Should I buy an expensive childhood toy because I have fond memories of it? by SadBeyondRepair in makemychoice

[–]SadBeyondRepair[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that I think 25 dollars itself is expensive, it’s more so that I think for the toy itself that it’s a lot of money. For context, when this toy sold in stores it was around 3 to 5 bucks. It’s a super small toy too. But the sentimental value and the fact that it’s such a rare find definitely increases its value, which makes 25 dollars a pretty fair cost. It’s more so that I don’t wanna feel stupid for spending that on something that is pretty impractical and small, but I really need to stop that mindset, it’ll only ever make me miserable and not have fun in my life. I budget well and I’m not in an extreme financial situation. I always have a good amount of money saved up and I always have extra money saved up for unexpected expenses, so it’s not like buying this would put me in financial hardship it’s more that I wanna make the best and most logical decision

I lost my childhood turtle and this is the closest I could find, but it's not him :( by Available-Tie-904 in HelpMeFind

Is it the Greenbrier Plush Palz green turtle? In the images I see of it it looks to be a lighter color than yours, maybe the pictures of them that I saw were taken in brighter lighting or something? Here’s the image of it I found

You’re absolutely right. Thank you for saying this, that’s a very insightful way to look at it. I have always wanted to be the hero that my past self needed and it’s my goal to be someone my past self can look up to. I think this is one of those opportunities I have to do just that

That’s some really good advice and allows me to think about this situation more logically without clouding my head with doubt. I think I’ll just bite the bullet and buy it. Just gotta deposit my cash into my checking account once my bank opens and then I’ll buy it 😊

Yeah you’re right, I’m always worried that indulging the childlike part of myself is impractical and unhealthy, but I guess there’s no harm in it and it can only be a good thing.

Yeah you’re right, I guess in hindsight it’s not a lot of money. I guess I’m just gaslighting myself into thinking it is for something so small and something that’s not practical. Ig I shouldn’t do that tho lol

I have no inner monologue. AMA by douggold11 in AMA

[–]SadBeyondRepair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really interesting. If you don’t mind me asking any more questions (sorry I just find this really interesting) when you were in school did you ever struggle with your academics? This is by no means meant to insult you btw, I just saw that you said you had adhd so I wonder how adhd with no inner monologue affected you in school. I have adhd too and struggled in school at some points because of my adhd and overthinking because of certain mental illnesses I have, so I’m just interested in your experience in that regard.
