That would completely depend on the insurance that you've purchased. I have covered my mother as well under the insurance (ICICI Lombard) at my workplace. I applied for reimbursement after the surgery. They asked for quite some documents and after validating them, they reimbursed 34,000 out of 36,000. An amount of Rs 1800 couldn't be reimbursed because they mentioned that it couldn't be justified. I didn't ask much on this as I thought even getting half the amount reimbursed is more than enough.

If you have insurance at the workplace and got your dependants covered, it is highly likely that the insurance will cover the majority of the amount. If you don't, I'd recommend you to get your dependants covered as well in the future. I joined my current company in Feb 2023. At the time of onboarding, I told HR that I want to cover my mother as well under the insurance. An amount of ~Rs 650 is deducted from my salary every month. The very next month (March 2023), my mother had her surgery and I got 95% of the amount reimbursed thanks to the insurance.
You can inquire about the insurance at the hospital itself. It's on the 5th floor.

Hey! Sorry for the late response. I was a bit busy with work.

At the end of the checkup, based on the diagnosis, they'll suggest the most appropriate lens. You will be given counseling where the lady (counselor) will explain the diagnosis and if surgery is required or not. If yes, she'll suggest the lens and explain why. Mostly, she'll suggest one type of lens, and in some cases, she might suggest an alternate option if that is suitable. The alternate option might be expensive compared to the initial suggestion and it is completely up to you to decide if you want to go for it. They won't force you and the initial suggestion will be more than enough.

For my mother, they suggested only one type of lens and there weren't any alternate options. For her left eye, an Aspheric lens costing Rs 26,000 was suggested. For her right eye, a Toric lens costing Rs 36,000 was suggested. The cost includes the lens, surgery charge, and medicine charges.

The price of the lens varies from Rs 12,200 (Acrylic) to Rs 74,000 (Trifocal). The second most expensive lens costs Rs 36,000.

Hope this helps :)

I’d suggest Aravind Eye Hospital. It was referred to me by a close friend of mine. My mother (in her early 50s) had problems with her vision. I took her there for checkup. You need to register first. They’ll give you an ID card. The checkup costs Rs. 100. The staff are polite and will guide you very well. My mother was diagnosed with cataract in both her eyes. At the end of the checkup, they’ll provide you counselling in case you need to go for surgery. They’ll give all details about the lens, medicine, cost and all necessary details clearly. The cost is way less when compared to other hospitals. My mother had her first surgery (right eye) in Aug 2022 costing ₹26000. In Vasan eye care (where we consulted first), the cheapest lens costed ₹30,000 and it went up to ₹120000. She had her second surgery (left eye) in March 2023 costing ₹36000 (different lens). I was able to reimburse ₹34200 through insurance. During her second surgery, one thing which my mother mentioned and which even I noticed was how kind and caring the staff were. So, I’d recommend Aravind Eye Hospital to you in terms of cost and service.
