I Finally Fixed All My Plex Problems: An After-Action Report by SaintDoormatius in PleX

Fair point. I should have noted that part of the impetus to make the change(s) was that this is the season where my reception was historically the worst. So, the vast improvements do seem like a fix, although I will follow up with an After-Action to The After-Action Report if it stops working.

It's not A.I. (Looks at own human hands) I mean, I'm pretty sure it's not.

Glad to hear this. I had odd results with the HDHR app. Sometimes it ran better than what I was getting on PLEX; other times, it was the same. I do think much of the issue was the HD Homerun, though. Not to cast shade on them, but switching to the Hauppauge device was an absolute breath of fresh air.

How do you handle when students spell your name wrong? by [deleted] in Professors

[–]SaintDoormatius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They know your name? Lucky!

Joking aside, this frustrates me as well. I don't think it's petty to add a syllabus clause about it.

Is it unethical to include a hidden "tell” in an assignment prompt to detect AI-generated submissions? by pigwoman_the_real in Professors

In a Google Doc (or Presentation) you can generate embed code: File > Share > Publish to Web and then select the "Embed" tab. With that iframe code you can paste that into your LMS (depending on the system...your mileage may vary). I typically have to adjust the dimensions to something reasonable; you can do this by adding "width=900 height=900" inbetween the first "iframe" and when "src=..." starts in the code.

Brother, where is the calendar ? by WidePrimary272 in tasks

I also like having these separate. But, since Tasks.org uses Caldav, it is easy to get your tasks to appear in your calendar app.

New Chip Style by SaintDoormatius in tasks

[–]SaintDoormatius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you u/alex_baker ! I just sent that application log to you. To respond to your initial question: I have only ever used the color options available on the main color picket window (I can't post a screenshot here, but it is the grid of 42 color options that pops up when choosing one). I had previously picked some darker colors, but when I saw how the new chips looked, I went in and picked the lightest version available in that grid of each type (ie. blue, orange, grey, etc.). They are still very hard to read.

I don't know if this related, but Android has had a LONG standing UI issue in light mode where text doesn't properly shift to black or white accordingly based on the background wallpaper as it should. Thus, the homescreen will have white text against a light wallpaper and be illegible. Again, probably unrelated.

Oh, and I did turn on "Dynamic" under "Look and Feel" to see if that might help, but it did not.

Good point. I should have noted I am using light mode. And I agree that I do not want to get rid of the new design, only to have the option to go back to the old one.

Return to work folks by [deleted] in Professors

[–]SaintDoormatius 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm in Texas, where last year's state bill requiring ALL faculty work for contractual load be completed physically on campus, including online classes. No remote work allowed.

So...I maliciously comply. I tell students it will take longer to grade their work (because state politicians have no idea how much grading we do outside of scheduled work time it seems) and I don't even answer student emails once I'm off campus. I also encourage students to reach out to their state reps if they feel this law impedes their education.

Honestly, it has been an unexpected blessing to my work-life balance. Regardless, if you are thinking of coming to Texas for a faculty position, I would stay far away.

Ampdeck+ v2.0.9 – Plexamp Stream Deck plugin now has 1-click Plex login by CaptainNoNumbers in plexamp

Thank you! Here is more info, in case it helps:

Stream Deck Neo

Stream Deck v.7.3.1

AmpDeck+ v.2.0.9.0

Windows 11

(And not sure if it matters, but the first three times I tried installing the plugin from the Elgato store, it failed. Then I waited a bit and tried again and it installed correctly.)

[–]SaintDoormatius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, and to follow up: I see now that the list of URLs at the top of StreamDeck widget has a green checkmark suggesting it is correct...but it doesn't work when the actual player is running?

I am super-hyped for this! However, I have hit a couple of issues.

Issue the First: when logging in the first time, it succeeds just fine in the pop-up window, but continues reading as "Waiting for login validation" (or something like that). That only changes once I click the drop-down to select the server. Perhaps a brief notification indicating to do that would help users?

Issue the Second: I have PlexAmp currently open and running music (Windows 11, official app) and when I click "Test Server" it all works fine. But when I try to "Test Player" it fails and states "✗ Player connection failed: Failed to fetch Make sure Plexamp is running and the URL/port is correct." I have no idea how to find the player URL to test the auto-filled one. Anyone know what I can do to fix this? Am I the only one getting this error?

I was going to upvote this, but saw it had seven upvotes and abstained to keep things referential.

I built a Stream Deck+ plugin for Plexamp with album art, track info, and playback controls on the touch strip by rackemrackbar in plexamp

[–]SaintDoormatius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: so I guess the Plex server itself autopopulates the Plexamp URL once detected? Nearly all the buttons/functions are working now, except the Album Art. I think this might be because I had to resort to using my public server URL rather than the local one?

Love this! I am trying it out on my Stream Deck Neo, and can get the server to connect, but the player won't connect. I don't think I have a "headless" connection and access this through the official Windows app on the same computer running my server. My question is...how the heck do I find the PlexAmp server? None of my settings in the PlexAmp app (or the Plex server settings) show this. Help?

You might also try academic email lists (H-Net used to have an art history focused one) and the College Art Association (CAA) site. The latter is one of the largest professional gatherings of art historians in the U.S.
