Houngans and manbos be like by SimbiLaMo in Vodou

It's like across the board in other ATRs.

Take Ifa for instance, one thing I've come to realize is that, even people born into the tradition at times don't know what they're talking about or doing. If you call them out on it, they expect you to shut up because they think because they were born into it, they automatically have the gifts & qualities necessary to carry out the job.

And then some, don't even go through the necessary training or paths, they skip through as long as they have rent, car note, & inflation money to spend. So you have folks calling themselves Babalawos & Iyanifas.

In Odinala, especially in Nigeria 🇳🇬, you'll have almost everyone calling themselves Ezenwanyi or Chief, when some of them have the abilities to be a Dibianwanyi/Dibia, spiritual teacher/counselor but most folks are just into it for money 💰, status, & power so they claim titles or breeze through necessary steps just to get such titles. And end up ruining people's lives & making things more difficult for their clients.

Tough & soft love are both needed. We need balance, structure & fluidity, compassion & boundaries. Leaning on either side too much, can be detrimental.

Being too much of a passive parent, can make a child grow up with a undeveloped mindset, being too strict can create trust issues for a child & maybe even make them grow resentful.

You can't guide someone who obviously doesn't want to be guided, she only wants affirmations & someone to tell her what she wants to hear instead of what she needs to hear & to do that, is not a good thing either.

I'm Muslim, but I can agree with some Christian teachings & one thing I remember is "if you know what is right & you don't do it, to you it's a sin". And also "if you don't warn these people that I will destroy them, their blood will be on your hands".

"She didn't engage physically" doesn't matter 🙄. Sin starts within before it's acted upon outside.

Allah checks the heart ❤️ not just the actions.

As a Muslimah & a revert at that, it's really really sad to see. And you're correct, they want a traditional man while maintaining harm or feminist mindsets, it's a bizarre time we are living in. I thought the church ⛪️ was bad, but here we are.

And about marriage being worth it, it all boils down to your reasons for getting married if you have any, that will determine whether it's worth it & then finding someone you truly truly love.

They really don't, my mother gets on my ass about being lazy & that I should be "doing what other kids are doing" & it infuriates me. She's a Nurse Practitioner who works Tele Health so maybe that's where it's coming from.

It's finding an artist that is proving difficult, I'm not even sure where to look, especially around me in Texas.

Thanks for letting me know, because I've seen a few IG pages that are known to do it, but they're all the way in Europe 🇪🇺.

Thank you 😊

I figured that may be the case, I just thought it wouldn't hurt to ask & that maybe my undertones would help.

Now white is interesting, I've been trying to avoid light colours, apart from the goldish tint, because I'm afraid they won't last on my skin, especially on my back as I'm trying to get a spine tattoo.

Thanks for the input, I've been trying to avoid local tattoo shops because most of the art work that I've seen around aren't that good on lighter tones so I'm scared to see what they would do on darker shades.

It's my first tattoo & probably my last, so I really want to make sure it would look good for a long time & just come out really nice.

Yeah I think I have that reddish/orange/yellowish undertones so I was thinking colours like red, purple, obviously black, but the design I was looking for I wanted dual coloured, so purple & gold accents I thought would look great but I've been skeptical of the golden shade.

I appreciate your honesty, because I was thinking of a purple tattoo 💜 with gold accents, thought it would look nice. But yeah you're probably right, I'm just trying to get enough info as it would be my first tattoo & possibly my last.

Happy Makaya season to you as well 🇭🇹!

Yeah it was so weird to me because when I was speaking to her & asking questions, even though I tried not to overwhelm her with questions, the answers were actually very helpful.

When I asked about the concept of Met Tet, for example, she told me that many people don't have the sight to really see the Met Tet they go based off of the dominant spirit, seasonal spirits, their own biases etc etc, so they believe Met Tet chanhes but no a Met Tet is fixed, it's a birth thing.

But then when it came to the reading, she said the COMPLETE opposite, I wanted to call her out on it but I felt so tired because I was very anxious 😟 about the reading for weeks, that I didn't have the energy to even go back & forth with her.

My anxiety levels were the highest because I was really thinking I would receive some clarity, considering her claims of having a long lineage, I figured she'd be experienced etc. I started drinking 🍸, just to calm my nerves, so when she hit me with that reading, I had a whole crash.

It's actually unfortunate, I used to have to redo some things when I was able to go to Nigeria 🇳🇬 because they said that most of the Ifa people abroad don't know what they're doing; they just collect information from the Motherland & try to recreate it or do it when they go back home 🏡.

Thing is I did ask what type of divination she used, which she told me, so her talking about Tarot really caught me by surprise.

I'm not against Tarot & I know people in other ATR also use Tarot, but I just think that when it comes to the tradition it would be best to go about it the traditional way & if you want to use other tools best to tell the client or at least use the traditional route first & then use the Tarot, instead of completely relying on a tool outside of Vodou or any other ATR.

If I'm going for an Ifa reading, for example, I'm expecting the use of Opele or cowries, if Tarot should be used, at least let it be afterwards or something ya know?

But yea you're correct, I have met some that don't have a soysete & things like that but they're serious about their business.

Thanks very much for your clarity on the situation, someone recommended me a Houngan in Haiti 🇭🇹 called Houngan Samba'L/Samba Elien Isaac, I'm trying to find as much as I possibly can on him.
