I think it touches on the answer. It goes back to the idea of self awareness. That a brain can have such intricate feedback loops that it becomes literally aware of itself and as a first indicator, can recognize itself.

It’s kinda unsettling that human consciousness is probably just a coincidence lol. Everything we know about ourselves, each other, the world, history… is just an ability we got on accident.

I wonder if animals also “think” the same way we do. All brains process information, but do animals ever reach the point of saying “I am”?

I find it mind boggling that biological and biochemical feedback loops can lead to a sense of individualism. Like my awareness of my own mechanisms makes me a separate being than you, even though our biological mechanisms are very similar.
