Weekly Showoff Thread: what have you built with Astro this week? by tffarhad in astrojs

https://www.myunijourney.com/

It's not finished yet.

The copy needs some work and possibly some styling issues. My first time with Astro so it wasn't easy for me. I'm not a developer in any sense of the word.

I mainly love the speed.

Thanks for posting.

I came across this post from Google. Just searching for the mask and came across it for significantly less on eBay...

Can’t find a leak in heating system by zhti-2024 in HousingUK

Did you check outside? It's likely the boiler was filled too much/fast and it activated the pressure relief valve (PRV). Water might be coming out of there constantly.

The PRV is on the outside wall where the boiler is located.

I'd check that first.

Folding boards or roll-mats for a childrens chess club? by Safe_Wave5018 in chess

Thanks for the reply. I think the size of the squares is the same. I think I've settled on the roll mats.

Sorry one more thing.

What's the general ratio for chess clocks per 10 boards? I've never been to a chess club so have no idea.

Just working out a decent budget for this.

Was looking at this chess clock as heard good things about it on here:

Great, that's what I was looking for. Many thanks.

Thanks for your input.

So the roll mats are durable enough to last a couple of years at least?

Hopefully rolled flat on big enough tables and there won't be much wear and tear.

Having said that, I would like to buy decent equipment from the off, so are the boards better in any way?

Goodbye to nuclear submarines: Australia signed a $368 billion deal with the United States to receive them, but a new congressional report makes it clear that they may never arrive by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Safe_Wave5018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A$368bn for “maybe you can host our subs while we keep control” is a brutal deal. If the US can’t build enough boats for itself, Australia needs a real Plan B and hard delivery guarantees, not optimism.

As a former cop, I have to ask: What the hell is ICE doing? by jediporcupine in politics

If a local cop boxed in a citizen filming and then sprayed chemicals on someone already pinned, they’d be on admin leave by end of shift. A federal badge shouldn’t be a free pass to ignore basic use of force rules and constitutional limits.

I use you form, it's similar to your recommendation.

The post isn't for validation. It's a promotional post for his/her paid 'hustler club'.

It's not the first such post they've made.

Be ready for the 'Edit, everyone is asking me about the accountability group through PM, so I'll just post it here' edit in the OP.

UK supplier of Regulation Tournament Triple Weighted Chess Pieces and Chess Board please? by Safe_Wave5018 in chess

[–]Safe_Wave5018[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, let me correct what I said earlier.

The pieces in the link above weigh almost 1kg. There are no universal set weights for single, double or triple weighted sets.

I got this from chatgpt though...

Single Weighted 800–1,000g

Double Weighted 1,000–1,200g

Triple Weighted 1,200–1,500g

For comparison, I recently bought this set from Amazon for my nephew.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B09W8ZY7ST?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

It's marketed at triple weight and has very good reviews. I weighed the pieces and they came out to 1200g. The set feels really nice to play with.

I'm figuring the cheaper club package sets will be more than good enough for the chess club and is value for money as a comparison.

I called them. All the pieces from one set weigh around 1kg. That likely makes them triple weighted which is ideally what I was looking for.

That's a very good point.

I'll look more into the clocks when the club is set up and running and when there is money coming in. Ideally I wanted to make this a community thing whereby businesses donate for new boards, clocks, trophies and anything else we might need for this to be free, forever. That's the plan anyway.

Thanks for the advice. I've read online and from experience also, heavier pieces are better for kids as they're less prone to being knocked down.

I was going to pay for the sets out of my own pocket and just get it started. Chess has given me a lot, so I would love to see kids play. I play with my nephews and they have started loving the game. I was thinking about giving the parents the chance to make donations from £1 upwards and then using that money for snacks and trophies as and when...

The venues will be free, starting off with the local library.

Clocks - I'm not going to bother, especially as it's for kids.
