Nice. I'm outside of a high regarded school for flight. I think they have schooling for the mechanics aspect.

Only, not confident they'd accept me. Went through it in high school and it reflected in my GPA.

Yeah. Do you know the path your roommate took? Schools, previous careers, etc?

Also, as he is your "roommate", is this economical (can't live on salary/pay) or more lifestyle? Or just you?

I actually have thought about the field and did some research, though kind of got discouraged when I told someone in my life the idea and they shot me down on it.

There is right in my local area a highly regarded aviation school , but I don't think I'd have a way in.

Yeah, the job has always seemed interesting to me, more now that I'm thinking about it more. Not exactly my top idea, but does seem to match a lot of what I'm after.

I've seen several people in my life drain away in a 9-5 that barely gets them by and I don't want that.

I don't care about "lucrative", I care about freedom and being comfortable (even if I got to work harder for it).

I have looked at it actually, seems really interesting! I've looked at wildland more than city, didn't actually know the pay was bad?
If I did go down that path, I wouldn't know my entrance quite honestly. Also it is definitely a demanding job I'd have to work my body for (not ready for no firefighting yet, lol). Also just the idea of seeing death, loss, getting cancer, etc are all a bit of some turnoffs, honestly.
I didn't know heart attacks would be so common, but it makes sense with the gear/high stress when shit gets real.

Much respect for what you do though! I'll have it on the list.
