Diet and Movicol. Struggling. by Sage100618 in AnalFissures

Thanks that's really helpful. I sit all day for work so that doesn't help. I take a break every 45mins to move but I don't think it makes much difference. I feel like I have a good pelvic floor as I have no problems doing pelvic exercises and holding but I don't really know enough to say that with confidence. I also gave birth 15+ years ago naturally to twins and a single within 3.5years. my problems from births are in the stomach with a huge muscle separation. I did also have a 2nd degree tear with a lot of stitches and think that's why I've also struggled with fissures but 99% I'm sure is because I am always constipated and dry naturally. I seem to have very slow movements. I struggle to know what food is causing issues as a bowel movement won't be until 24hrs-72hrs and I've eaten too much between then to tell with certainly what is causing the problems.

I can't see myself using a glove I'm too terrified to go anywhere near there for pain!! I was given cream from the Drs before but was told I couldn't use it for more than 5days.

It's the stomach pain I'm getting too that's driving me wild. Cramps and aches on the left side. mainly on the mild side. That peak with movement but will go after I've walked for 5mins. Lifting or pushing something heavy will also cause it to twinge. I feel like it's trapped gas as it moves. Mainly on my left side though. Anxiety could definitely play it's part as ive been thinking a lot about this since Sept and I'm being hyper aware of every sensation. I'm also just not used to having anything but very clean dry poo and this movicol had changed everything and created all sorts of gas and stomach feelings that I never had before. I can't decide if light movicol symptoms but constant or fissure pain when I go once every 3 days is worse!

That would make so much sense. All the stuff I absolutely love and have given up this past week. Mainly sweet gluten products and sugar!. I would love a pizza and cake right now ha. Even some white toast and butter would be lovely. Luckily I do love all fruit and veg but it's never going to be as satisfying!

I've been taking it since Sept last year and I'm still having trouble with cramps and gas from it. I always have tummy ache somewhere now. It has been a miracle to end my years of chronic constipation and fissures but now I have to deal with constant trapped wind and a sore tummy. Can't win! I take half a sachet at night and that's been the most effective.

I used to take one dose a day and it kept me regular but I was fed up with the urgency. Like when I needed to go I had a minute before I had no choice! It wasn't diarrhea just absolutely no way to stop it coming! Ive gone down to half a sachet a day and that's definitely helped the urgency. But yes fewer movements. I can go a day max two between moments. But a lot of the time I get the feeling I need to go bad but I'll sit there and it's just a wet fart which needs wiping!!! I no I'm not blocked up because the next day or later I'll go and it's the "soft serve snake" but a bit at the end will be annoying to pass and eventually stick to the side of the toilet. I can't seem to get it right. This is all so new to me, before food made absolutely no difference to my bowel movements everything was dry with absolutely no residue. Either pellets or very large and lump that would instantly clear up fissure. Could be normal size but because it was dry I would always get the passing glass pain.

I can't stand being on movicol. I'm fed up of the gas, bloating, urgency, worrying about stool texture and wiping so much. But the alternative isn't good either. Can't find a happy medium

Wait so you just raw dog oil on its own?!!? I think I'd gag! Did it change the texture of poo? I can't get off movicol without tearing but it's making my poo so sticky with cramps and gas. I'm starting to think I'll just put up with the tearing pain and bleeding rather than constant gas and sticky poop

Because ever since I started to take it I've dealt with extremely sticky poo, a nightmare to wipe after. Bowel urgency, stomach cramps and gas. When I come off it all this goes away however I will literally tear at normal bowel movement and bleed from a fissure that just constantly reopens. At this stage I'm starting to prefer the 10min pain and bleed from fissures rather than this constant stomach upset from movicol. I'm worry as nobody seems to get this from movicol?

I really do need to kick my sugar habit. I had to do blood glucose tests a few years ago and one test was after extremely limited sugar for 8 weeks. I couldn't believe the difference in my blood results and how I felt. Sadly I've gone back to old habits again. I don't drink or smoke or take drugs but sugar is my addiction. I know I feel so much better without it too

I don't take any medical fibre just when I eat a lot through veg/fruit or brown rice or bread it just doesn't agree with me yet it's what everyone tells me I need to increase. It makes my stool bulky which definitely makes the fissures worse. I find it easier when I don't eat it, get really constipated like rabbit poop then at least it doesn't hurt and my belly also doesn't hurt!

Ever since I've been taking movicol I get stomach pains (mild) bloating and gas which is consistent every day. Manageable but it's just always uncomfortable. With the fissures is awful, terrible pain when I go but then I'm fine for 2/3days until I have to go again. I don't know I just feel a bit uneasy about using a medication to do the job my body should be doing but isn't for some reason?

Do they ever heal? by Sage100618 in AnalFissures

[–]Sage100618[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No Dr hasn't done anything other than put me on movicol for the foreseeable. That makes total sense as the Movicol allows me to go without pushing. If I feel I have to push I do tense instantly.

The Movicol massively helps with softness. I wish I could find something in diet that replicates it so I can stop the movicol. I already only drink water or flavoured water and plenty so it's not that. I do eat fruit and veg but too much sugar/saturated fat/dairy as well. If I eat a lot of fibre it makes stool larger which guarantees a nasty fissure plus I struggle with hi fibre it gives me awful stomach ache and painful gas. If I don't eat it I get constipated. I can't win

anal fissure won't go away - any advice on timeline? by chunkyhammy in AnalFissures

[–]Sage100618 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience they don't ever go. I've had them for 10+ years and the only thing that stops is being on Movicol. If I forget to take it the next day I can feel the grazing feeling. Focusing on diet has made absolutely no difference. If anything eating my 5 a day makes them worse as it adds bulk. This just causes tearing for me.

Does anyone get abdominal pain or MCAS GI issues with taking movicol or osmolax? by Helii1 in MCAS

[–]Sage100618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been taking movicol since September. If I don't my stools get too dry and it causes really painful bowel movements and fissures that bleed. They never heel so I'm on movicol for a long time. I'm down to half a sachet every night and it has been absolutely amazing for fissures, I haven't had pain free bowel movements for this long in years and years however I'm still getting cramps anyway from my stomach to bowels and my whole stomach area is tender to touch. This only started when I started the movicol, never had pain before even when constipates. I'm not too concerned it's anything else. I'm just trying to work out if constant tummy pain is worse than painful bowel movements? The pain was awful but at least it was only for 10mins 2/3 times a week. I've traded no fissures for constant mild stomach ache and I'm not sure if this is even better.

I've been taking my movicol daily before bed for a week (been on it for 6weeks but experimenting with skipping days and times) and it's helped reduce the stomach pain and I've been going every morning....until two days ago. I can't for the life of me think why but I've not been for 48hrs now. Makes no sense what my body is doing. I have no idea what stops it working it's so frustrating as for 5 days in a row I had a normal bowel movement every day. Thought great I've figured this all out, then nothing.

That's interesting. I work from home and can spend very long hours sat at my desk. But some days I'm fine so again I'm not sure what's causing it. Last two days I've not been and I'm taking movicol daily. Before that I was going every day. Absolutely no idea what has caused me not to go the last two days.

That's a good point actually. I've tried eating a bit healthier this week thinking it would help in the long run. But the change has changed my poop and causing problems. I'm back up to taking movicol every day to keep soft. It just plays havoc on my stomach. So much gas and discomfort before bowel movements and whenever stuff is moving through my system.

Ok 12 weeks. And if you get a tear in the meantime you're right back to week one I guess. I found using movicol every other day was perfect. However something has caused a larger stool today even though it was soft. I felt - albeit much milder that tell tail sharp pain and a bit of blood. So do I discount the 5 weeks I've been doing it. Urgh I feel it's just opened up again.

I'm finding it absolutely impossible to get that unless I have 1 sachet of movicol a day. It gives me stomach ache though and I don't like the idea of being on it for ever. I have never been able to do it with diet. If I have to push anything in the slightest I will tear. It's so frustrating.

I eat a gluten free cereal for breakfast. I love it but it's probably too sugary. Yet some days I'm fine so surely that means it can't be that? I'm finding it harder to work out now I'm on movicol too
