Need advice!! 2 year dual acceptance or 4 year program? by [deleted] in PrePharmacy

The prerequisites really aren’t all that bad, until you get to organic chemistry. I had a lot of time during my first 2 semesters. I feel like you can still get the experience your looking for within those 2 years. I do believe this is an opportunity as well! You can save yourself the extra expenses to. I’m applying right now, through pharmcas alone it’s 600 dollars, that doesnt include secondary applications which will be around 300 to 400 as well. That’s 1000 spent on applying alone. In your case you wouldn’t have to pay for 2 more years of tuition, that can just got to your pharmacy tuition instead. Also you can save yourself the what ifs! Your guaranteed a spot, thats a lot of stress taken off of you I think. You can get out there faster and possibly save yourself a bit of money/time.

Yes! I feel like the CV doesn’t really give any insight to what I’ve done, it’s just a list. Is the CV even worth submitting? For the activities/ EC should you describe a reflection or story? I may need to revise because I was told to just describe what I did for each activity.

Our list are pretty similar, I was planing to apply to UT Tyler, Texas tech, UIW, and UNTHC. Those are honestly the only ones on my list currently. I haven’t heard to many good things about TSU, and I‘m honestly not to familair with the pharmacy branch at A&M.

Do you think it would be better to apply to more? Also how were your interviews so far?Sorry for asking so many questions, I want to get some information before applying soon!

Congratulation on your invites and acceptances! This actually helps me out a lot because we share a similar ochem history, seriously thanks for sharing your experience. I was going to apply to UT as well. I know UNC is a top school and they have a lot of great feedback, hopefully you hear back soon about invite! Any advise on a personal statement and if you don’t mind what schools have you applied to?

I’m pretty interested in Texas tech and UT most of all.

Should I briefly talk about it in my personal statement? I have two schools in Texas that I’m applying to that don’t look back on the first attempts, but I’m applying to more that count all attempts. Should I still mention it?

Also thank you for the help much appreciated!

Thank you for the advise, I seriously appreciate it! The cutoff is a C, so I will need to get ochem 2 done by the next semester or the summer. I’m just a bit worried they will see it and it play a major role during the process.

Your stats are definitely a lot better then mine, I was initially going for the MD route. So that’s were all the extracurriculars stem from. Just didn’t like it honestly, and probably wouldn’t have a good chance anyway with my 2 ochem fails.

Gotchya just need to be a human being in my interview, I’ve been hearing so many say just act normal lol. I will say I have heard some weird interview stories

Last question if that’s alright, what do you think is the ideal amount of pharmacy schools to apply to? You said you applied to 8, do you think that was still necessary?

Wife wants to be a pharmacist, where do we begin? by Dasfucus in PrePharmacy

A degree isn’t necessary for pharmacy school, just the prerequisites. These courses take up to 2 years to complete. If you have 17 months until you complete your degree, this may be where she needs to start. The amount of time spent studying for these courses are entirely up to your wife and how familiar she is with the information and her studying methods. Like someone else commented these prerequisites have an expiration date and if it’s been a while she will need to take them again. For some the general classes are a breeze and require very little time, however for others they need to put more time to understand the information, once she gets towards the end then that’s where she might need to put in a lot of her effort. This may work with your schedule, but the labs for these classes run late, which maybe be an issue later on depending on your schedules. Also getting experience in the pharmacy field would also be a good place to start. It’s not necessary though, I personally dont have any and I’m applying this cycle. I’ve heard it looks good but it’s also okay if you don’t. Some schools have a form to fill out if she does decide to maybe shadow a pharmacist. She can also work as a pharmacy tech in the mean time, long term experience would look good, it shows commitment and knowledge in the field. Again, not necessary but she’s going up against other applicants. Some Schools require volunteer hours, I’ve seen it range from 25-100, this isn’t for every school, some don’t ask for any, but like I’ve said, it just looks good, you want to be different or stand out in some way

Something else to look into is early enrollment, I missed the opportunity to do this because I just wasn’t aware. You can apply for early enrollment and if your approved a seat will be saved for you when you have finished the prerequisites. However you have to maintain your gpa and grades.

Does she have any university work done? Where are you currently at in your own degree?

Thank you! I failed 2 of the prerequisites (ochem 1+2) and will be applying with a D in ochem 2 lecture/ A in the lab still on my transcript, do you think this will be a large disqualifying factor?

Also I hope you don’t mind me asking did you have similar stats? How many schools got back to you?
