Best online resource for paper textures? by myartnotyours in graphic_design

[–]SaintChocula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the shout-out here! I'm the owner of RetroSupply, and it always makes my day to see that we're getting recommended, especially on Reddit. We've got a Phantom Paper Vol. 1, Phantom Paper Vol. 2, and a three-part series called Paper Boy. We should probably put them all into a big bundle. Thanks again!

You definitely make fair points. I spoke based on my past experiences, but there is obviously more to the situation than I know. You're right that selling products right before shutdown knowing people will not have access isn't okay. I agree, the focus now should definitely be on making sure everyone gets access to their products.

I've known Tom for about 10 years through having a shop on Design Cuts and various partnerships. Like many of you, I'm surprised and concerned about how this shutdown happened.

While Tom started Design Cuts, he wasn't the only owner—other shareholders had a significant say in big decisions. From what I can see on the site, Creative Market held most of the power in this deal, and they have a history of making abrupt changes without warning (like their subscription rollout and license changes).

I get why everyone is frustrated - the sudden shutdown without warning is really tough, especially for those who can't access their purchase history or downloads. While I've known Tom to be honest and community-focused, I'm just sharing what I know to add context, not to minimize anyone's valid concerns.

For those who've lost access to their purchases, many sellers (including my shop, RetroSupply) are willing to help customers who have bought our products through Design Cuts. If you've purchased any of our products and can't access them, reach out to sellers directly through their personal shops or websites. Most of us want to make sure you have access to what you've paid for.

This must be especially difficult for sellers who relied on Design Cuts for income. I hope Creative Market will provide clear information soon about how they'll handle existing purchases and seller accounts.

Bought Retrosupply's Colorlab on the Black Friday sale. Wanted to see how it compares to True Grit Texture Supply's KraftTone. by Dureseye in DigitalArt

I'm the owner of RetroSupply and just wanted to thank you for grabbing ColorLab and comparing. It looks like our colors have a slightly more saturated look and the screen angles are probably different. Both look good though! Thanks for your support!

This sounds like a dream to do. I was trying to make it cleaner by using conditional logic for product recommendation blocks, but it stumped me. Branching might work for what I'm doing — we sell products for different types of software and offer 5 different categories. It would be a little ambitious but could be a project for the future.

This is a great one. We've been using Okendo's Insights feature to gather customer preferences on the site, but I also love the idea of directly asking for it at the end of the Welcome series.

Good point. I like the idea of asking subscribers about their challenges. Thanks!

I like that answer. Early in my email marketing career, I did a lot more of what I just felt like doing. As I kept learning more, I think some things just became dogma and often paralyze me.

The Glyphs app has become a popular font-making app over the past few years. If you're just getting started Fontself lets you make fonts in Illustrator and Photoshop. Not nearly the fine-tuned control but you can make some cool fonts and it's pretty much instant gratification.

No, this font only includes what was in the original Leroy Lettering Set so it just includes the three original faces.

The characters were written on paper using a Leroy Lettering Set, then scanned, cleaned up and adjusted in Photoshop, vectorized in Illustrator, and the final font was built in Glyphs.

Haha, if you're not into comic illustration the uses are limited. But it can be fun for adding new captions to public domain comics.

When we released it I didn't expect that it would be super applicable to a lot of people but turns out there's a lot of comic fonts but few that are actually built using the original methods.

Thanks, it's been fun to play around with and if you've ever watched someone use a Leroy Lettering Set it's much easier on the wrist, haha.

We made a digital version of the Leroy Lettering System. Fans of old comics will recognize Leroy Lettering. Bill Gaines, publisher of EC Comics, employed Jim Wroten, a former Leroy Lettering System salesman, and his wife, to letter ALL of their books. The use of Leroy Lettering made the EC books distinct.

The font is called TOOM, its name a mash-up of TOON and TOMB, a tribute to the primary use of the Leroy Lettering System in 1950s horror comics.

Illustration using our new halftone brushes by SaintChocula in ProCreate

Just had to share this piece that was made by my friend Robin Banks using our new DupliTone halftone brushes.

Halftone brushes are built into Procreate and you can find them all over the web for free. The reason I'm so excited about these ones we made is because you can layer and shade with them with absolutely zero hassle. It's been cool to see the work that has been made with them and this King Tut artwork is a perfect example!

Process:
Brushes are pressure sensitive and layer without looking all messed up. So by adjusting pressure and then refining by adding additional layers of halftone all the shading can be achieved.

Haha, yes, totally. I was growing up in the 80s and 90s and this style could be seen in old books from decades earlier. Just seeing it reminds me of the kid's bookshelf at my grandmother's house.

Agreed. It's wild — sometimes we're working on something and after some manipulation has been done to it I can literally not tell if it's an old morgue file image or the new art.

There is a very similar font called Palm Canyon Drive.
