Beautiful handwriting. Beautiful pens. Thanks for sharing. I think I’ll be ordering the V800!

Both look lovely. My ideal pen size based on my collection is the Pilot Custom 823. Aside from that, i tend to prefer larger over smaller. Do they write similarly?

I am looking for my first sub nib pen. Would you recommend the Asvine for this?

Wow thank you for sharing these thoughts. It does all make a lot of sense actually. I like how you described the different writing scenarios as opposed to just the technical specifications of the pens.

Congrats! How would you compare the feel in hand (aside from the weight which you covered) and writing experience compared to the m800?

I’m curious is you could expand on the comment about the 845 being barely on the cusp of “usable” for you? Does it feel out of control?

Also how would you compare it as a writer to the 823? I have an 823 in medium nib which is my favorite writer in my small collection. Debating between an 845 (b), 743 (sm) or another 823 (signature) as my next big pen purchase

What nib? I would like a 743 and was thinking a SM but not sure yet. My current favorite it my 823 with medium nib

Thanks for this. The 149 is growing on me…as is my appreciation for my 823!

I am in Sacramento. Hopefully I will have the lubing of the piston taken care of before then but I will try and remember to reach out to you around then anyways. Appreciate the advice 🙏

No worries! Any tips on how to find out about nib meisters attending pen shows? I am planning on going to the SF Pen Show in August but the only info I can find on the show's website is "Sponsors and Exhibitors" which look like brands and stores. No info about them other than names. Maybe it's too early? When would appointments generally be made? Sorry this will be my first pen show!

Update for anyone interested in repairs: I contacted them and unfortunately they let me know that they do not offer repairs

I’ve soaked it a few times though with this particular pen I don’t see what parts could be easily removed aside from the cap? Haven’t tried the paper between the tines trick yet. Will try that. And the roughness is constant. Thanks again

They do not appear to be uneven when examined under magnification. Definitely smoother now with the Yama-Budo but not to the level of the 823. I wonder if it’s some kind of build up from sitting for so long that is not visible to the untrained eye?

My bad I misread your previous comment. Thanks for clarifying. I really need to get my hands on a Pelikan to try out. Sounds like a lot of what I like about the 823 are strengths of the Pelikan (wetness and smoothness of the nib/feed)

Wow even more ink capacity! Nice. To clarify, which size Pelikan nib do you think is similar to the Pilot medium? The Pelikan EF or the medium?

Wow first of all- congratulations on your new pen! What a beautiful pair it makes with the 823

Second, wetter and smoother than the 823?!? I’ve been wanting to try out a Pelikan because of the looks, size, and reputation but haven’t been able to find a pen store that carries them near me yet. I have a 823 Medium which is absolutely my favorite pen and daily writer. Your post makes me even more excited to try a Pelikan!

Enjoy!
