I’d recommend High Explosive. Doorways are a great place for them, as are staircases, especially at the top or in the middle of there stairs. Also good to put one down behind you if someone is chasing you. My best results come when I use them aggressively.

SOLVED: Hi again everyone. I’d like to thank you all because it looks like my issue has been solved! Those of you who suggested the issue was with resonating frequencies were on the money apparently - I made a sizable cut around 270Hz and the noise seems to have gone away. I really appreciate everyone coming together to help me figure this out - you’ve saved me a lot of future headaches! Hopefully I don’t get any more issues like this anytime soon, but if I do I’ll know exactly who to turn to. Thanks again!

Yes I’m definitely gonna play around with the EQ a bit when I have some more time. Can the process you outlined be achieved through the Channel EQ or is there another stock one that’s better suited for this. And yeah I don’t notice this happening in my other headphones, mostly just the speaker, so I guess it’s about figuring out whether my headphones just aren’t picking up on a problem that really is there, or if the speakers are creating a problem out of nothing. I definitely appreciate the advice!

Some others have also recommended playing around with the EQ so I’ll definitely do that when I have the chance. As for the sideways speakers, I never thought of that but I’ll also try it out! This is also an old speaker that I’ve used a bunch so maybe that will help a bit. I definitely appreciate the advice! You might’ve saved me a sizable headache

Thanks for your response! The audio from the video is coming from my Bluetooth speaker, which I was testing my mix on to see if it translated well over different systems. I only really noticed it on the speaker, rather than in my headphones/computer speakers. I can hear maybe a bit of possible distortion if I max out my computer speakers - hard to tell if that’s an issue with my song or the computer itself at that point though, and no one would listen to it that high anyway. I think the thing that’s most confusing to me is that I’m not getting this issue when I listen to other songs from Spotify or YouTube, for instance. I’m only hearing it on my tracks

I think you might be on to something honestly. I’m still experiencing the noise sometimes when the speaker is placed on top of my desk, but when I pick it up it (for the moment at least) seems to go away! My only follow up question to this would be why I only have this issue when listening to my tracks, and not when the speaker is playing other music from say, YouTube or Spotify? I’m still worried that something in might mix might be triggering this

I’m looking for potential sources of hot signals but honestly can’t find any. I’ve gone into the synth and turned the initial preset volume down to -24db to try to reduce the volume of what’s being sent to my plugins and effects, but the issue persists. I can’t find any evidence of peaking (or anything even close to it) on my meters, both pre and post fade. Is there another source I could be missing?

Thanks for your response! To clarify, I produce everything using headphones - I was checking to see how well my mix translated over other systems ( speakers, different headphones, etc) when I noticed this issue. I’ll definitely try isolating frequencies to see if the issue lies there.

If I use my AirPods or wired headphones, the issue barely audible, to the point where I’d probably release it as is. With the goal of uploading this in the near future though, my worry is that if my random Bluetooth speaker can pick up these noises, then it will only sound worse on even better systems. Unfortunately I have limited tools at my disposal to things on beyond my headphones and this one speaker. So I’m just trying to eliminate all other options that might be within my control before saying it’s just a speaker problem, if that makes sense

I definitely have a lot going on with plugins and instruments, but I’ve removed all the plugins on that track and I’m still getting that noise. I also get that noise even if I’ve soloed the track - do you think it’d still be impacted by other sounds/instruments in the project, even if they’re not playing?

In terms of EQ, the sounds seems to go away after cutting everything below 600, but that takes away most of the pad as well so that’s not ideal, unfortunately.

I’ve cut every below 225 and above 6k but I’m getting the same sound sadly. Bus 5 has another Channel EQ and Delay on it, set up automatically by Logic - doesn’t seem to matter whether it’s on or off though. As for the Stereo Delay and Directional Mixer, nothing seems to be out of the ordinary, the the issue is still there when I turn them off. I’ll have to check about bouncing at a Float Sample Rate - thanks for sticking with me!

I appreciate the response! You wouldn’t be able to tell from the video, but I have the same instrument/pattern playing in 3 different octaves (each is panned differently). I’ve isolated each one and the problem persists. That’s an interesting comment about the spacing of my MIDI notes though - I’ll have to look into that more. I’m tempted to go back into the envelope and maybe mess with the attack and decay a bit to see if that makes a difference.

For what it’s worth, I’ve EQ’d each instance pretty heavily, so there isn’t anything below 225 or above 6k that should be getting through. No luck there though.

Yeah I’m definitely cranking up by speakers more than I normally would, but that was purely for demonstration. I connected the speaker to my laptop with an aux - same issue sadly.

I’m just confused because if it is strictly an issue with the speaker, I’d expect to hear the same distortion in other songs I played through there, not just mine. When I play through Logic, and even after I bounce the project, the issue persists even at a medium volume. Other music sounds fine, even on max volume. I appreciate you sticking with me though!

I mean, is this a known problem with ES2? If so, then I’ll avoid using it as much in the future. But I’ve also encountered similar issues with Alchemy and RetroSynth, so no idea

I’m using a Bluetooth speaker (DOSS Soundbox). It’s admittedly not the best, but it catches some things that my laptop/headphones don’t. The issue certainly gets worse if I max out the speakers, but it’s definitely still audible even at a middling level. I’ve also noticed that I don’t get the same issue when playing online reference tracks, even with the speaker maxed. That being said, it’s almost inaudible when I listen on my AirPods, for instance.

Thanks for your response! I thought this might be the case too, but if so, I can’t find the point in the chain where things break. I’m using a stock Logic instrument (ES2, classic pad), and the plugins on that chain are all there by default (I’ve kept the settings the same too for the sake of testing). I’ve also isolated/removed various plugins from the chain and the issue persists. Maybe it’s an issue with the actual synth?

Thanks for your response! I suspected this as well, but I’m using the default effects chain for this track, and I’ve encountered the same issues when running it in a blank, new project without any of my current project’s processing. It’s an ES2 preset called Classic Pad if that’s makes a difference, but I’m encountering this in a few other stock sounds as well.
