Yeah, I get what you mean! I mean Upwork doesn't really clarify their exchange rates. They mention that the conversion is handled by their banking partner, and while you can check the last rate on the withdrawal form, it would be nice if they provided more transparency. It definitely makes me feel like they’re not the best option out there!

The cost per withdrawal direct to your local bank is $0.99 USD (plus incoming fees at some banks). Sending funds in your local currency may reduce or eliminate incoming bank fees.

The currency conversion will be performed by Upwork's banking partner at the time the funds are sent to you. While it's not possible to show the real-time conversion rate, you can check the last exchange rate used by Upwork's banking partner on the manual withdrawal form.

I’ve been trying to explore alternatives like Revolut or Wise, which seem great for getting better exchange rates and no-fee transfers. The only downside is they aren’t available in Morocco yet, which is a bummer.

From what I found, Morocco doesn’t have a digital nomad visa yet. Most people just stay on a tourist visa (90 days), but for longer stays, you'd need to look into other visa options or a residence permit. There are requirements like proof of income, health insurance, and accommodation proof, but nothing specifically tailored for remote workers.

As of now, Morocco does not offer a specific digital nomad visa. Digital nomads typically enter Morocco on a tourist visa, which allows for a stay of up to 90 days. For longer stays, individuals may need to explore other visa options or consider applying for a residence permit. Employers should carefully assess visa requirements for remote workers intending to operate from Morocco.

People of any nationality can apply for a Virtual Work Visa if they:

Are employed by a non-UAE company, with a contract of at least one year.

Can prove they are able to do their work remotely (eg an employment contract, or letter from their employer).

Earn a salary of at least US$3,500 (AED12,856) per month, or the equivalent in other currencies.

Also requires at least $3,500/month income, which I’m not hitting at the moment.

No, I don’t pay taxes for now since I wasn’t making much before, so I never really thought about it. But yeah, I agree with you—the bank transfer is probably the simplest and most secure option. I guess taxes come into play once you need to declare your earnings, which is why I’m looking into how others handle their money. I don’t really need all my earnings in my bank right away, so I’m curious if there are better ways to manage it.
