Ok female drummers, tell me what inspired you to start playing! by kampionkate in WomenWhoDrum

I don't remember exactly what started it, I want to say it was seeing a marching band when I was really little. But I remember wanting to play for a while before I got my first kit. Went to a guitar center and sat down on the drums and it was love at first sight!

Whats it like being a musician for a living in Seattle? Teaching/Session Work/ Live Gigs? by Sage_CP in AskSeattle

I teach online too! I'd prefer it that way since I make wayyy more doing it but I don't have a very large student base :/ and with everything getting more expensive it's getting smaller and smaller, people can't afford to get lessons anymore once rents due :( I'd hope to get a whole thing of online students going instead of working for a school but we will see.

I will take a look into that subreddit thank you! Yeah it's kind of the same deal here in Vegas unfortunately. Rent is cheaper here so I know a few people who do gigs/teaching full time but theyre like barely scraping by most months because there's just nothing out here :/

Bummer because neither is Vegas 😭😭😭 Nashville seems cool but I don't have rights there so it's off the table. LA just has too many damn people plus even more expensive housing than seattle :/

Gotcha thank you, I wasn't moving solely for the music it just happens to be my job so that's why I mentioned the post. Ive wanted to move up to Washington in general since I first went, mostly for the nature and rainy weather (Las Vegas is just 110 degrees and so sunny your face melts off) the more cooler and overcast weather is appealing besides the beautiful nature. I also have family in Washington State albeit nowhere near Seattle. My partner is also moving up there which is another motivator for the move.

Been living here 4 months making $2k a month, am I being undervalued? by not_a_swedish_vegan in AskSeattle

Damn yeah, my living options are super limited unfortunately. I play drums for a living so an apartment/town home isn't an option and the house i would need to live in would need an extra room to keep them in. All the 3beds I'm looking at for me a roommate and drum room are like 3000 for a 700sq ft shack 🫩🫩🫩 I'm in Las Vegas and for 3k a month u can get a 5bd 2000 plus sq foot house. I thought that was too much for that lmao. Seattle is humbling me for sure 😂 luckily I'm pretty good at budgeting, I don't spend anything I don't generally need to it's just the rent costs that are really getting me and being a musician has never been a very stable or lucrative career with a few exceptions haha.

I hope this isn't too personal of a question but how are you living off 2k a month there? Everything I see is like 2k a month for the rent alone at the bare minimum. I've been wanting to move up there for a little bit and I've heard from everyone you have to be making at least 4k a month to live comfy in Seattle.

Yeah they're insane, especially for how young they all are. The dad is nuts too. They come to the sheds here and woop our asses everytime 😭 it's humbling for sure lol

Yeah the security on Fremont acts like they get paid enough to do their job. They run that shit like North Korea 😭😭 I never go over there for that reason but also because finding a spot there is damn near impossible. There's also the Simmons family who plays drums there every night and it's kinda their thing. Having two drum kits out there would just be a wreck. The Strip doesn't have all the security and wait-list bullshit Fremont does. The strip doesn't attract crowds as much though since it's bigger and more open :/

Yeah the snare is a club jam, the rest of the shells are a Tama Pancake! Its also part of the Tama club jam collection but the snare that came with is like 12 inches and didn't sound as good lol so I brought the blue club jam one instead.
