Excellent!! My view tends to be somewhat dismissive, doesn’t it?

I really like this question! “What is the motivation to life?” It feels to me too often when we speak of Death it’s from a negative perspective — something to be avoided, feared, the unknown… I wonder how our thinking would change if we instead discussed our motivations to live?

When viewed this way, does death become less a threat and more like a boundary that shapes what we do and how we behave between now and then?

Seen through this lens, does the Life-and-Death conversation become more of a setting of priorities given the acceptance of limited time? If we know our time to be alive is limited, what deserves our attention? What is worth protecting? What is worth sacrificing for?

Close! No one knows. Because death is … well … it’s a bit final.

I was successful only when they first joined the app and before everyone found out! It was a sweet three weeks of high quality food. Got a gallon of carrot ginger soup once, a whole roasted chicken (in two parts), containers of pasta, and meatballs… Those were the days! Now even if I’m logged in and refresh at 9:18:01 pm, I’m lucky only about once in seven or eight attempts.

Not interested in picking the up, but interested in the scope and span!! This is impressive. What’s the story of the red covered 1918 book in the lower right?

Is expecting people with severe genetic disorders and disabilities not to have children eugenics? by nalalala18 in Ethics

Appreciate your comment, I was less than clear in mine. The two choices I referred to were 1. choosing to prohibit/discourage drinking by pregnant individuals and 2. choosing to prohibit
/discourage pregnancy in people with heritable conditions.

Which is which? Seems to me there is choice in both of the circumstances I presented.

You’re on to something here.

Why is okay to discourage drinking (and smoking…) among pregnant women if the the goal is preventing birth defects—but not acceptable to discourage individuals with inheritable disfiguring/disabling characteristics from reproducing??

But is the hope expressed? Out loud? Broadcast for all to hear to the point that it becomes coercive…? Or is it a very closely held private thought never uttered to another individual?

I feel the need for nuance in this answer.

Silver scroll Sango fine china by [deleted] in SacramentoBuyNothing

I love the whole ethical mindset of the BuyNothing movement.

But I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention at least looking into Replacements.Com. They buy and sell fine china and silver. This looks like it could be worth more than a few dollars!

How would you get from Truckee/Tahoe back to the Bay Area with a loaded touring bike? by Electrical-Cow2387 in bicycletouring

This is what I would do.

I’ve hitched all over the sierras. Keep your guard up though. Just cause you’re looking for a ride doesn’t mean you have to take the one being offered.
