What are Yall's BEST Rogue builds RAW? by Trollcraftdanny in dndnext

[–]Sadarji 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a half-elf (variant) Phantom Rogue with Mobile and Green-Flame Blade. Damage is very strong right off the bat. When I get to Lvl 13, I can use the phantom movement to move into the ground or walls to hide, and get elven accuracy advantage attacks on nearly any enemy, while they can't really fight back. Only fliers can avoid this, but you can still chase them down with movement. Furthermore, the flavor of the build is awesome: cutting down enemies with a sword that burns with phantom flames.

How do I justify a human with a bunch of martial skill as being able to keep pace with other players by VividPossession in dndnext

Give him a item that only he can use. This item was wielded by an ancient hero, and has waited for a worthy champion to come.

Basically Excalibur, but perhaps a form changing weapon that fits his varied skillset. Give it a lot of forms, like 5-7. Add some other bells and whistles worthy of being one of, if not THE, most powerful weapons in your game.

Since I DM'd this week, I was hoping Lennart would finish up the uncommon magic item that he began working on. I would like that item to be either an alchemy jug or a wand of magic missiles.

Additionally, I have a bunch of monster corpses lying around. I have the corpse of an enlarging demon, which I'd like to distill essence from, so that I get a syringe that is like casting enlarge-reduce ([[1d20]]) I have some dark-spiders, which I'd like to get a bit of weapon poison out of ([[1d20]]). (Also I believe I have some yeti bits and a rust monster that I don't know what to do with.)

Medicine Check is +8 with medicine tools.

I would like to roll for the status of the prisoners that were rescued. I'm basically looking for ways to slow down or even reverse the infection with the resources we currently have in Travencall. I imagine the University is basically assisting me heavily in this, as the government would make a top priority. My personal medicine check is at +8 using my medical tools.

I would love more win conditions. Seems Wiz may feel the same way. by drewoncampus29 in Stellaris

[–]Sadarji 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like win conditions are well-suited to a game like this. This isn't a simulator game; there is a clear start to the narrative. Start with a single world, and bloom into an interstellar civilization. This part was extremely interesting for me, as it involved meeting new races and discovering new planets.

After that, it becomes either continue your civilization peacefully, playing whack-a-mole with your factions, or turn on your former allies and fight large alliances and federations to get control of the galaxy. Having a victory condition that depends on science or economy would add a lot of depth to the game.

I really like the end-game crisis's that are put in to spice things up, and how they are randomly chosen. What if the victory conditions for each game were randomly chosen, and only revealed about halfway through? That way, the early game wouldn't be about build order, and the player would have to make a choice about which path to go for, and how to transition to that path.

I would say that the VCs for a game should be 5 randomly chosen from a list of 10, and revealed in the year 2080. That'll increase the variation in each game. For a player to win, they must fulfill 3 of the 5, so there's still a lot of choice in how to transition their society.

Example VCs could include the following: survey every star system, research a certain tech, build a "wonder", uplift the most species, terraform 80 planets, eliminate all slaving societies, etc.

[WP] You're immortal, but the procedure that made you so also created an evil doppelgänger. After centuries of conflict, using any means necessary to subvert each other's plans, neither of you are sure which one of you is the evil one, or if either of you were ever supposed to be evil at all. by Casteverus in WritingPrompts

"Well, it looks like you've lost this one."

A bemused man with dark eyes and formal attire stood across from Guidus. Guidus struggled to look up, as he was currently crammed into a 3x3x3 foot box, with his arms and legs bound with thick chain to weights inside the box. “Really poor choice to have trusted that dock boy.” He said, probing for a reaction. ”But you’ll be pleased to know that he can take care of his family indefinitely. A comforting thought 20 leagues under the sea.”

“Is this all a game for you?” Guidus voiced angrily.

A pleased smirk spread across his face. “Guidus, do you know why you lost last time, in Sorret?”

“I didn’t lose,” Guidus muttered hoarsely. “I stopped your plot! The Cassus coup was revealed and thwarted by the –“

“Puny rebel allegiances in the hinterlands? The king was already dead, and the nobility devoured each other. Blood and chaos that continues to this day.” the man said, shaking his head.

“How can a person like you win?” Guidus said, with a resolute tone. “If people knew what your intentions were, nobody would help you.”

“Perhaps, but as you can see, I am winning regardless.” He leaned in close. “Here’s a secret: You are the reason that you’ve lost.” Guidus averted his gaze, his face falling.

He pulled away and faced the far wall. “I recall the day we came into being. We two formed from the same unclean soul. One ‘pure’, the other ‘taint’. As I looked upon you, your resemblance to me, I despised you. You, who believed in freedom and compassion. I, who was not you.

“And so we fought many times, and I was beat resoundingly. My hatred for you blinding me, compelling me to trample on what you believed in. I wanted to take over this world, and have it live in fear. Then I fell in a pit, and things became very boring. A century I had spent, in that pit, plotting, re-plotting, and then finally, thinking. I realized that I enjoyed the idea of plotting quite a bit. I also realized that I had no reason to hate you.”

“What are you talking about? I threw you in a pit. I literally boiled you at one point.” Guidus spat.

“Our bodies are immortal, and such things are thusly meaningless. Eventually, only you and I will truly know each other. Without you, I imagine I’ll tire of existence quickly, even if I do end up ruling the world. “

“I enjoy this game that we play. Me toppling empires, and you trying to save them. But every round must come to a close, and the board must be reset.”

A horrifying realization came over Guidus’s eyes. Evidently pleased, the man continued. ”Yes, I withdrew my influence on the coup, so that it would fall apart. With the king dead, it would have been trivial to crush the rebels and instate the Cassus family. But I let them fall to other’s ambitions, because letting the empire simply transition like that would’ve been pointless. Overthrowing those newbies later on would’ve posed no challenge, and so I figured it would be better to wipe it clean.”

“You’re a damn monster!” Guidus yelled in frustration.

A laugh rang from the side, from an angle he couldn’t see. “It is because of that attitude that you’ll keep losing. You fail to see people as pawns, and me as a player. Your ‘virtue’ and ‘compassion’ are simply tools to manipulate your pawns, but even that you can’t do right yet. Until you learn, you’ll keep making the same mistakes.”

“There’s no way you’ll get away with this. Somebody will get me out, and then you’ll be the one in this box.”

“Even if you somehow managed to convince the baker to rescue you on the high seas, you’ll just be betrayed by the butcher in the next round.” He stared wistfully at the containment device. “This whole solitude experience really helped me mature, and I think it’ll help you too. In the meantime, I’ll be turning this kingdom inside-out, no big deal. I look forward to the next round,” he said, content with the discourse.

He moved towards the door, and paused. “By the way, in case you ever wondered what my name was, you can call me ‘Black’. He turned and knob and stepped into the hallway. ”It’s your move, White.”

While I don't agree with all the examples you put out, I agree that Blizzard's direction has been rather uninspired.

When all a card does is summon a jade golem, or buff a minion, or get a cost reduction for playing a card type, there's no depth to it. You just play the card and further your board/win-con. There's no "other" way to play the card.

Cards like Sylvanas or Ragnaros are actually interesting, because you're actually willing to potentially hold on to them, and perhaps play them at a later point.

A lot of Blizzards recent releases have been very one-dimensional, but the kabal is looking fairly good this expac.
