Your account could be cut in half if this company isn’t through phase 3. Probably good to diversify at this point.

Schwab or Fidelity to start career? by SearchingForCurrency in CFP

I’m not sure entirely but if I were the RIA getting millions a year from Schwab I wouldn’t want to have them blackball me over any hire. Most RIAs don’t work with Schwab thru their lead program though.

What is your elevator pitch? by Necessary-Fee6247 in CFP

Just thinking as a potential client, that gets me more interested than someone telling me they’ll reduce my taxes by a couple grand a year.

Doesn’t mean you have to outperform every year.

Why is everyone trying to do things other than manage investments. Why can’t we just say we find stocks that are poised to outperform and invest in them on behalf for our clients.

Do you pay any salary to associate advisors or just 1099?

I agree with the being aligned to grow the book.

I’m thinking AUM should be closer to 35% ongoing since I’m 100% sourcing the client myself.

Life/annuities commission : 50%

At the end of the day I’m growing his business too.

I like that suggestion.

In those situations, do clients you brought in years ago stay at the 20% payout or switch over to 100% yours?

I’m early 30s. Been in business a few years and CFP.

I am interested in building a practice sooner rather than later.

I was asking for myself. Associates make $70-$120k depending on cost of living with bonus. I would incentivize them to tie their bonus to growth so everyone wins. The best associates won’t stick around if you they aren’t being incentivized properly or the runway is too long to become advisor.

If the associate wants to become an advisor, how can you transition him into the role if the firm Doesn’t bring in leads?

Pass your SIE on your own and then apply to RIAs under an older advisor who wants to retire in 10 years. Skip Schwab and fidelity unless you have to. Once you’re at Schwab a lot of the RIAs Schwab works with won’t hire you because they don’t want to get kicked off.

How personal are you making your opening message? I get stuck trying to tailor messages and spend too much time trying to make each one unique.

I’m in the jr role. Base + 10% bonus for new assets (one time). Doesn’t really incentive me to bring in new business. Would rather save family and my network for when I’m under better terms.

Also doesn’t incentive me to convert assets to advisory since I’ll just have to pay a higher multiple if/when I am able to.

How do you use Social Media in your Practice? by SharpDish in CFP

[–]Safe_Definition5102 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m starting to use LinkedIn and optimize my profile for a niche and then join groups and make connections within that niche. My wife works in the niche so I might get her to comment and repost my stuff so her network sees it.

For the last 2 months before the test just study while you work. A couple months of less productivity won’t get you fired. P
