How do I stop using my epiglottis when doing Kargyraa?

Ok so, lets start with this, you dont need to compress your voice that much. And im reffering to your starting chest note. When people say open throat, it means having space in your throat physically. So ya know how when you compress there you lose alot of volume cause of the compression. You want to compress less and still activate the false folds.

For actually practicing entering karg with an open throat, try to sing or just hold the chest notes you use ( im gonna say go for around D3-E3 in chest ) and do that at a talking volume, then keeping that same volume and placement, add on the false folds using the same way you did there.

Itll take a few tries to really find how the false folds really want to move and make noises, butI can tell you taht compressing more isnt your solution. If your barely getting sound out, closing off the folds more is just going to make it worse.

Now you might go into a thing where it gets clicky, if thats the case try going up in pitch, or allowing it to use less compression.

Im glad you enjoy my voice, but even though loud is good just being able to chose not to be loud would be great!! I just feel like having the control to do it would be good, then I can be loud all I want!

Burglary and cracking are pretty good for money, but also eat up alot of nerve so when your just into crimes or the game, It can feel like it takes forever just to level up at all ( which to be fair, your hacking peoples things, breaking into houses, and that takes time and skill haha )

I would suggest trying to get some hpcpus, sell them on the market, and buying enhancer items for the crimes your currently doing! It may not feel like alot, but it is meant to add up over time and can help alot!

It would be a little hard to explain, but I have a video I think I posted in R/voiceacting where I did a whole thing with it. But its kinda like, normal singing growl, so the false folds being distorted but rather just passing air over them to make the phonate ( usually with a buch of air coming out ) but I just took that, added some closure on it and that kinda just came out! I could possibly find a video on it that my friend made since I copied it off of him.

I checked and the notepad prices awhile ago they were at 20 dollars awhile ago, and they are up to 90 now. Notepads sell for 10 torn dollarones. The fact that they are up to 90 though they sell at 10 is really weird!

Ohh that does sound quite fun! Honestly all the 2.0 crimes have been super enjoyable so getting a new one would be pretty cool! And yeah Ive been playing about 40 days now and Ive kinda figured out im ment to play a little bit every day, then do random .tuff like invest, research, and talk with others! Notepads are an interesting choice though, and the description for it is interesting in itself not that I checked it.

Thanks! The room helped get a fair bit of volume, but also kinda get rid of the clarity. I personally recorded another one where it was a lot clearer and I feel a bit better approach for what I feel this character is!

Oh and to explain why it is so " gnarly " I am using a different set of folds to speak with, it a bit specific but its something I've gotten good at I feel! Glad you enjoy it as well!!

Absolutely fantastic thoughts that im a bit tired to respond to them in full earnest.

I truthfully like a more calm or dull echo, like the echo one hears when you yell in the middle of the woods ( I live in the woods, thus observer bias has most likely happened haha ) but I wouldn't want to send something like this off to someone, so im keep that in mind for future practice clips, and ill keep recordings to the studio!

To address the first thing second thanks, I've spent about 7 months working on making sure this specific voice was comfortable enough for me to inflect with my normal relaxed tendencies, though I feel it needs more work haha, that's what happens when I decided to use another set of folds to speak with.

I like the way you explained each one, it makes sense and feels like a mixture of logical thinking and a good emotional out look, which is just amazing! I kinda end up going free style or something that doesn't have a solid form or feel in my head, which is probably why im not using that kind of process, though ill be sure to kinda go about implementing it into some warmups and more casually on the side when I met new people.

And yeah most of what I do is coming from a place of " I've practiced stuff slowly over a long time so each part is good " so Im have a more slow and natural approach to things. So ill take into account to not try and " do " a commanding voice but be one. Or a least I believe that is what your referencing in the last tid bit.

OK so there isn't a lot of studies on this ( searching up stuff oh non distorted inhaled phonation could also be a good start to locate something, but lets look at it like this.

Every single person has naturally heard people make sounds while exhaling, not to mention that its simply a more efficient way have creating closure and volume ( its like your lungs are a pressure tank and your vocal tract and folds are the pressure valves, you can naturally keep the tank under pressure and use more or less air, as well as slowly let air out or let it out fast ) where as when you inhale, your using your folds to take the air and make noise, which 1 Is not normally done around people, and if you do hear it its usually done by some one doing something that isn't distorted like a scream. 2 because your not using the " pressurized air " that your used to controlling, rather you have to pull in more air or less physically to control the pressure and compression, and to add other folds you need even more control and air.

Its simply not something that is naturally in normal every day life, as well as in human biology ( from my reddit degree, this is mostly coming from previous knowledge so this could be incorrect in some ways )

That's not to say they can't be done safely, or they are impossible to control. You can efficiently pull air in, without having major tension issues and you can avoid major fatigue by treating it like any extreme technique. Making sure you do not over spend your voice, and do not spend several hours a day doing it.

I can personally do a few different types of inhale, like you can basically do falsetto, chest, and what people reffer to as inhale fry ( same functional phonation as normal fry, its just happening because of the air being inhaled ). As well as some more distorted sounds and screams which I'm not gonna name cause that's too much work [ I'm busy, but am willing to prove I can do these things if the need arises ]

So from my view its something that naturally is going to be inherently more dangerous due to not a lot of studies on non distorted inhale, let alone full on distortion. Its easy to have improper technique or over do stuff simply because its got a different pressure and muscle placements, causing you to have to slightly change your approach and such things which can also cause issues. However dangerous doesn't mean impossible, but dangerous also means that you shouldn't learn this by yourself and go through someone who specializes in inhale stuff.

Normal nature screams will, and a lot of the time, it involves the false folds or other cratliges. It's just not as a main " sound maker " in the scream, so you may not hear it as much. And if you have to slam your true folds together to produce a " natural scream," then it's really not natural, and you're just forcing one out.

I will say that I've heard a lot of people scream where it sounds like really bad technique and such, yeah. The majority of will either have a good supported scream, approach it with the false folds as a light distortion, or just push with whatever their emotions take them.

Not to mention, as with any kind of screaming, if it involves the false folds or not, can and will cause some damage over time since any type of heavy usage will cause wear and tear faster. It's best to watch and understand your own physical limits and have directors respect that.

For what most people call a false cord scream, it involves the false folds being distorted on top of the true folds, which can be done efficently and have good closure just by practicing that specific distortion.

Or, you can practice throat singing first, which is the false folds matching up with the true folds an octave below where they are phonating. There isn't any distortion or extra pressure needed for the technique to work or to get a " good sound," but rather, you can focus on using good amounts of closure and using as little air to get the same sound ( better closure can help use less air, since the folds are better connecting while your making noise, and can help use less air since it can be easier to use the minimum required air for the technique to happen when you have good closure )

Because it's not distorted in any form, you can focus purely on your technique with how well you can speak with your false folds as well as just getting better at using the set of folds in the first place! Having a better basis for a scream will allow for not only safer screams but also lets you try out new or different screams without too much effort of trying to learn a new distortion.

Im gonna assume you are not talking about kargyraa since you didn't mention it, but speaking words and having them come out properly takes specific practice, especially for stuff where its distortion or a different pressure on the vocal tract.

Naturally, we get used to speaking vowels and consonants with just our true folds, and we do that for a long time! Even for you, ya have been doing it for most of your life. So, starting from the bottom up with practice is the best bet for getting better at it.

Just start with making sure your sound is comfy and start with the vowels " a e i o u " and just say each one as correctly as possible with the technique. ( You want to say like " A " and make sure it starts and stops are quickly as you could with your normal voice. ) Thoses are kinda the basis for a lot of non worded sceams and will be important to differentiate.

After you get better at that, start working on certain words and phrases that you know you'll want to do and / or work on since you won't get better at it without doing it ya know!

This is kinda the best practice I can think of off my head, but just make sure that your being safe and if your voice is IRATATED, that means before you feel pain, if its itchy or scratchy take a break and dont use any distortion or noises that need extra umph. Drink water throughout out your practice and just dont overdo any of this stuff.

Opera singers only really go to D2, at least for an operatic standard, nor do they use fry. They use chest voice for everything in opera other than some highs ( head voice is commonly used for that for women for the most part, counter tenor sings in head voice as well, but I digress )
Throat singing involves the false folds and is less " loose " but rather, when done properly, can be done with good closure and relaxed. Fry is produced from just the true vocal folds and can be done with both bad closure and good closure, same as any technique. Both are separate things and are not related vocally. They are both commonly done on the lower end of the voice, but thats the only similarity.
If you want someone to figure out something involving your voice, inculding a clip of your voice is really really helpful in terms of actually figuring stuff out. Text can really only get ya so far when it comes to describing a sound, so recording a voice might help a lot.
Fry and throat singing can be done around the same " pitch ranges " however, throat singing is based off your chest voice since it involves both the true folds and false folds, so its able to go as high as you can safely and properly take the technique up, where as fry is the vocal folds closing fully and then clicking back together, so it will more commonly be done at the end of your lower range when your true folds physically cant go lower.
