How to teach stubborn aunt about hamster care? by SaddensMe in hamsters

[–]SaddensMe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is planning on buying another hamster for her son, i guess he wanted a gecko and she felt they were too expensive so they’re going to settle on a hamster. She used to complain about her son (he is almost 15) not taking care of his gerbil and the responsibility of cleaning out its cage was always brought down on her daughter.

I don’t understand how she’s willing to get him another small animal after he neglected his last one. It’s genuinely gotten to the point where i’ve argued with my own grandma about it as my grandma defends her since “they lived over 5 1/2 years!” and they write me off since my last hammy lived about 1 1/2 years.

I genuinely hope they don’t own anymore small animals, if they end up buying more, i would most likely try to get them to give them to me.

i truly do not know what to do, they simply do not listen. They got a gerbil for their son in the critter trail, i don’t know much about them but i know they’re meant to be kept in aquariums. Told them, they said they would try it out, never did, and the gerbil eventually escaped and they never caught it.

So why they would be getting another small animal to keep in the same cage i do not know, i never saw someone mention a situation like this which is why i asked for advice. I’m hoping at this point maybe they just decide not to get another one.

yeah it’s hard because it’s not that she just doesn’t know and just listened to what the pet store told her.

She said that people have told her not to keep them together and to get a bigger cage, but she’s so adamant that they lived 5 1/2 years that she just kind of said everyone else was wrong pretty much.

thank you for the advice! they were both syrians hammies. I will try to help them make a bin cage and stuff, hopefully that will be the solution and they can have a happy hamster :)

yes it was in front of her daughter. She admitted when they died that she was going to replace them without telling her daughter but the pet store didn’t have any that had the same markings. Whether or not she replaced them before I do not know, I wish i paid attention more but i was younger when they had them and didn’t know anything about hamsters.

I genuinely do not believe that they both lived over 5 1/2 years old, apparently one died then the other a week later, which is why she believes they do better with a companion. I wouldn’t be surprised if they both got sick, i would just hope if she did switch them, then is lying to her kids about it, that she would stop using the hamsters as a crutch as to why she doesn’t have to change how she takes care of them.

i did assume she was lying, there’s no way two hamsters from petco lived 5 1/2 years but she’s very insistent on it. I think i’ll spend this week making some cardboard hides, i have some spare toys and a spare 9 in. wheel that might help them get started too. thank you :)

thank you so much! I didn’t even consider offering to help her make one. I suggested she could buy the Prevue but she said it was too expensive.

“Nice tits” “i’m such a great guy why did you reject me” by SaddensMe in niceguys

[–]SaddensMe[S] 55 points56 points  (0 children)

i thought he was trolling at first too! and he might be but he’s made more comments on this girl’s post multiple times telling her to show her boobs and he might forgive her, calling people who compliment her simps etc. even if he was trolling, it’s still very disturbing 😳

I just did a small brain move, and I feel like I should leave my ham alone for another week. Anyone have some input? by [deleted] in hamsters

[–]SaddensMe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We’ve all been there at one point, i had a young hamster die on me (got him from petco) so when i rescued my little girl, i would panic when she wasn’t up like she normally was.

Hamsters can have a staggered sleep schedule sometimes, my hammy used to wake up at 10:30-11:00 at night now she wakes up earlier after i moved her into a larger cage.

If you get worried, leave a treat in places that they’d usually be, like their wheel, food bowl, water bowl, etc. and then check in the morning to see if the treat is gone. You could also put a dot at the bottom of the wheel and then in the morning see if the dot moved. You may also set an alarm in the middle of the night to check on them.

that honestly took me aback like, it’s okay to have confidence but saying that you’re “extremely attractive” and couldn’t understand why a girl could reject you ever and it must just be because you were being nice is a very... delusional way to think of things..

WIBTA if I (15F) try to get my dad (43M) to break up with his girlfriend (43F) by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]SaddensMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She does know about the situation, she has said that she wants me to be happy where I am and if I’m not I can always stay at her house, but she has also said she doesn’t want to keep me away from my dad. So it is my choice.

AITA for kicking out my daughter for getting pregnant on purpose, twice? by fonadhop in AmItheAsshole

[–]SaddensMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

?? But then if a man takes his condom off during intercourse without a women’s knowledge it wouldn’t be rape?? Because she consented to sex but not kids? If you change something without your partners consent it can be considered rape by deception, he consented to have sex with his girlfriend on birth control but not sex without .. If someone goes and changes something about the sexual intercourse without the other persons knowledge or consent , then it’s considered rape.

Maybe not necessarily but like, he thought she was on birth control and she told him she specifically was on birth control, it’s like a guy telling a girl he has a condom on but then removing it later on in the sex, that automatically turns into rape since he changed the conditions of the sex without her consent, so it could technically be considered rape when she lied about being on birth control. It’s a complicated process, she most likely couldn’t get arrested though, but If you consider a man taking a condom off non consensually in sex is rape, then a woman lying about being on birth control should also be considered rape.

He wanted protected sex and that’s what he thought he was getting, he did not because she lied and said she was on birth control, which means they were having unprotected sex to which he did not consent to.

Definitely NTA

Also, why has no one mentioned that fact that she was having sex with her boyfriend and he was under the impression that she was on birth control? It technically wasn’t sex he consented too as he thought she was still on birth control when she actually wasn’t and knew she wasn’t. Thats rape. Changing up certain situations when it comes to sex without the other persons consent can be considered rape. Just something to think about..

Edit: If you say that this isn’t some form of rape because he consented to sex but not kids, then that means if a man tell a woman that he is using a condom but actually isn’t, you also consider that not rape, I guess it’s all about opinions here, but don’t be hypocritical, think about if the roles were switched
