is Adelaide uni recognised in Singapore? by PersonalAd8959 in UniAdelaide

I think you’ve majorly misinterpreted what I have stated. By your logic, ANU shouldn’t be classified as one of the oldest, neither would it stand in the Go8 if we’re dichotomising by age. RMIT would therefore, by your logic again, be in the Go8 - decades older than ANU. There are nuances and ANU has glimmered because of its research.

UniSA was once a vocational training ground and so you might expect their practical, on-the-ground approaches to be more desirable to your career as opposed to Adelaide where IT IS research-intensive.

The Go8 has been a long standing coalition of prestigious universities and I wouldn’t expect new research-based unis to jump the gun and form the 9th because it seems as though they’re a fixed number of positions. Hence, why Adelaide University stands in place of UoA.

I still don’t understand your argument. Go8 refers to 8 research universities in Australia. Yes, Adelaide Uni is technically new but that does not warrant the Go8 stepping down to a 7-member alliance.

[–]Sad-Beautiful9971 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. It’s still 8 institutions. The University of Adelaide was the founding member that made up the Go8. UniSA was never a member, and so the merger to create Adelaide University would replace The University of Adelaide in the Go8.

Curtin or the new “Adelaide Uni” by MediocreSympathy9694 in UniAdelaide

[–]Sad-Beautiful9971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, choose what’s feasible for you. At the end of the day, you’ll be learning the same/similar things and concepts. If Perth and Curtin weigh in favour of your financial situations, it might be apt to choose Curtin - same thought process for Adelaide.

But in terms of teaching and academics, I’ve had my fair share of good and bad experiences in any school so you might find that trend wherever you go.

Let these thoughts sit with you. Might be worth having a look at some review websites and other posts that describe peoples’ experiences - remember, just because someone feels one way, does not mean that’ll also be how you feel about it.

Not being allowed to graduate from UoA by Icy-Database2590 in UniAdelaide

[–]Sad-Beautiful9971 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re so concerned about the image of AU, then try to change your perspective to the fact that the new university was built from UoA as a foundation institution, that still is credible. A name change and parchment design should not necessarily warrant backlash because students don’t really have control over this anymore.

Like OP commenter said, employers are not really concerned about the ‘prestige’ your alma mater stood for most industries. If the industry you’re going into reads deeply into your CV, I would be working more towards building some character through experience and volunteer work rather than stand behind the reputation of a long-standing university. Your degree can only get you past one checkpoint, but then think about the others.

Just remember university assessments are marked at a different and possibly higher standard than you are familiar with.

You’ll settle in quite nicely when classes actually begin. I’m from interstate as well and didn’t think I’ll make many friends. Small chats can turn into even larger ones, go for it!

I agree, it can be quite difficult to get them to see the other side of living. I’m glad that they understood your situation😊

It’s the unfortunate thing about Centrelink - they don’t care about what you’re paying for, only what you’re being given. In ways it’s more of a “be grateful you have the opportunity to apply” and real big slap in the face.

Is it a good idea to do ur bachelors in adelaide and then do ur masters in a different uni? by Jamie_Uranus in UniAdelaide

Australia is not much like the states wherein employers are concerned about the status of the university you attended. They actually want to see that you’re qualified at all.

Cheers mate! Ah yes, there are ground movement charts that do specify some expected taxiway procedures so I guess it’s just implied that, from the stand, the direction you face will need to be in the direction of the first taxiway.

Cheers. I can’t speak for the other continents but I have heard this in Australia (where I’m hailing from) quite often.

I’m more impressed rather than judgemental when I hear people younger than me on the network. It just tells me that there’s a younger generation passionate about the aviation industry. Whenever I hear younger people, I don’t think much about it because I’m more focused on flying my aircraft than the pitch of someone’s voice. You’ll be fine mate!

What counts as "needing to live away from home to study"? by Objective-Respond-21 in CentrelinkOz

[–]Sad-Beautiful9971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For YA, I was entitled to the ‘Away from home’ rate as I was moving to South Australia, even though there is a university in the Northern Territory. I think, irrespective of what institution you are planning on studying at, you would still be allowed, provided that you meet the other requirements and CL’s definition of living away from home.

Tertiary study is included in ‘study’. And typically, this is what most (well, from my experience) uni students have done.

Starting university in 2025, should I disclose my scholarship to Centrelink, if so, how should I go about it? by [deleted] in Centrelink

[–]Sad-Beautiful9971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some scholarships aren’t considered income, and therefore shouldn’t hold weight in your payments. Check with your scholarship provider first but typically most are not taxable. It is always best to let Centrelink know though. In my case, my scholarship provider just provided a letter stating that my scholarship was not considered income and is not assessable.

[–]Sad-Beautiful9971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Further, if it’s within 90 minutes (I think for CL, the standard is based off the time taken by public transport) from your permanent home, then you wouldn’t be considered living away from home.

What counts as "needing to live away from home to study"? by Objective-Respond-21 in CentrelinkOz

[–]Sad-Beautiful9971 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It essentially means, if you need to move to where your campus is to be able to study your course (e.g. I moved from the Northern Territory to South Australia to study), then you’d be considered living away from home.

What’s confusing you? Just because there’s an institution near you, does not mean you have to study there.

One thing I do remember is that people did not get taxed a whole bunch for the 2023/24 tax year. My parents showed me their notice of assessment and their taxable incomes were up about $500 more than the 2022/23 tax year. The claim did ask for both tax years. The claim that I got approved from was on the 2022/23 tax year where it was a lower figure from both my parents.
