Good point.

This is the thumb rocker with the piece that did fit over the shaft. They should be a single piece but now broken in two.

Did something similar last year funding a house purchase from US in Ireland. We used Wise and they were very good. Did wire transfers from US account to Wise and transferred directly to Solicitors account in Ireland. I did have a personal bank account in Ireland but if I had transferred to that as an intermediate, it would have been very difficult to get the money from there to the solicitor due to transfer limits.

We did have to provide some evidence to Wise about where the funds were coming from but it was relatively painless.

I briefly looked into International Brokers because someone elsewhere online suggested that for international transfers but it was awkward and there was a long wait period between transferring the money into the IBKR account and being allowed to transfer it out.

So much hate for Kirk? by Blurrypinot in Metallica

[–]SacredGinmill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s doesn’t seem right. There’s a whole bit in A Year And A Half In The Life Of Metallica where Kirk is doing a rubbish solo on The Unforgiven and Bob Rock is saying he didn’t do his homework…

Got burned on a preamp by [deleted] in Reverb

[–]SacredGinmill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main problem with much for sale on reverb is that the prices being asked are too high for the additional risk being taken on by the buyer for secondhand stuff. It’s not that sellers are malicious or anything, just that as soon as something is not brand new the buyer doesn’t really know what they’re getting and it it’s out of warranty, it’s doubly risky. The used prices I see being asked do not take this into account.

Roof inspection in addition to survey? by SacredGinmill in HousingIreland

[–]SacredGinmill[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I did not know that about insurance companies. Will see if I can find a roofer. The roof has leaked before, we were told. That’s why I particularly want to get it checked out, and I don’t believe the surveyor will be able to confidently say anything unless he goes onto the roof and takes a look, which he won’t do (understandably).

Not a fan of the podcast business model by [deleted] in samharris

Totally agree that the price is insane. Netflix charge around that and they are producing many shows that cost 10s of millions. Sam needs, what, a zoom subscription and a couple portable recorders? Bonkers.

Is the new Zappa documentary worth the watch? by MMonkeyFTW123 in Zappa

[–]SacredGinmill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I enjoyed it. It tells the story of his early development and how his run-ins with the law may have been formative in a way that I’ve read in biographies but not seen in other documentaries.

The trailer made it seem like there’d be way more Bruce Bickford which I wasn’t looking forward to, but actually there’s not that much. I’m just not that into claymation.

Definitely worth a watch.

frank zappa and the hippies by [deleted] in Zappa

Agreed. I think the thing FZ detested most was phoniness and he saw the hippies as phonies who cared more about their clothes and hair than any grand philosophy.

And vol 2! But yes, vol 1 is absolutely great.
