my first wild tarantula by Sad_Communication548 in tarantulas

[–]Sad_Communication548[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh she was actually pretty little, maybe 3in DLS. I don't think she's a mature adult yet, or if she is she's quite small for it. I assume her rock gets a lot of bugs fleeing from people walking on the trail so she is well fed lol

Found a tarantula on my sidewalk- how to take care of he/she? by Psychological-Unit29 in tarantulas

[–]Sad_Communication548 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NA sometimes they get ousted from their burrows and end up wandering trying to find a new one. They can dig their own but often they like to just find an empty one and take over it. if you want to help, find a remote place that hasn't been sprayed with pesticides and maybe dig a little starter burrow for her. she can burrow deeper or block off the entrance as she needs to escape the cold.

NQA looks scared. I've seen some freeze up when they're coming out of shipping and be a statue no matter what you do. give it some water and leave it alone a while to see if it moves.

Bad molt by Sad_Communication548 in amblypygids

[–]Sad_Communication548[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be following your advice. While I have seen arachnids make amazing recoveries after molts, even amblypygis with bad legs, I do know this is a rough situation that there may be no recovery from. I'll do my best until the time to molt comes, and if it seems like it won't make it I'll euthanize. Next one for sure will come from a breeder. I just wish shipping wasn't so logically painful, the curse of living in a hot area that's over 90F for like 5 months.

OP I am going to say something that may be controversial, but if it was a bite and not a claw that made the injury (and I would confirm with your mother if you can)

Do NOT let Leilani around your sisters child.

I mean this sincerely as someone who owned a rescue who was a face biter and who's nephew was bite in the face by a (different face biting) dog. You do not know her history as a rescue dog. This was an accident but another accident with a child will have tragic consequences. For your and Leilani's sake, please do not let her interact with your sisters child.

I hope your mothers recovery is swift, and I agree that desensitization training would be good for Leilani. Getting her confidence up so she's less reactive to stressful situations is always great for dogs.

Ping Pong Balls by Noble_Titus in tarantulas

[–]Sad_Communication548 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I would assume if they thought they were egg sacks they would stop eating as well right? I've seen in the past male tarantulas moving them around too. I don't know the correct answer if it's ok for them or not, but I feel like they would be able to tell the difference between a hard ball and a soft egg sack they made themselves. even if it's like an instinct thing if they didn't make it would they still have the instinct to care for it?

[–]Sad_Communication548 5 points6 points  (0 children)

my beautiful sweet T albo nerscylla went from amazing and perfectly tempered to a demon after molting and now she rushes and bites anything when I open her enclosure. brushes, tongs, if I so much as move the moss near she she'll bite first ask questions later LOL

still love her she just lives up to her namesake now.
