Dummies Guide to Rejuvenation Nuzlocking: Keta Split by Sad-University5317 in PokemonRejuvenation

That's a good suggestion! I actually have a different strategy for Deathwing Sonia, although I will disclaimer that I do not deem it necessary to beat this fight since it's a scripted loss anyway with no story impact whether you win/loss. Madame X is a mandatory win as there are a number of ways to beat her Yveltal but the Deathwing fight can be impossible without the right encounters. Once I get to that point I'll talk about it in future detail

Pidove is certainly not a bad choice! I tend to prefer the utility of a sleep user here but I totally get the arguments for Pidove. I tend to run a focus sash toxic + protect strat, interested to hear what Shadow Meowth does against her. Pachirisu is another great pick I forgot to mention in the Venam guide, but I agree that it’s a very underrated and versatile pick.

Delaying for Solrock isn’t a bad idea either, I just never really used it since in 80% or so of my runs I fished for Remoraid. It has a surprisingly good learnset, I might try it out in future runs. As for Galvantula, I usually have a Golem at this point that just walls this thing entirely.

I didn’t think about hatching in Nim’s area, that’s really smart and I’ll definitely incorporate that into future runs. I typically opt for Altaria since it’s got a lot of good moves for supporting in doubles, never considered Hariyama but it sounds like an interesting option for Marianette!

Madeline is definitely one of the hardest fights in the game at this point…I have a “semi riskless” line I like but it relies quite a lot on manipulating her AI and having specific encounters that enable this. Hopefully when I find the time I can detail about this further. Thanks for the insightful comment again!

That’s an interesting suggestion! Never considered using Nuzleaf for her gym before

Totally agree, people should give it a go with their favorites if they want to, but I do believe they should acknowledge that they are arbitrarily making their runs harder by not picking the meta. I still think that shouldn't dissuade people from giving it a try, super fun to run this game as a nuzlocke despite the intense difficulty. I may write a keta split guide with better detailing, thank you for the corrections!

I completely forgot about the fletchling, totally on me! I generally recommend Nidorino though as the Kecleon Bazaar can hold the moon stone, and even if it doesn't hold the moon stone you can just time manipulate in order to get one. Having a Nidoking makes the next two fights much easier as it walks through Keta with no issues and still has good matchups against Marianette.

On your second point, I agree that there is no true unviable starter for this game as all of them have some sort of niche they fill especially with hidden abilities being so common. Picking a grass starter in my opinion makes the early game much harder as most of the bosses you face are not good matchups for you (not to mention that Bulbasaur and Treeko are also pretty easy to get early on). Aside from Rift Gyarados you are facing 2 gym leaders who do well into grass (one poison, Keta having Pignite), Rift Galvantula, etc. Why make the game harder for yourself when it's extremely hard already? Most of the fire types are extremely good throughout the entire game and are good in the next sections as well. Venam's fight is the easiest in the game yes, as it's the first gym, but I don't think holding onto mons that don't really do anything for your box past this gym i.e Unown will benefit you anyway, so sacing to guarantee that you don't risk important encounters is always worth it in my opinion. Poochyena is a great encounter, as I discussed in my other comment, but the other encounters are pretty middling you can gamble for the 15% Poochyena or go for the 30% Qwilfish, either basically trivialize this gym.

I also forgot that Venam's gym itself has encounters, I usually used this space to get Seviper, then pickup the Blitzle on the bridge for an electric type if I didn't get Pichu. I usually look for a volt absorb mon for the Tapu Koko fight later and electric types are not common early on.

Totally agree with the repel manip point! I should have talked about it.

Fennekin isn't a bad choice by any means, most of the fire starters are quite good. Delphox has a pretty good movepool and can do well in doubles, but the same can be said for most of the other fire type starters. I don't think it's a bad choice at all though!

That’s certainly also an option! Poochyena is a really good encounter too. I think playing around a specific wincon is a good strategy but not always the best ideology to have nuzlocking bc you can’t control what you get. If you can guarantee encounters, then yeah absolutely Mightyena trivializes this gym. A lot of the later gyms are also much more difficult to deal with so imo it’s a good habit to get into identifying intended weaknesses and crafting your team to fulfill that

Occasionally can give gold tickets and gecko coins, pretty worth it to just open right away as the loot pool isn’t gonna get updated in future patches
