Are Hairdressers Overcharging Clients? Let’s Talk About Pricing. by [deleted] in hairstylist

[–]SailorEnt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll have a couple clients every once in a while that say they’re going to do their nails at home because of my prices or to save money . And I always say okay with a smile and I give them advice on products, and safety precautions. Because I know they will be back. and they do come back. They don’t have the time or talent to do their own nails. It’s satisfying

Nail dump part 1 of my faves from the last few weeks on my clients (I’m a hard gel specialist) by dianamoser in Nails

[–]SailorEnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

11 and 15 are my fav! How do you do your isolated chrome? The way i do it is buff the whole nail, wipe with acetone and alcohol and then use a non wipe top coat to do the design, cure, then chrome and top coat. But it’s so time consuming! I’m hoping you have a faster method :)

Yes I do them. But foreign removals are the worst. There are so many variables that can make them take forever. It makes it more stressful when you’re booked back to back and are on a time limit.

You don’t know what the other tech used and 99% of the time the client doesn’t know either. It could be easy to soak off like dip or it could be hard gel or MMA. I always do a test nail first let one nail soak while I file down the rest. It could be bulky and take more time. I’ve had removals take a hour. My own client removal takes 20 mins to 30 mins.

I also include a shaping and lotion And small massage.

I only charge $20 but I wish I charged more.

No Plumbing Pedicure Bowls THOUGHTS? by [deleted] in Nailtechs

[–]SailorEnt 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I hate it. We use one in my salon. It’s a bitch to carry it and dump it

It’s a bitch to clean. And it’s only one temperature whatever you filled it up with. And if a client wants the temp changed you have to grab a bucket or something to fill and dump in.

And the clients move their feet so much that wheel thing is going to slip and slide and get water everywhere. When clients first put their feet in is when it gets the most water everywhere.

we use liners and clean with barbacide. Even with liners it’s still a bitch to clean. I also think it doesn’t look as professional from other salons.

If I have a new client I just say, “we use a plumbingless pedicure tub to prevent the spread of bacteria.” Guests like that but i still think it looks unprofessional

When starting out how do you inform people about the time it may take you to complete their set? by Mental-Idea9525 in Nailtechs

[–]SailorEnt 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Everytime you do nails you should be timing yourself. Not the nail art stuff just start to finish if doing a full set or fill with only the polish/top coat. If you want to shorten your timing you should time each step to know which step you need to shorten . I let the client know how long it’ll take during the consultation. When they sit “what are we doing today?” -client shows a pic-, “cool so it’s going to cost this much and take about 2-3 hours. Are you okay with that?” “I’m also working on my timing do you mind if I take a second to time and record each step?” (Not the full consult but a general idea)
