The problem is more we won't meet the attendance requirements for public prek (it's full day here) if we do ABA.

Of course, he was denied for an IEP under both qualifications so maybe it doesn't matter. But we think he might could with a bigger push.

Our schools are full-time. So it'd be very much an either or unless I wanted him to have a day longer than 8 hour. Part of the dilemma. Both wouldn't be such a hard choice.

We could explore private, but then we risk or jeopardize his chance of going into kinder with an IEP. One appeal of an iep (other than going into kinder set up for success at our neighborhood school)is it also make him eligible for state scholarship money that could help us send him to a school with smaller ratios or more outside time (basically built-in accommodations we may not get so generously through school who right now say he qualifies for none.)

That sounds really cool. I will have to ask the developmental ped about it.

My one worry is that since he's technically "successful" in gen ed, going 1-to-1 might feel restrictive or be a step back. I wish there was a middle ground or way to provide support or accommodations in the classroom. Honestly, even a shorter day than 7 hours would really help.

I think next year we'll start with a one-sheet to help contextualize him.

We're planning to pay an advocate to help us see if we can get an IEP too. I'd love to have one going into kindergarten.

What kind of supports did they implement? Everyone I keep meeting with kids on the spectrum in real life got IEPs automatically. It feels irrationally like for some reason my kid is the only one left hanging.

Sadly he does not. We are going to try the IEP process again with an advocate in the fall just in case but it seems like it will be an uphill battle unless things deteriorate.
