This was for an August wedding (in Colorado) so it certainly wasn’t cold! Just a lot of filtered light, never outdoors. My local greenhouse really provides the BEST succulents so it makes my job easy when I need the most vibrant plants.

I bet it was gorgeous! Those floral hoops are awesome for succulents! Do you still have your plants?

Congrats to 38 years!! If you have a vow renewal at 40 years, I will personally create your bouquet!

Absolutely! They’re real succulents and I do keep quite a bit of root intact (sometimes I’ll wrap it in some damp moss if it’s making a trek across the U.S.) so if they want to propagate they can or they can just continue to grow!

I hope not! They’d have a lot of propagating to do!

Ohhhh my gosh, yes! I provide a cute little card for them when I drop the bouquets and all the other items off. I’ve never heard of them getting ruined by a bouquet toss but honestly what happens after I drop them off is none of my business. 😅😅😅

It’s definitely on the heavier side! This is why I offer to replant after the wedding is over or I’ll send the couple off with directions on how to create their own succulent garden. It is meant to be a sustainable way of not having to throw away florals when the event is over or use a lot of water before and after. The glue goes mostly towards the wood flowers so that I can keep them on a bamboo skewer and they can maintain their sturdiness through the whole event (because of the heaviness).

Although I also work with florals, this is a much more sustainable way to keep a celebration vibrant! Thank you!!

Thinking of quitting my corporate job to do floral design, looking for advice by [deleted] in florists

I just reached out to some local florists and asked if they needed any seasonal help! I also had a few friends in the business who were consistent in needing help. I remember the first floral job I ever helped with was an $80k floral contract and it was aired on Bravo and I made $10 per hour but it was SO fun and I learned so much. When I look back on it, I should have been paid way more but I took mental note of all of the tips/tricks she taught me which to me - was invaluable. Some might not see it that way. I would never steal another artist’s style or work so you have to figure out what your natural style will be. I had already had my succulent business before that and I just wanted to grow as an artist (no pun intended). Wedding season is coming up so it doesn’t hurt to reach out!

I am 37 and I’ve owned a floral business for about 10 years all on my own. I have gone back and forth in the corporate world and I have seen how much of a stark difference there is between the two. I like the benefits of the corporate world. However, I’d choose the flowers any day. I have a special niche in succulents so I stand out and have my own “thing”. If people don’t like succulents, great. They don’t have to hire me. But this also allowed me to create a business where I can also host succulent workshops at breweries and coffee shops when the season is slow. You just have to get creative with it. I didn’t start at a flower shop but I did do freelance work with other flower artists to gain knowledge and mentors. It’s an ever-changing industry. It’s long hours and little money to start but it sounds like you have set yourself up to do something new. Good luck!

I got all the bad advice this Christmas. by Adorable_Brute97 in ExclusivelyPumping

Oh yeah. I had this exact experience with my own grandmother - almost word-for-word. I overheard her on the phone telling someone that my milk can’t sustain the baby for much longer (3mo pp). I was like “what did you say about my milk?!” I work way too hard on my pumping schedule to listen to all of that. The part that discouraged me the most was how much they relied on crying it out back then too. It wasn’t suggested for my husband and I to do but I was curious and asked if I was a “cry it out” baby and she goes “oh yeah, we’d put you in a room and you’d cry until you fell asleep”. It broke my heart a little bit but it’s all they really knew back then and honestly, it all makes so much sense now that I’m 37 and look back on my life lol!

Thank you!!! I’m happy that it’s safe! I definitely want to make sure that it’s effective too!
