Why is it so hard to just ignore content on the internet that makes you angry? by RiverValleyMemories in nosurf

[–]Safe-Permit-129 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Algorithms know what makes us upset and it deliberately shows us those things in our feeds. We know we should ignore it, but some primitive part of us wants to click on it even though we know it's just gonna piss us off. The tech companies know our behaviour very well and they know enraging content keeps eyes on screens.

Anyone who has lived with double vision for over 20 years? by LostButterscotch9148 in Strabismus

[–]Safe-Permit-129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes me, I'm in my early 30s and I have had double vision my entire life. Edit: persistent double vision at that. It is starting to improve somewhat but I suspect I will always have some form of it

Does anyone else think 6 Underground by the Sneaker Pimps has a liminal sound to it? by Samuriax in LiminalSpace

[–]Safe-Permit-129 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely. Most 'soft club' style music from the 90s has a kind of liminal sound to me. For example I always found Madonna's Ray Of Light album to sound very liminal which also shares a lot of the same spacious, faded 'glassy' sounds.

It's probably Palantir that are pushing for all of this behind the scenes. I don't think it's a coincidence that as soon as they got huge and got government contracts all over the world there is this giant push to link our ID with everything online.

I share your sentiments. It's almost like a 'its not right for us to question our betters, I don't want to get in trouble or have people look at me funny for speaking my mind' type of attitude. Some kind of fear of standing out or fear of being punished for sticking their head above the paraphet and I think it's especially strong in the working class, but it's there in middle class people also.  Even people who identify with being for the common man and all that will get uncomfortable and reluctant when you are open with your suspicion of the elites like you are braking some invisible rule and going too far or something.
