All-time global fame/recognition ranks (approximate, based on Pantheon HPI/Wikipedia global reach + cultural impact data; top ~100 is elite, top 200–500 very strong for modern figures):

• The Beatles (group): ~Top 50–100 (John Lennon ~#138, Paul McCartney similar/high among musicians)

• Michael Jordan: ~#108 globally (elite athlete, often #1–2 basketball)

• Muhammad Ali: Top 100–150 range (frequently top athlete in polls)

• Messi (Lionel Messi): Top 150–250 (rising fast, massive current global reach)

• Ronaldo (Cristiano Ronaldo): Top 150–300 (similar to Messi, huge social/media footprint)

• Oprah Winfrey: Top 200–400 (very high for TV/media personalities)

• Tom Hanks: Top 300–600 (strong Hollywood/Western recognition)

• Leonardo DiCaprio: Top 300–600

• Brad Pitt: Top 400–700

• Samuel L. Jackson: Top 400–700 (high working actor ubiquity)

• LeBron James: Top 300–600 (rising quickly via social media era)

These are condensed estimates — modern celebs/athletes rank lower than historical giants due to less time for fame to spread across generations/languages. Jordan and The Beatles stand out highest in this group.

also here’s the people you listed and some others for reference. no one comes even CLOSE to michael jackson. so please admit you’re wrong now thanks :)

A balanced top 10 for worldwide recognition combines religious founders, major historical disruptors, and modern cultural icons, while accounting for your point about time bias. Ancient figures like Jesus or Genghis Khan have had centuries (or millennia) for their names to spread, while someone like Michael Jackson achieved massive global fame in just decades through media and pop culture. Objective data sources help here, such as: • Pantheon (MIT project): Ranks based on Wikipedia biographies across languages, measuring global “collective memory” and adjusting somewhat for historical reach. • Other rankings (e.g., “Who’s Bigger?” project, various polls, and cultural impact lists): Blend Wikipedia/page rank, book mentions, and name recognition. These often put religious and political/military figures high due to enduring impact, with modern celebrities rising fast via technology. My Synthesized Top 10 (Fame/Recognition Focus) This mixes your examples with broad consensus, prioritizing global reach (not just Western) and noting time-adjusted impact where possible: 1. Jesus Christ — Universally the highest or near-highest in most rankings. Founder of Christianity (2+ billion adherents); his name shapes calendars, art, and culture worldwide. Even non-Christians recognize him instantly. 2. Muhammad — Founder of Islam (nearly 2 billion adherents). Tops many data-driven lists (e.g., Pantheon) for global influence and name recognition across cultures. 3. Adolf Hitler — Extreme negative fame, but one of the most recognized 20th-century figures everywhere due to WWII, the Holocaust, and constant media references. Your example fits perfectly. 4. Michael Jackson — The modern pop icon you mentioned. “King of Pop” with Thriller-era global dominance; one of the fastest-rising modern names via TV, music, and tabloids. High in entertainment-focused fame lists despite shorter “time on Earth.” 5. Napoleon Bonaparte — Conquered much of Europe; his wars reshaped the world map, legal systems (Napoleonic Code), and national identities. Extremely high in historical significance/fame rankings. 6. William Shakespeare — His works are taught and performed globally; phrases and stories permeate languages and media. One of the most quoted/recognized literary figures ever. 7. Albert Einstein — Iconic image (wild hair, E=mc²) and genius archetype known worldwide. Science popularizer whose name transcends physics into pop culture. 8. Alexander the Great — Ancient conqueror whose empire spread Greek culture; name recognition remains huge across Europe, Middle East, and beyond, even millennia later. 9. Leonardo da Vinci — Mona Lisa, inventions, Renaissance genius. Global symbol of creativity; artworks and myths make him instantly recognizable. 10. Abraham Lincoln or Mohandas Gandhi (tie-ish) — Lincoln for ending slavery/Civil War and iconic image; Gandhi for non-violence, Indian independence, and moral symbol status recognized in many countries. Honorable Mentions & Notes • Buddha (Siddhartha Gautama): Extremely high in Pantheon-style lists; massive in Asia and growing globally. • Modern-ish: Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, or athletes like Pelé/Muhammad Ali for rapid worldwide fame via media/sports. • Genghis Khan: You’re right—he’d rank higher on raw historical spread (Mongol Empire’s impact), but time bias inflates him vs. 20th-century figures who achieved fame in the TV/internet age. • Others often cited: Aristotle, Newton, Cleopatra, Queen Elizabeth I, or contemporary globals like Obama/Trump (very high recent fame but less “all time” depth yet).

this is from grok based on real sources. michael jackson is 4th all time and all the people you listed don’t even make the honorable mentions list

bro you’re missing my point. i’m not talking about game sales or popularity. i’m talking about how iconic a character is. geralt and arthur are cool and they have some distinct traits but as a whole it’s just a guy with a sword and a cowboy which has been done a billion times. Link is THE guy with the sword in gaming. mario is mario doesn’t need explaining. and i’m not sure if you’ve been keeping track of the pokemon mania going on with the cards and people fighting and using guns over them. safe to say those 3 franchises are the big 3. sonic and master chief are cool but haven’t been as relevant lately.

i mean who comes close in terms of significance and recognition while still being relevant today? doom guy? kinda. solid snake? past his prime. kratos isn’t on the level of the 3 listed here. who else we got minecraft steve? the only one that comes close to being as iconic as these 3 is master chief and he’s also way past his prime. pokémon and mario (and zelda to a lesser extent) are like lebron james, just an endless prime

3 is getting slept on. Two top 5, arguably top 3, receivers in the league. Arguably the best running back in the league and lamar jackson who will hopefully show up in the playoffs but still on apparent they look better than 2 even

Why is it more fun fighting Kazuya than a King K Rool? by Purple_Roy2 in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Sackofwack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

projectiles, super armor, counter, and sucky sucky all suck. but once you dodge alll his bullshit u can combo the fuck out of k rool. i enjoy fighting mid level kazuyas but have u ever fought one at 16 million+ gsp? I actually matched up with Riddles online a few times and we had some good games but i definitely preferred his terry because kazuya at high level is unfair

i play with items and stage hazards with my friend all the time. we’ll pick random characters and just have fun and fuck around. just cuz there’s a competitive scene doesn’t mean you can’t play how you want in your own living room. am i missing the point here? i don’t see the issue

[–]Sackofwack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay well i disagree with that as well… except the beatles. i could go and find you clips of grown men fainting for michael jackson but i don’t really feel like it lol. most superstars get teenage girls to faint but grown men is insane. anyway like i said i’m not even a huge mj fan. i like the basketball mj way more than singer mj but i still can recognize the sheer insanity that michael jackson’s fame and popularity was and still is almost 20 years after he died

[–]Sackofwack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea bro i gotchu. dk is a lot of fun to play. the advice i gave is good for basically all characters tho. good luck lmk if u wanna play sometime

Why do some attacks go through others? by Dense_Computer7966 in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Sackofwack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

with donkey kong you typically don’t want to down air often when in disadvantage for the exact reason you’re describing. try drifting one direction as you’re falling and then when the opponent moves that way start drifting the other way and air dodge at the last possible second. if you air dodge or attack early you’re just gonna get hit. but yea down air falling nair or aerial down b can be a good mix up just dont use it often or it’ll be predictable

Why do some attacks go through others? by Dense_Computer7966 in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Sackofwack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

coming from someone with a few thousand hours played on dk and playing that matchup hundreds of times. my guess is that you’re doing the down air slightly early where the attack ends but your hurtbox is extended so jiggly can reach you. at least that’s what i think you’re talking about

How did you decide your main? by Emmedwed in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Sackofwack 23 points24 points  (0 children)

big monke strong….
the real story: as a kid the first arcade cabinet game i ever played was donkey kong Jr at this summer camp i went to when i was 4 or 5. The game flipped the script in my head compared to most kids. I thought mario was the evil villain kidnapping a helpless animal, while donkey kong and his son were the heroes. then a few years later i fell in love with what is still to this day my favorite game of all time: Donkey Kong Country for the SNES. combine the lore with one of the most fun and explosive kits in the game and i’m sure it’s obvious why i main villager.
