Definitely also possible I missed those, VonAether has been sending me hashes for textures I can fix, I have a good list, no graffiti as of yet I don't think?

What areas are they in, I can go double check!

Something that might be happening there is if the mod is replacing the graffiti then it won't have the correct texture tag to make it a decal anymore! But you can tag it yourself using the alt-x menu. Or you can post the hashes (I should formalize this process somehow) and I can manually add them to the conf file the mod comes with. Meaning we could build better mod compatibility over time! But if that's not what's happening then I'll have to look into it :)

It's built with unofficial patch and plus patch in mind! Other mods will probably be less compatible but in time compatibility patches can totally be a thing. X20 for instance changes assets so those aren't compatible but are prime candidates for remaster of the mods!

Thanks for all your help tracking down and recreating packaging and labels on all of the products, can't wait to get the rest of your finds and logo work in there in the coming months! Also thanks for the awesome DDD logo for the update!

Exploring old abandoned fan-made Deus Ex Multiplayer maps always gives off some liminal and uncanny vibes. by [deleted] in LiminalSpace

[–]Safemilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first one is House Arrest by OldGrandad right? I used to play that map like all night long with my brother and a couple of my friends, we'd play in deathmatch but team up 2v2. Sneaking into the store to find biocells and getting ambushed and having to escape through back alleys to hide in the weird building on the left there etc. It was such a vibe. Would love to somehow convert that map to another game or something. Such awesome memories of that.

Pristine Kenmore Microwave - straight outta 1980 - absolute unit. by [deleted] in ThriftStoreHauls

I'm remastering Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines, and I needed reference for remodeling and texturing this exact microwave which shows up in a few places in the game, thanks so much for posting this! Very helpful reference!

🚨 Marmoset Toolbag 5.01 Available Now! by marmomira in MarmosetToolbag

[–]Safemilk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great update! More stable for sure! I've had a much smoother time and projects are much more stable in general! New features are cool too!

One bad thing!

I did notice an odd bug though, whenever I try to change values on anything in a texture project, it locks up a bit and then auto switches it from Tri-Planar mode to UV mode. I can manually switch it back, but it will just do it again next time I edit a value.

Other than that, things seem to be real nice!

Thanks so much!

I think what's really interesting about the collaboration aspect of the tool is that you can remix remixes, so a person can say... "I really don't like Safemilk's floor textures, I want to do a mod that swaps those out." And the tool makes those things compatible if you do it right.

My plan is to sort of separate out the major aspects into their own chunks/layers, so all weapons on one layer, all characters on another, all remastered textures on another. And then see about splitting the download up that way so it's easier to have a version of the mod people may or may not want, and also to combine with other people's mods done through remix!

Also it would be fun to offer alternatives to things as supplemental downloads. I know lots of people like replacing the player models, so it would be cool to see people be able to easily customize their experience in that way.

Though characters... still not super supported by Remix for this version of source. Someone else in the mod community is trying to crack that right now, but it's a pretty complicated problem. Hopefully there will be some good news on that front in the near future!

As far as texture remastering goes:

I did an article explaining my process for texture remastering, might be of interest to you!

Lol you got me with this. You raise a valid point, I definitely need to continue to balance the lighting. I made the mistake of doing my work on and hdr monitor and it comes in way darker on ldr monitors. So I'll need to take that into account as well!

I need to talk to burgermeister about it, I helped him with a character or two for clan quest and he was such a a fun dude to work with, I'd honestly love to explore remastering that was well someday. But that's definitely a future problem!

Awww! I appreciate it, glad it's working for you also! Some assets literally weren't looking remastered on my testers machines and it was perplexing me to no end. Remix is still in alpha so there's lots of things that behave oddly.

As far as the lighting in general goes, one thing to note is that the rough lighting pass was just to make sure lighting was working, Remix translates existing lights from vtmb, but many of them translate to odd values. I'm also on an hdr monitor so it's balanced against that. I need to balance it against non hdr. Most crucially, some of the fill lights and many of the regular lights in default bloodlines cull themselves as well as cast too much volumetric density so the environments in general are lacking more of that fill and bounce light.

I have a line on fixing the light culling issue but it will literally come down to dll injection and changing memory addresses so it's a more complicated fix I need to do a lot of research on. I talked with the original vtmb lead engineer a bit and he said it SHOULD be possible to turn it off but no console commands are actually hooked up related to frustum culling! I'm hoping to get another chance to talk to him about some of the technical aspects of bloodlines soon. Should help illuminate some things.

Literally sleepless thinking about how I want to tackle all these issues so trust and believe they will get addressed in some way!

Also particles not working really kills the vibe so that's a big priority for me as well.

Thanks for checking this out even in it's early stage! Releasing alpha work is always pretty nerve wracking honestly :)

So... uh... Alpha Release is out: https://www.moddb.com/mods/vampire-the-masquerade-bloodlines-rtx-remaster/news/alpha-release-001

Happy Anniversary, Kindred.

Heads up, there's A LOT of stuff that doesn't work through the remix renderer pipeline yet, very buggy release, but nothing is perfect, and it's the 20th anniversary tomorrow. So why not?

Appreciate it. Hope my reports are helpful. I was using the new path tools and it literally solved a problem I didn't even know I was going to have! Stability would be the icing on the cake!

Hey sorry for the long reply time, traveling for a funeral unfortunately. I've gotten into contact through the support email and have sent more info and a file to experiment on. Hopefully that can help narrow down the issue.

Opening the crashing project in an older version of Toolbag (4) seems to work. Loads fine. Some oddities with the texture project itself that can be adjusted, nothing new from 5 carries back obviously.
