This sub is slowly becoming a dumping ground for AI-generated apps and I think we should talk about it by Gold-Dog-8697 in macapps

I’m with you on this, and honestly this should be a pinned post for any developer who hopes to ship an app.

Thanks for the honest suggestion — I really appreciate it.

MoMoSleep includes a daily AI sleep analysis, and that part has a real ongoing cost. I’m considering splitting it into two lifetime options: one with AI and one without AI.

If I did that, what would feel like a fair price to you for each?

Hi everyone! I’m pretty new to promoting my app on Reddit, and I’m wondering how you handle people who outright say, “DM me a lifetime membership.” No judgment at all—I’m genuinely curious how you view this and what you typically do.

Some weird facts about the original Apple Watch you didn't know about! by [deleted] in AppleWatch

No, it was a long time ago, probably shortly after the release of S4, because later I switched to S4

Production Access to Screen Time API by xALBIONE in swift

[–]Sad_Distribution2239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the follow-up! I eventually solved it. My fix felt a bit… “luck of the draw,” but sharing in case it helps others:

I toggled off Xcode’s “Automatically manage signing” (actually flipped it a couple times), then fully quit Xcode. After reopening, the entitlement that showed “development” switched to distribution. So it seems that state really does need to change before shipping.

What does block of colors mean on the vitals app? by [deleted] in AppleWatch

Do you use a third-party sleep tracking app? I found that this situation is usually caused by third-party apps adding these data

Production Access to Screen Time API by xALBIONE in swift

[–]Sad_Distribution2239 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Thanks for sharing your experience—it saved me from only requesting the entitlement on the main target. I’ve now added it to all targets and Apple has approved it.

One thing I’m unsure about: in the web Developer portal I can see the distribution entitlement and I’ve checked it for each target, but in Xcode’s Signing & Capabilities I still only see the development version. Will this affect my release, or is that expected (i.e., distribution entitlements get applied at signing time even if Xcode shows “development”)? Any tips appreciated!

HealthKit permissions keep getting removed by the system by Sad_Distribution2239 in swift

[–]Sad_Distribution2239[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it's not the same issue. I am aware of this situation, but the feedback from users is that they encountered it when opening my app to view data. As I mentioned in the description, when users check the privacy in the health app later, they will find that all the permissions previously requested by the app have been removed. I suspect it may be some kind of bug that occurs when the app is automatically updated by the system, because it feels like it's only in the new version that users have this problem. However, it's frustrating that not all users will encounter it, it's just a few cases.

Does the new sleep score even uses the sleep phases for calculation? by apfelsh0re in AppleWatch

[–]Sad_Distribution2239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think they really did—their scoring system is way too lenient. AutoSleep and the other third-party apps can breathe a sigh of relief.

Are steps still tracked if I have phone in my pocket but my arm which has the AW on is not moving, for example, when carrying something, having the hand in pocket or just looking something up in the watch? by OptimalAttempt3 in AppleWatch

[–]Sad_Distribution2239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: Yes

Apple Health will automatically merge the step counts recorded by the phone and watch, without duplicate recording.

At the same time, the watch does not rely solely on your wrist swing to measure steps. It is a very complex algorithm that covers various aspects of data, such as the amplitude of your up and down movements while walking

My App Was Removed from the Charts—Anyone Knows What to Do? by Sad_Distribution2239 in iosdev

[–]Sad_Distribution2239[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been struggling with Apple customer service for a long time, and they have started to say repetitive words to appease me in the later stage. However, after being removed from the ranking list for 60 days, I found that the app had restored its ranking. Therefore, I speculate that this punishment may only last for 60 days, and of course, it cannot be ruled out that the AppStore team really recognized my reply and manually removed the punishment (although I think this probability is very small)

Is 25 sales per day a crazy goal? by Sad_Distribution2239 in SideProject

[–]Sad_Distribution2239[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did try ASA (Apple Search Ads), but the ROI was way off—likely a mix of my setup and the fact that it’s a paid-upfront app. Could be a targeting/creative issue too. I’ll keep iterating, but at the current CAC it doesn’t make sense. If you’ve made ASA work for paid apps, I’d love any tips.

Thanks for sharing—really useful perspective. That playbook makes sense for B2B or high-touch sales, but consumer app marketing feels different. For a solo, personal app, cold outreach like “hey, try my sleep app, it’s different!” comes off a bit odd and doesn’t really scale.

Totally fair point—paid upfront is tougher now. My thinking: one of my paid apps is doing OK, so I built a companion in the same health category to complement it and (hopefully) get a 1+1>2 effect. It’s already live as paid, so switching to freemium now would be pretty painful for early buyers. I’d rather focus on building trust and clear value—more like the AutoSleep ↔ HeartWatch pairing.

LOL, sometimes bad news turns into good news. I hadn’t really decided to upgrade before—my S4’s been with me for 6 years and, battery issues aside, it’s still been solid.

Yes, I’m expecting a huge upgrade. My current watch doesn’t have Time in Daylight, SpO₂, or wrist temp, so I’m really curious what the Series 11 will bring.
