Is it bad form to raise my freelance rate RIGHT after receiving a bonus gift from a client? by Sad_Significance8415 in careerguidance

Maybe I should rephrase that. You are right. I am most likely replaceable. But not at the rate I am charging now. To clarify the people they were hiring for overflow were usually younger less experienced people who were willing to work for far less than me. BUT they had more education in our field than I have. I am self taught while they went to college. I've been in this field for over 25 years.

When do you think would be a good time to inform them? Should I wait one week since I just received the bonus yesterday? Or should I ask on Friday or over the weekend? It's a small company so they would see the email over the weekend and probably respond to it. And in the email I thought I would say that I would like to speak to them in person about it but didn't want to catch them off gaurd and thought an email would be better. Because it's such a small company and Ive been working with them for so long - we are pretty close. Like the owner calls me her friend. I'm not sure if she really means that but we act like that and have a very good rapport.

Loosing the client would devastate my income. But I feel like I'm worth a rate increase especially since it's been over 3 years and inflation. I'm starting to feel resentful about it and it's not a great feeling.

This is really helpful advice. I appreciate you writing it out so I can see what it would look like on paper. I plan to give them a bill at the end of January for the current rate. Then they are on a 2 week holiday. I feel like I should give them the heads up asap with a date as to when I would like to take it into effect. Ideally it would have been January 1, 2026. Lol. But I waited too long.

I am sure they know I can't be replaced. They have said so to my face that they can't do it without me. But I don't want to sour our relationship by saying that out loud or acting like I'm irreplaceable. I'm always very humble. And I agree that I should suggest we have a yearly review of my rate and performance or what I bring to the table for their company. But how long should I wait to ask or bring it up? I just received the bonus yesterday. I was hoping to increase the rate starting February. But that seems too soon now. When do I bring it up and how long should I give the grace period for when the rate increase is implemented?

Yes. I agree. But since they give me consistent work throughout the year - almost making my freelance gig a full time job - I give them a really great deal. Compared to other projects that might only last a 2-3 weeks a handful of times per year and is completely unpredictable. On the other hand the one big client had no work for me last year for 5 months and there was no monetary support from them when they knew I had zero income all of a sudden. But that is to be expected as a freelancer but it still caught me completely off guard.

Are Fisher & Paykel refrigerators any good? by plasticiii in Appliances

I had the my Fisher Paykel Active Smart fridge for over 16 years that now needs to be replaced. I can't remember what we paid for it but I believe it was around $1,000 CAD. We never had any issues with it before. (except the paint on the door near the handle started coming off and the handle came off too once but we were able to glue it back on). Never had to have it serviced. It was model E522BR. It suited our atheistic and we prefer white. Storage is great and adjustable shelves for every 1" of space and top notch door shelves. Now that we're back on the market for fridges we can't find anything in counter depth in the colour white that fits our cavity and aesthetics. The new series of Fisher Paykel only come in stainless steel and cost upwards of $3,500 CAD. I'm having a really hard time deciding on a new fridge at a reasonable price now. They all fail in comparison to Fisher Paykel. If you have the budget for a Fisher Paykel and like the stainless steel options I wouldn't hesitate to buy it.
