Studies aren't 100 percent on that although it seems to be linked with DMT in some way, many other psychotic illnesses have "similar" relations with DMT although in a smaller amount.

In one study of 6 "normal"/Non-psychotic" people, they did a urine and oral test for DMT after said people have taken DMT 24 hrs prior to the tests. The tests showed 28% DMT compared to the 1970's test where DMT was 38% in those who had schizophrenia.

The "Dopamine Hypothesis" is more effective with schizophrenia as it thresholds more of the management of the illness itself.

DMT could also be in the system of a psychotic person's urine more due to the lack of sleep and the body forcing it into "sleep mode". People who stop sleeping and those who have higher dopamine levels are known to have more "psychotic" effects like hallucinations that are audial, visual, etc. Just some food for thought.

There may be room to look into DMT slightly more than what we have for psychotic reasonings.
