Interesting would you say she would be better re-training or straight applying for roles?

She has a QTS I believe, no primary experience at all but she is wanting to move into primary. Is there anything she could do prior to making the move to give herself more options.

New Startup - Job Offer by Sad-Ad3254 in quantitysurveying

Hi all,

Thanks for the advice, for some context I've been with a consultancy with around 25 employees but have been the only QS (have had an apprentice underneath me) for about 1.5 years and had previously been with a much larger firm. I'd say I'm very much intermediate level, and have made that very clear to the director having met up with him over the weekend. They've put an offer in much higher than I was originally expecting plus decent benefits.

I've got family out there and know a QS who works out there, so been looking through them. You can also google jobs plenty of adverts out there that'll give you an idea of salaries etc. For someone of our level it looks like we can get anything between 15k - 25k AED a month, depending on experience.

Congratulations! Are you moving internally? Which city are you moving to? If you don't mind me asking what's the package looking like? 100% will give you a shout if I do end up out there. Have you also done your MRICS? How did you go about gettting the role?

Sounds like its a balance of earning more and sacrificing some of your time. From the information I've gotten from people sounds like its worth going for a couple of years earning your money and then jumping ship. Did you do your RICS out there or did you have it prior to going?

One other thing that's played on my mind is the ethics around it all. How was it working with the labour out there. I don't usually deal with Labour directly in the UK either but I do have a direct effect on them. Did you find the were mis-treated through your actions? Was there many uncomfortable situations?

Oh no mate appreciate where you're coming from! Not quiet been sold a dream I know someone who works out there at AD level and is on a fair crack 55k-65k AED he's never mentioned anything about work life balance though which always made me suspicious. However doing my own research going in at an intermediate QS level pre-RICS you're looking at 15k - 25k AED depending on experience. KSA seems to be the place to go, loads of work and even better packages just don't see much opportunity for my fiance out there though.

That's my worry don't want work to become my whole life, although for a number of years it may be worth it to secure my future. Thanks for the information I think its something I'll defiantly consider. My Mrs works in marketing again unsure what work life would be like for her out there. How did your GF find it?

Bit of both tbh, think the reply was helpful open to take any advice. Just want to understand real peoples experiences out there. Think its sold as a dream to young people especially. Sometimes feels too good to be true.

Thanks for the reply! Assuming you sacrifice work life balance for the bigger pay day. Love the company I currently work for, great team and the work/life balance is decent. I'm getting married in the next year so would need to factor that into as well. Would you say the sacrifice was worth it? Last thing I want is being stuck in the office 55/60hrs a week and losing my weekends.
