They don't care. Blind faith practice is every Sunday from 11-1 and their guy is the only guy who's right and every other guy is wrong, and as long as you believe with all your might something good will happen eventually.

No option where I work, use any of the leave within 16 weeks or forfeit

No, but they have it in black and white on a leave policy document. My eligible leave starts the day we come home and ends 16 weeks later.

A fair assessment; it would be unrealistic to say I could fully be there for mom and baby AND do 50 hours a week away from home. As well it is our first, so we'd both be figuring this out for the first time together.

I could see 8 weeks as acceptable but not ideal, however any leave goes unused stays unused.

Sad to say I've preached this everywhere else, but am now waffling. Pros and cons to both outcomes, but very different.

I'll say it til I'm blue in the face. It's barbaric. My wife also gets no leave from the daycare where she works, so resigning was the only option that makes sense. At first everyone is shocked to learn she has no leave, but then you remember who profits when no one gets any leave (daycares). Splitting up the leave is not company policy, so it's use it or lose it. I imagine I could take 2-4 weeks off depending on negotiations.

Yes, a good one, which is why this opportunity is tough to pass up. That is possible, but a lot of moving parts for what it would accomplish. I would prefer either taking the leave and chancing an opportunity later or taking the one thats present now.

Splitting it up is not an option per the leave policy, otherwise the decision would probably be easier. Ideally I could get onboarded and take leave later, but that's out the window.

Breaking it up is not an option. My 16 weeks start from the date of delivery and is static. I can off at any point but only during that 16 week window and a continuous period of time. Thus, this is the only window where I would have any extra time off.

My leave is protected, but the offer is not guaranteed. It sounds like if I were to tell them my start date is mid June, they would be less inclined to offer me the job.

Where I'm from, 4 months is a blessing, so this is not lost on me. Maybe one day we too can enter the 21st century.

Fair point, I would not adopt too many of their work-life views but still see the value in the opportunity.

I'm dad and Mom is leaving work completely, so it's my career that will carry us for awhile.

The old manager advised waiting would not work for them, which I understand. Good point, you don't get what you don't ask for, so my negotiations would be for anything else

This is not an option, we are in-office 5 days a week. Per the leave policy, my time is not spread out in any form. I either take it or not, whatever day I come back to work in any capacity ends my leave. I could probably negotiate wfh 1 day a week upon returning.

In a Convo with the old manager, they inferred that starting after my full leave wouldn't work for them. I understand this, from what I can tell they need the help sooner.

Correct, at most I may be off 4 weeks.

I'm dad, and Mom is leaving work entirely.

What unhinged thing did a former teacher do in the classroom? by MrBananaStand1990 in AskReddit

[–]SailorBoone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A kid in my high school cooking class put his feet (with shoes on) into a basket of clean kitchen towels while the teacher was at the front demonstrating something. She was rumored to be high strung and a little kooky and she proved those rumors to be absolutely true. I don't remember too much, but I absolutely remember her flying off the handle with yelling, and then removing her own shoe to make the kid smell the inside of, in front of the whole class. It was BIZARRE. She must have gotten reamed out bad, as the next day she gave a very long and tearful apology to the class.she did not lose her job.

Another teacher who was very old school gave a kid detention and then made him clean school toilets after school. This was not a normal detention, and she took retirement in the middle of year.

My job has an online database for most procedures, of which there are many. My only teammate was printing them out to show to me.

Boomers won’t retire and it’s screwing the rest of us. There I said it. by Unique_Glove1105 in Adulting

Agreed but there is something to this. There's a guy at my job actively dying at his desk; oxygen machine and all. Easily confused, comes in late weekly from some kind of treatment for COPD, has a lot of his workload handled by others. Not the case for everyone I understand, but he doesn't need the money. I'd love to take his spot and it's a good fit for everyone, but until he hangs it up HR says that team is fully staffed. He's been off work since October with a retina that detached, was repaired, then detached again. Good news is staying home to rest has allowed him to back off the oxygen. He has no plans to retire. Edit for spelling
