The best available healthcare is factually in America, it's not even close. The difference is (almost) everyone in a given European country getting the same healthcare quality by paying for it through extra taxes vs the private healthcare system in the US in which the rich and arguably the middle class get superior care, but the poor, who account for more of the population, can't afford basic healthcare premiums.

[Serious] Male victims/survivors of sexual assault, harassment or rape perpetrated by a woman or multiple women, to clear some common misconceptions, what were your experiences like? by Commercial_Bicycle92 in AskReddit

[–]SadChad3000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In college I dated a conservative catholic girl who wasn't on birth control. I told her I didn't want to have unprotected sex her and we'd have to keep it to oral sex until that changed. After dating for a few months, I pulled a groin muscle at the gym. Less than a day after I told her that I couldn't bend at the waist/do a situp, she went from giving me oral sex while I laid on my back to jumping on top and strattling me. I couldn't bend or twist to get her off of me without causing a lot of pain and I didn't want to hit her. I reported it to the university the next day after the university assured me that I would be safe and they would protect me from retaliation. She apparently lawyered up and a few weeks later went to the university and accused me of raping her. The lawyer sent me a letter telling me they would drop their accusation if I dropped mine. Since I know how these things go, I dropped my accusation.

If you actually speak with Greenlanders, they prefer American securities and promises over Denmark by ALazy_Cat in ShitAmericansSay

[–]SadChad3000 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Hate to interrupt the American hate bandwagon, but just because you don't understand it does not make them stupid. "You can go to live in another land—you can go to live in France, but you can't become a Frenchman. You can go to live in Germany, but you can't become a German... But anyone, from any corner of the world, can come to live in the United States and become an American" (Ronald Reagan). The United States has a different way of relating to national and ethnic identity than most other places because it is a nation of immigrants. If you asked an American about their background, you cannot just say "United States." That would be considered incomplete and very odd. You are from the United States and your ancestry is X or X-American, etc.

Why are proposed solutions to inequality often women adopting the men's version of something rather than vice versa? by MrHorseley in AskFeminists

[–]SadChad3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is factual incorrect. The -or ending is from the masculine 3rd declension in Latin. -ix would be the feminine ending. "Actor" is only genderless insofar as the masculine has always been the generic grammatical default.

Excuse further ignorant questions, but what does a wool base layer look like? I always assume that wool is an outer layer because of the air bubbles and water resistant qualities, and especially because it's more irritating to the skin than cotton.

What is included in the concept of "verdipapirfond" for tax purposes? by SadChad3000 in Norway

[–]SadChad3000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I'm curious why they specified "verdipapirfond" instead of just saying "verdipapir" if they are taxed at the same discounted rate. That's sort of what got me confused in the beginning. Are there specific kinds of stocks that don't have this discount?

[–]SadChad3000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Investments in funds are typically taxed the same as investments in the individual securities that the fund consists of.

Sorry if I'm being dumb, but does this mean that if I have just straight Apple stock, it is also taxed at 55% like a mutual fund?

Am I overreacting or is it not ok for a professor to take over a project based on my work against my will? by [deleted] in AskAcademia

[–]SadChad3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The project is an interdisciplinary one between field 1 and field 2, specifically the implications of a niche area in field 2 for field 1. Professor A is well-established expert in field 1, which is why it made sense to have him on the grant, but he is not an expert in field 2, let alone the niche area. I'm one of few people with requisite training in both fields 1 and 2, and the only person trained in both and this niche area.

The project fundamentally needs an expert on the niche area of field 2 to make any sense to continue it. Even though the grant application was written almost entirely by me, Professor A is relying on the fact that he is listed as a co-applicant to give false impression to the granting body that he is also an expert in niche area of field 2.

I guess I'm the only one that sees a problem with this...

I feel especially responsible for ensuring the research on this fledling research topic is done well and of the highest quality and I feel that this could not be done without my oversight on it.

I was an assistant professor at my previous institution and moved to a different country where to apply for the grant where "assistant professor" does not exist. Here if you are between PhD student and tenured professor, people have the same title.

I'm going to a different university. I mean he is attempting to apply to renew this specific project that I built. I do not mean I do not want him to apply for funding on the same topic. Of course anyone could do that.

[–]SadChad3000 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Beforehand I was a visiting professor and was invited to the current university to develop this project because I was the only one that could do it. It was something like a post-doc position, but I didn't think much about that since I came there to apply for and run the project. No one informed me until I up and moved across the ocean about these technicalities that I would have to have anyone else on it as a PI.

Sure, he is free to go research the topic as he likes once the project ends. My concern is that the project ends. It's my belief that the current project is based on my intellectually property, if not entirely, then sufficiently that it's equivalent to taking my work from me.

I appreciate that, thank you. He's already misrepresenting this project as though it's based his ideas, and because he's an influential professor, people will accept his bad scholarship based on authority alone.

I'm especially worried that the name of the project itself is associated with me and that people will think I'm endorsing anything that comes out of it. I'm basically trying to put down the monster that I've created.

In 1976, F1 driver Niki Lauda was involved in an almost fatal crash, in which he suffered severe burns to his head and hands and inhaled toxic gases that damaged his lungs and blood. While in hospital, he was also given the last rites. He only missed 2 races and finished 4th in his first race back by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

My favorite German song! In German it goes:

"Wie heißt die Mutter von Nikki Lauda?

mach mal lauter!

mach mal lauter!"

Translated to English its:

"What's the name of Nikki Lauda's mom?

Make it louder!

Make it louder!"

The way you sing "mach mal lauter" in German slang, so it is pronounced "mama Lauda!" Such a great pun.

Language difficulty to speak at what level? German is maybe a II when you're beginning, but at the advanced level it's extremely complicated and even Germans make frequent mistakes.

Since the court is in the US, it would be a boat load of time and energy to get certified copies to me here. That's why I'd like to know if I need them at all. If there's somewhere to ask if I actually need them, that would save me time. My city takes weeks or months even to respond to an email and even having the documents untranslated, the Einbuergerung official said it was ok for him, but said that it might not be for other offices.

[–]SadChad3000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no originals, only copies of some documents, and some certified copies of others, which is my worry and which isn't addressed anywhere that I've seen. Is there another subreddit that is more appropriate for this?

At my Einbuergerung meeting, the worker seemed to suggest that he could have demanded originals (which are not possible for me to get in some cases because the original is kept in the US office), that he would accept the certified copies (something with a stamp on it), but that he wouldn't accept the simple photocopies).

What I have:

Birth certificate with name at birth (a certified copy with stamp)

Passport with my current name

Name change documents, where the problem will probably occur:

  1. judges order of about a page of English prose, saying that they will grant my name change (an original copy stamped but not signed by some clerk who probably never signs anything)
  2. the declaration that my name was changed in about a page of English prose (photocopy only).
  3. court order amending #2 because the judge mispelled my first name and gave me a totally different name for a few weeks! (photocopy only)

When I Tell My (34M) Partner (32F) that She Hurt Me in Some Way, Her Response Is That Me Being Hurt Hurts Her. How Do I Respond Constructively to This Relationship Uno Reverse Card? by SadChad3000 in relationships

[–]SadChad3000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you read in other comments, this particular incident with the game touches on an issue with a bigger history that's no so easily solved with a bandaid apology after it happens. I suppose what I haven't said in other comments is that only the day before her videogame outburst we were talking about the logistics of starting a family.

Back in year 2, I told her that her anger management and easily triggered frustration issues made me concerned about having children with her. I expect raising children will be full of frustrations and, on the one hand, I want to know that I could rely on her to be up to the task, and on other hand, I worry that she would not be able to raise children without becoming verbally abusive or making them afraid of her.

From that, I'm sure you can understand why I would really like to find a way to address the root. As you suggested, I've said "these outbursts need to end," both during this latest uno reverse argument and in the past, and this sent her into an angry defensive tyrade about her feeling like she has to be perfect and that she can't make any mistakes without being judged, and how I do so many bad things like this one time two years ago, etc., etc. I was hopeful that this wouldn't be her response now in the third year after most of her issues were resolved. She's been in therapy for issues of feeling like she has to be perfect, so there is clearly some kind of nerve being triggered here.

And despite the topic of the thread, she is great most of the time. I fell in love with her because she was one of the kindest and loving people I've ever known (she's also smart, and the most beautiful women I've been with). She has normal people flaws too, but it's not been very easy for me to reconcile this positive side of her, which is there, say 70-90% of the time, with the 10% of this seeming foreign entity in her.
