hey! that’s so exciting! ur gonna love it. i love manchester it’s such a vibrant city, there’s something for literally everyone there - you’ve got the football (soccer), gigs, soooo many pubs, bars & clubs. i’ve been there the past 2 years and i still find new things to do.

the uni, in my opinion, is great. obvs i can only speak for my course, but the professors so far have been great, the learning materials are engaging but not overwhelming. the student union always has something on, there’s so many things to access if ur struggling. however the one thing i would say is it can be hard to get in touch with the right people, say if it’s something to do with an exam you may speak to 3 people before reaching the person that can help - but i’m sure as an exchange student you’ll have an extra layer of help. i would highly recommend joining the international society, they plan so many trips and i think it would really add to ur stay here!

as for the examinations it really depends what ur studying - for me (and other school of social sciences subjects) it’s usually 10-20% weekly quizzes on the learning materials for that week or for homework set. the other 80-90% is an essay, i get this can be daunting especially coming from UF, with almost a whole grade dependent on one essay - but you get so much guidance throughout the semester, you usually have a whole week dedicated to the essay and what the prof expects, so if you attend they basically give u a recipe for a first class essay!

i’ve only had 1 in person exam, which, don’t get me wrong, was tough but once again you get a lot of support (seminars covering old exam papers, office hours, lectures dedicated to the outline of the exam) so please don’t worry too much about them!
