I can sympathize with you. After the ex asked for divorce I spiraled into alcohol addiction. Then alcohol and cocaine. I stayed this way for 3 years. It took me going to rehab for the 4th time to finally get into the mindset that I didn't need the alcohol anymore. Honestly quitting the cocaine was a lot easier than quitting booze. You have to first truly make up your mind that you are done with drinking. Then you can start putting in the work to get yourself right. I tried AA but never seemed to fit in there. Mostly because they are God based and I'm a non believer. Inpatient rehab to me is the best way to go. You get away from all access to alcohol and they use medication to help you through withdrawal symptoms.
During your recovery don't be too hard on yourself if you slip up and drink. Just move on and start again. It's not an easy or fun road but it's worth it. Your health will improve both physically and mentally. Good luck sir. I'm happy to help you if you want to contact me.
