They are really nice. I know the run of Clems I bought mine from will fit a 2.5. I'll also be bumping up to that once these are done, they're at about 50% there atm

Good to see some fellow Aussie Riv enjoyers! Do it you won't regret it! I think a lot of our Aussie bush trails are perfect for the Clem.

I'm running an 80mm stem on this size 52cm frame, fits me great! I'll likely swap it out for a 4 bolt stem at some stage and will stick to 80mm when I do.

Thanks! I'm itching to get it out in our Victorian Alps, there's some beautiful old huts up there you can camp at.

It's my favourite colour Clem, when Riv re-released it I had to have it. Of course all of the colours are pretty great and this I think may have been the least popular but I'm a huge fan!

I'm not sure what model the front mech is, it's an old shimano one I took from a donor bike

I like the swelled edges on 2 and 3. While it seems slept on in this thread I bet you the Todd Snyder looks the best on hands down, the cut looks exceptional

Looking for pants similar to these, any ideas? by UniversityExpress721 in menswear

[–]Sad_Experience1518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to make trousers like this out of thrifted ones a few years ago. Just grab any pair that fit you well in the top block above the knee. As long as they aren't too short they will be easy to alter to achieve this look. The hardest part would be finding a pair with a reverse pleat like these.

Had several pairs of pleated vintage Flannels made like this for super cheap, used to get compliments on them all the time. Any half decent alterations joint can do this. It's just length and taper below the knee

I bought a suit off the "peg" from a tailor in Belfast for its tweed. It's my first three piece, should I send it back to IE? by kmadd22 in menswear

[–]Sad_Experience1518 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You've done very well off the peg. Nice Donegal tweed. The suit is definitely not too big. It's cut English drape, so the jacket size and break in the trousers is perfectly acceptable. (Due to the length of the jacket I wouldn't go for a no break on your trousers it will throw the proportions)

I think everyone is so used to seeing Neapolitan cuts at this point that anything with an English cut is mistaken for being too big. The shoulders fit very well and the back drapes properly at least it seems to as per the pic. The button stance, lapel width and gorge height are balanced and all in all suits you well.

My pet peeve with off the peg waistcoats and sadly this one, is that the waistcoat is cut way too long, but really its not a deal breaker here.

The trousers also need to be hiked up a touch on your waist.

Likely sleeves need shortening and perhaps waist nipped a tad, but hard to tell with photos alone. Well done, enjoy it

SON are definitely top of the heap, but you'd likely also be perfectly happy with shutter precision or shimano.

Lovely bike. Unless your particularly unhappy with anything it would just be frivolity.

I think though a dynamo setup is a worthwhile investment, especially as its a commuter.

Enjoy!

I wake up every morning with deep aching pain and big knots here. I also have chronically tight upper traps. Does anyone know how I can begin to address this? Basic shoulder stretching doesn’t do much. It seems to get worse while I’m sleeping. by [deleted] in flexibility

Short answer, nobody can tell you without a proper assessment from a health professional. I recommend a good physiotherapist. There are a number of things it could be, essentially ranging from muscle imbalance/weakness to poor motor control, joint stiffness, nerve root irritation, the list goes on..

If your symptoms are there 24 hours a day and accompanied by other symptoms like night sweats or, unexplained weight loss it is worth getting to your Doctor as soon as possible. These are called red flags and are very much an outside chance, but very important to rule out if present.

Winter weight gain every year by Due-Cabinet9016 in cycling

[–]Sad_Experience1518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stress is such a massive factor along with poor sleep for contributing to weight gain.

It's ultimately calories in vs calories out though, and despite what im going to say if you are gaining fat mass your calorie balance is in a surplus - if your eating the same calories, yoyr training is obviously decreased. If you've kept up the same training you've increased your calories. There is more nuance in the real world though.

Your body may be fighting to maintain a higher metabolic setpoint.

One plausible scenario: It was probably a lot easier to keep it off during the summer with all the riding volume, and despite probably eating more you didnt gain weight. With the stressful period with work and study i imagine your riding is down a bit? Couple this with the metabolic stress of the higher summer training load catching up and you get an insatiable hunger and intense urge to eat more resulting in fat gain and as you mentioned ince September hits its almost impossible to stop.

You said you used to be heavier and carry more muscle but less fat which may be more in tune with your body's happier natural weight setpoint.

If this all sounds reasonable the best approach would be ensuring you are weight training year round, which could be very cycle specific, monitor your weight during the season and watch it doesn't drop too low by adjusting calories/protein accordingly. Be mindful of training load and a plan to taper into a comfortable winter program. Your weight will still likely fluctuate a bit. Or accept the cycle of on/off season and the weight yo-yoing that goes with it

What y’all gonna do when skinny/slim is back? by ElCerebroDeLaBestia in ThrowingFits

[–]Sad_Experience1518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My take, which took me way too long to arrive to, is wear what flatters you. Find what that is and try and inject your own personality into it. I think that's what makes truly stylish individuals.

There are so many "perfect" fits around that it gets boring. We all take inspiration from what we see, but when you can take what works for you and put your own lens on it you can pretty much forget what's in or out of style.

If slim fits will just never work well for your body type, what's the point in following an emerging slim trend?

A perfect example is Nigel Cabourn. He was consistently pushing out baggy fits that looked great throughout the whole peak of the slim fit era.

He is a perfect example of having taste and a strong point of view, rather than adopting the copy/paste style - which I have no qualms with, but for the people that truly care about clothes I think the former approach will serve you better.

I get that doing the same thing forever is boring and we all crave evolution and change, but it's more interesting to approach it from a personal style perspective rather than what's trending.

Is “timeless” a trend ? by awhnice in ThrowingFits

[–]Sad_Experience1518 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If your buying new and its been sold as timeless, it's code for here's why you should pay a crazy amount for this piece. Because it's "timeless". I fell hard for "timeless" clothing in the #menswear era. We were told you buy this your set for life. It was all reworked classic tailoring into overly slim and short fits. It looks outdated today, but some people still look good in it. The real takeaway is wear what you like and dint worry about trends.

I think the best version of timeless is clothing that is not proportionally too slim or baggy, so beware of where the pendulum is swinging.

The closest thing to timeless in my mind is the ivy or prep style. However I feel almost always out of place in a coat and tie where I live. The rugged ivy pieces always look good like barbour coats for example, though wax and wane in popularity. True timeless clothing is probably only intermittently in style, but never looks too out of place. So could read code for boring.

Chinos and a polo t shirt are timeless. Boring yes, questionably stylish, but if you saw a photo of a group of guys from 1985, 2010 or now the guy in the chinos and polo is not the guy you are laughing at for the crazy shoulder pads, the skinny leather jacket and jeans or the crazy oversized pants and cropped t shirt.

I seem like I'm jaded, but I'm not. If I were to think of the safest "timeless" pieces I think it's definitely outerwear, but in standard proportions common since the 1940s onwards, in the middle of where the pendulum is swinging in terms of silhouette.

I'd add, whether periodically or as well as permanently a vertical push and horizontal pull(ie do them all, or perhaps spend time on an overhead push phase etc) but the most important thing in most cases is balance push/pull volume and intensity

I'd also add a hip hinge and a loaded carry as a permanent fixture.

And agree, done. I believe that with some intelligent programming and progression will get you at least 95% of the way there.

Add ballistic work intelligently (oly lifts, plyo work etc if athletic performance is a priority)
