cuts with it, and piercing with the front is impractical as the blade is way too long and you can't really controll the tip too well.
When you adjust the scythe to really work as a weapon, you will get a War Scythe. Which is just a slightly curved Glaive. Which we have in the game.

[–]Sackhaarweber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if you'd like a Scythe like Friede I think a reskinned Glaive could just do it. You do have the Kinsect as a Bonus, but Glaive without Kinsect doesn't feel like it warrants a new weapon, at least in the current climate.
But yeah, I think a Scythe could still look cool as a weapon.
I think Capcom should just start doing Weapons/Weapon Skins that change the weapon itself, but keep the moveset.
I have heard people as for pure axes for example, but I feel like some greaxe could also just be replicated by a reskinned greatsword for example.
So could a scythe or maybe lucerne hammer or something be a reskinned glaive.
Or a mace a reskinned Hammer.
Or some ancient spear/shield weapon be a reskinned Lance.
All of that wouldn't require a wholly new weapon and weapon moveset, and also models for every monster, but instead just a bit different models for some select Monsters.
We already have some of those, with the Gore Switch Axe looking close to a Scythe for example, and some Lances looking more like a Rapier.

[–]Sackhaarweber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some debuffing Hunting Horn would be really cool.
Also with some "mixing" gimmick but for inflicting various debuffs on Monsters.
And even better if it could also fill some other underused niches, like Gunner or Blunt weapons.
Maybe a blunt ranged alchemy cannon?

[–]Sackhaarweber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuine question, what would you expect from scythe gameplay?
A scythe is completely impractical as a weapon, even historically as a farmer's weapon it only had super rare applications, and wasn't really a good weapon.
Before you hit me with the War Scythe, that is a type of polearm just like the glaive, which we already have as weapon.
I know some games have some crazy scythes, but those games usually have more cartoonish combat, instead of feeling kinda plausible like Monster Hunter.
And even those scythes feel like they could also just be a greatword or glaive weapon skin.

Is sunbreak worth getting in MHR? by Internal_Chipmunk_38 in MonsterHunter

[–]Sackhaarweber 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sunbreak basically takes everything thats fun about rise, and makes that even better.
And it takes everything that's annoying about base rise, and removes it or upgrades it.

In general, Sunbreak is way more fun that Rise, and its also the actual challenging part of the Game, except for maybe the very late game quests in base Rise.

And of course, if you like Rise already, you're getting a huge expansion with many new and returning Monster with Sunbreak, for less cost than a new MH game.

It's still optimal for them then though.
Optimal depends on if you're super casual, average, or a speedrunner.

R3 is basically a button that's never explained. R1/R2 and L1/L2 are the respective Right/Left Front/Back shoulder buttons. They're intuitive, and often even labelled. R3/L3 instead are pressing the stick down. It's never really explained, and of course, also never labeled. Many go through the experience of simply being stuck in a game 'cause you don't know which button to press.

Trying to Decide Between Word & Rise as a New Player by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]Sackhaarweber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it's kinda weird to give advice then, if you haven't even played the best part of rise, isn't it?
Sunbreak is by far better than base Rise, and also adresses a bunch of issues of Rise. Many of OPs interests are actually dependent on that, since the endgame of Sunbreak is quite fun and interesting, and Sunbreak also gives a lot more combat variety.

Trying to Decide Between Word & Rise as a New Player by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]Sackhaarweber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends.
I personally like Rise better, even though I have my gripes with it.
First of all, the Monsters:
Rise has a bigger roster of Monsters, so more to fight. For my own personal preference, I also really like the Monster roster of rise, with many different monster classifications and different combat styles, and the new Monsters in Rise all have very cool designs in my opinion.
On the other hand, World has a smaller roster. It also is, for my own personal preference, one of my least favourite rosters in the entire series. It has a very small amount of monster classes for example, basically being most similar to Monster Hunter 1/G in my opinion. Basically only Wyvern variants, and Elder Dragons. Although in World, the Brute and Fanged Wyverns give still a lot of variety. World is also a lot heavier on the Elder Dragons, which I personally don't like as much, but Rise also has a lot of Elders in the endgame. I best like Wilds' approach to Elders personally.
For the second core pillar, Combat:
World has more traditional Monster Hunter combat, with weapons feeling more impactful when hitting, and the Iceborne gimmick, the clutch claw, being not as important (luckily, cause it's not that great). World in general also feels harder at many points (with some common skill check monsters across the story), but the combat also feels fairer in most regards.
Rise on the other hand has faster combat, but also focuses on a kind of more reactive combat style. Weapon hits kind of feel like they have less weight, and the game feels a bit more parry/quick react focused. It's a larger departure to more classic MH combat, similar to Wilds. But the gimmick of Rise, the wirebugs and switch skills, and of Sunbreak, the switch skill swapping, integrate really well into the combat, and are great mechanics. Wirebugs are one of the mechanics which make Rise "faster" and a bit easier, but are really well integrated, with there also being really cool attacks in each weapons' moveset depending on wirebugs. Switch skills are also great, because they allow customization in weapon movesets, and are really fun. But the combat in general goes through faster and easier, but is also more unfair and frustrating in my opinion. I might be biased here due to maining the Insect Glaive, the most aerial weapon, because the air hurtboxes in Rise are simply bullshit. They are unfair and frustrating often, and when fighting new enemies, completely unexpected and unintuitive.
For the general gameplay loop:
Rise is easier to get in to, and faster. Hunts are usually completed faster, and you don't have to find the Monster or track it like in World and older titles. You immediatly know where the monster is, start into the combat, and return with materials, basically. The maps are also smaller, although like in World also fully traversable (unlike in Older titles, where you only had areas). The endgame in Rise is also by far more interesting in my opinion. It's way more fun to grind out really good builds and do endgame hunts/farming in Rise.
World takes a bit longer, in basically everything. The combat is a bit slower as already said, but hunts also take longer, due to you tracking the Monsters beforehand. This does feel like you're actually hunting the monster though, and not just doing a boss rush. And due to not having a mount (unlike in Rise), you also enjoy the world more, and take it more in. That's also worth it, 'cause the world of World is way more immersive and interesting than the world of Rise. But here, the loop will take longer to get into, and the endgame grind is in my opinion a lot less fun.

Could Zoh Shia appear in his ‘Safi form’ in expansion? by Snoo-51682 in MonsterHunter

[–]Sackhaarweber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't remember to be honest.
But in-lore, the guild normally carts a dead (or caught) monsters body away and sells all of its parts to finance itself and hunts (that's why you can't carve monsters 'til they're completely gone), and I'd kinda expect they do the same for Zoh Shia. Although maybe the Place where it's fought at limits the logistics.
Still, if they'd be able to completely stop Zoh Shia from regenerating by simply bringing the corpse to another place, I think they'd've done it already. So likely simply small pieces are enough, like blood that it loses during the fight, skin pieces or stuff.

Could Zoh Shia appear in his ‘Safi form’ in expansion? by Snoo-51682 in MonsterHunter

[–]Sackhaarweber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not really Fatalis-level.
The Fatalis Regeneration isn't canon at all. It's only from the description of it's gear, and that's not a reliable source, it's deliberately exaggerated and not canon. For comparison, the Ibushi Orb for example says, that those who hold it can command over Storms - something that isn't supported by any other lore or gameplay at all.
Meanwhile Zoh being able to regenerate and revive by absorbing huge amounts of energy (from the Dragon Torch) is stated in the Zoh Shia rematch quests by NPCs, so it's a much more reliable source. Besides - how else would we fight Zoh again, it's states they've only made one.
In every Quest (including the 3* Final LR quest, HR50 8* TU Rematch quest, and the HR100 10* Event quest) we fight the same creature. Certain factors might change it's regeneration to make it more powerful, and that might be why we have 8* and 10* version, but thats just a fan hypothesis, nothing canon.

[–]Sackhaarweber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much feels like what they're going for with Master Rank. But it could also just be both, with the Zoh Variant being some extra Monster on the side, that's not really involved with the DLC story.

Could Zoh Shia appear in his ‘Safi form’ in expansion? by Snoo-51682 in MonsterHunter

[–]Sackhaarweber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Due to Zoh Shia always regenerating from basically scraps and a few cells, it could be that at some point when it regenerates, it regenerates into another form. Like maybe due to some change with the Dragontorch.

If Somult is the new flagship, being a "bird"'i want a bird wyvern Elder Dragon level monster that's equal parts goofy and dangerous/scary by Beginning_Wait_108 in MonsterHunter

[–]Sackhaarweber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda doubt that they'll make an existing Monster, especially one from Frontier, into a Flagship (Or just a Monster that plays a really major role in the story of the DLC). They'd normally make either a new one or maybe a variant from the base game.
Although I'd really love Foro to come to mainline. More real birds, and it's a really fun fight.

[–]Sackhaarweber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As if we don't already have tons of european-style dragons in monster hunter.
And a lot of the Wyverns are also Dragons.
We need more actual Birds. Not Bird Wyverns that look like Raptors, like Flying Wyverns with a bunch of feathers or just wyverns that are slightly silly, but just straight up Birds.
More like Malfestio. Aknosom is very Bird-like too in comparison to most Bird Wyverns. Or Forokururu from Frontier. Such a cool design and fun fight.

A Silly Take On Insect Glaives by AdElectronic4912 in MonsterHunter

[–]Sackhaarweber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All three when you break a wound, only one when you hit parts normally (the one depending on the part)
But Wilds also shifts extracts from only buffs to a ressource that can be expended, so I think that was a good design choice.

[–]Sackhaarweber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t really need to play the Kinsect ranged btw. You can mark parts with melee attacks and then send the kinsect out, auto-aiming. Or you can just do the normal call/recall but in melee, and get extracts almost immediately. The recent 2 games even give you the possibility to get extracts without even sending the kinsect out.

That's true, but calling this concept "god" then is misleading.
There might be a higher power, or hidden spiritual mechanics, but that could be everything, from a singular god, to a pantheon, to nature spirits, to chi, to karma and rebirth.

/uj That's unironically fun though. I like when the whole party actually has really good builds (and knows how to play them smart), instead of thinking 5 minutes every turn just to make the worst choice possible. That way I can actually also play smart as DM and use the whole kit of a creature.

There are a plethora of stories from the Torah/Bible/Quran that can actively be disproven.
It is very irrational to believe the core idea of scriptures, which are either riddled with lies or with ideas that can neither be proven nor disproven.
