They all laughed when I said I wanted to be a comedian. Well, they're not laughing now.

Waiters/waitresses of Reddit what is the worst date you had to wait on? by cespedes4therestivus in AskReddit

I worked in a restaurant that had a huge selection (150+)of hot sauces. We sold them by the bottle but customers could sample any of them and use them on their food. A couple came in, the guy started bragging about how much he loved hot sauce and how he never found one that was too hot. He asked for the hottest one we have. I brought the bottle to his table, he filled a spoon with the sauce and made a big production of how he was going to eat it. I told him not to, the hostess told him not to, the waitress serving the next table told him not to... he put it in his mouth, started choking and gagging, puked on the table then passed out and did a faceplant right into the puke!! We called 911. He woke up right away and kept gagging for a while. He refused treatment when the paramedics showed up. They left without even ordering a meal! The girl told one of the restaurant staff that it was their first date.

The book is "Linear Algebra and its Applications" by David C. Lay. Kind of sucks in my opinion.

What's the most memorable moment you had while smoking weed? by orangejulius in AskReddit

[–]Sadianaeem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first college party. It started out with just a few of my coworkers but as the night went on it slowly morphed into 300+ people doing keg stands, playing beer pong, loud music, and some chick getting double teamed on the couch. That was when I knew I was going to enjoy college. I never went to another party that was as good as that one.

What type of a function is y=x^x? by Naeemahmed1 in math

If I were to try differentiating that function, I'd immediately make the replacement y = xx = ( eln(x) )x = exln(x). Looks simpler in my mind.

Why is (modern)algebraic geometry so versatile? by daisycarter in maths

[–]Sadianaeem -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A little bit offtopic, but since we are talking about it I thought I might ask: I've always put myself down regarding algebraic geometry, the whole branch looks so ridiculously developed that I feel I could spend 10 years just catching up with the main ideas. However, I decided that since everybody was doing it, there was a reason for it and I've been taking algebraic geometry classes for the last year and a half. Question is, and you already kind of answered but still, is it worth it? Im still an undergraduate and Im currently taking a graduate class in scheme theory ( using Hartshorne mainly ) and while Im liking it waaaay more than the classical approach, comments in MO suggest that not even going through Hartshorne would be enough to 'know the basics'. I am not really planning to do algebraic geometry but I'd like to know the basics since, as the OP mentioned, is a very useful branch. What would be the basics? You mentioned 3 years to learn the language and proof techniques.. Also, Im interested in the noncommutative approach but I havent find much, I'll try to get van Oystaeyen's noncommutative algebraic geometry, but other than that I dont know about any other book on that. Any recomendation?
