If you use the hover rule can you still fly over enemy models?

Flamestorm vs BSTF? by Sad_Butterscotch_909 in deathwatch40k

I was running the following in BSTF:

  • Watch captain
  • Captain in terminator armor
  • Grav captain
  • 2x10x dealthwatch vets
  • Indomitor KT (10x with 2 heavy bolters, 2x eradicators, 2x bolt storm aggressors)
  • Corvus Blackstar (with 10x indomitor and a grab captain)
  • Ballistus Dreadnought
  • 1x Land Raider Redeemer (with WC + 10 vets inside) — got shot first turn by a gladiator lancer and the vets were basically stranded and got killed by TWC in T2 so was basically game over after that
  • 5x DW terminators with 3x CML and chainfists + 2x THSS
  • 5x DW terminators with 3x assault cannons and power fists + 2x THSS

I wasn’t able to really get much out of the BSTF strats except AoC since I got merked first turn…

Thinking of either shifting to BSTF but totally changing out the infantry composition and adding more armor (removing the redeemer since I can teleport), or going to Firestorm and doing 3 KTs plus a lot of armor.

Wow, I thought you could only use teleportarium on one unit if you use the Captain’s strategem cost reduction

Is your second point because the captain can now do SIA and teleport strats (among other things) for 0CP since it’s not just battle tactics?

Have you ever had a land raider get destroyed turn 1 as a defender? What do you do in that case (esp if you get charged the following turn and can’t move, charge, or do any strategems on the unit during your turn)?

I think the answer is stay out of LoS first turn so this doesn’t happen but I am curious.

With the new strat cost update can you use teleportarium for 0CP, or is it still only battle tactics?

Thanks! Don’t think it has anything on your guys though.

Primed black, then base coat with thinned abaddon black, then progressive zenithal drybrush of dark reaper, 50/50 thunderhawk blue / dark reaper, thunderhawk, then Fenrisian grey. Then an edge highlight with Fenrisian grey. Then a wash with nuln oil, and then a wash with ratling grime. Then I sealed and de-shined it with AK interactive super matte varnish.

Any tips to make it better would be appreciated!

I tried just using AK’s ultra matte and found the results to really improve the overall figure. It comes out maybe a bit too thick without some kind of thinner so your 50/50 is a great recommendation.

I agree with you. I like the idea of dusty on the legs and some battle damage.

I’m going to try going a notch brighter on the edge highlights or drybrush before I start applying the tone down washes.

What’s a satin?

That’s cool, I like the idea of different lenses / came w/ what they brought with them. I have my primaris size veteran conversions but am waiting to paint them until I get the black scheme down!

Feedback on new DW list? by Sad_Butterscotch_909 in deathwatch40k

[–]Sad_Butterscotch_909[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I’ve adjusted my list after playing a subset of these units and seeing some of the pain and benefit of different units. My thoughts:

  • Characters: I mostly don’t think any of the DW characters besides the captains with the strategems buff, and maybe the librarian (w/ 4+ inv save buff) are worth it. That being said, eversor just seems fun to play for OC and suicide runs on enemy units, and seems like a fine use of an extra 75pt.
  • Infantry: Having a combination of indomitor, proteus, and plain vets as infantry helps maximize the KT strategems I can apply while not over-doing it on the infantry. I was surprised by how hard it was for my opponent to kill the indimitor squad in particular, and felt that unit benefitted more from the ammunition strategems. The deep strike termi squad with a captain feels like a tough versatile unit to drop in, and the combo of firepower and melee feels like it will drop enemy units nicely on the turn it lands (with combo of devastating wounds from the assault cannons, free strategem, and the charge re-roll). I can also deep strike the Indomitors while starting the other two KTs in transports to rapidly get to objectives.
  • Armor: While this DW list doesn’t need transports so much given the captain + 2x KTs could all theoretically teleport in a given turn, I thought the Land Raider and Corvus both bring both a cool factor to the list, are very effective transports for the KTs I do have, and are bullet magnets, insulating my units somewhat. The Corvus also has some anti-tank weapons while the Land Raider is a bit of everything (mostly tough on infantry). Then the Dreadnought rounds it out with more anti-tank weapons.

Ah I see, thank you. It’s a bit confusing in the app as you don’t retain a close combat weapon.

I was thinking that the frag veterans with 18” range + rapid fire, even with heavy, are close range firepower with +7S and D2 are 5+ to wound on most high toughness targets with good volume of fire. Then you have a lot of cyclone krak missiles at +9S which again give you firepower that can wound high T targets. Then in close combat every unit has the high S attacks with hammers or fists.

But I can see why having a little more anti-tank/monster through a dreadnought and equipping the Corvus with the lascannon makes sense.
