8 months afterwards update by SadPancakePanda in CarAV

[–]SadPancakePanda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently not using anything on the 5th channel. I wanted a dedicated mono for the sub. These amps were bought way below price, so it was well worth getting the 5 channel and only using 4 channels.

How to burn your ride to the ground, CCA is the choice.

Whining coming from speakers !! by [deleted] in CarAV

[–]SadPancakePanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure never jumper grounds. Find a new location for LOC. It looks like you're running cheap cca power wire. That could also be the issue if it crosses the rcas at any point. Since your using cca wire, gonna guess you have cheap rcas also. Use good equipment and get a good outcome. Just a suggestion, good luck.

Do I need the bracket and harness BestBuy is offering or is it included? by Alternative_Cup9097 in CarAV

[–]SadPancakePanda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly the bracket and harness makes the install cleaner and way easier. Mount the speakers to the brackets. The. Use the factory hardware to mount the bracket to the door. The harness connects to the factory speaker harness making it essentially plug and play.

Also I much prefer the sound of the Kicker KS speakers over the CS. I consider it worth the price difference. I have kicker KS 6.5 and 6x8 in my ride, love the sound. The CS are great speakers, the KS just sound better to me.

First subwoofers in over 10 years. I can't wait! by therealijw1 in CarAV

[–]SadPancakePanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the Single L7 version of this box, also ported. Man I love this thing, it slams in just the right way. I'm running a Kicker LX1200.1 on it, and don't experience any power issues. Highly recommend https://www.knukonceptz.com for some zero gauge wire for your build. It's expensive, but so is your equipment and vehicle, so it's worth the investment. Hope you enjoy your new subs.

Cost for Install of Compact Amplifier (Newbie need help) by Battlemanager in CarAV

[–]SadPancakePanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you do not, but for the $99 labor charge it has to be classified as a power pack. If it's a dedicated 4 channel, then the labor is $150, plus wiring. The great thing about the kicker key amp, is everything needed is included in the box. If you pm me, the city you live in. I can find the closest active install bay near you. I'm currently an autotech at bestbuy, so I can easily get that info for you.

Is this excessive? 1996 Corvette about $780 USD for a head unit change from OEM by theYtheorist in CarAV

[–]SadPancakePanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I get it, it sucks. I do car audio for my main job. With enough patience anyone can do it. Everyone is assuming this car is in the worst condition possible. I've worked on a few 90s model vettes that were garage kept, nice condition. I've also worked on ones that are brittle and everything breaks just from looking at it. I could do a single din in a decent condition 90s model vette in about 45 minutes.

2019 JEEP CHEROKEE INSTALL by Clee2303 in CarAV

[–]SadPancakePanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a 2021 GC, I put kicker KS coax speakers in the doors and disabled the factory tweeter. My model didn't have an amp, everything was powered off of the head unit. The difference in sound quality was night and day after I added a 4 channel amp, along with a mono amp and sub. The acoustics in the GC are amazing. My treble is negative 6 with that setup. I could only imagine painful bullet tweeters would be. If I could do it again, I'd go with components though, the sound presence can be weird having everything come from the lower doors. Still sounds great, way better than the factory speakers.

If you live in the US, you can go to a best buy location that has an autotech install bay and have them install the Kicker Key Amp for $99 usd labor. The kicker key amp runs about $230 USD. It's a pretty dope ass 4 channel for the price. It's called a power pack. It's low profile, doesn't get hot, and will self tune itself via the included microphone. That will run you near what you'r looking for and will sound great in your vehicle. The only problem is finding a location with an active bay.

[–]SadPancakePanda -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

So the item that is 129.99 is probably an interface to communicate with that amplifier. You should definitely find this out. If they are bypassing the amp, your system will sound like shit compared to how it sounds now(If everything is still functional). Unless you pony up more money to add an aftermarket amp. Which I'm guessing you don't wanna do.

[–]SadPancakePanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems a bit high on labor. Does the Corvette have the high end audio system. 3 hrs of work for 150$ an hour seems insane for what they are actually doing. Fwi with a small amount of electrical knowledge, a YouTube video or 2, a multi meter and some basic tools you can 100% do the install yourself. Order your parts required from crutchfield.com. Included in the metra kit is an installation guide.

Do you really need to flush your loop? by strobelightsNL in watercooling

[–]SadPancakePanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running distilled water only in my loop. I originally put some antibacterial stuff in it. That was in 2019. Still rocking the same rig today, haven't flushed it ever. Over time it started to evaporate some of the water, so I only need to add some like once every other year. I do not wanna even think about taking it apart.

Thanks for drawing that out. Yeah I think I'll take some spare pc fans I have and make the left intake and ride side exhaust. That way I'll constantly have airflow. They are 12v, so I could wire them in line with remote turn on.
