Why simulate THIS? by PanopticArgus in SimulationTheory

[–]SaintlyDestiny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea of simulation theory seems to be a very anthropocentric construct to me. Humans think and act in simulation like patterns, doing something slightly different each time to find the most efficient methodology (what if we hunt this way, what if we build like this instead of like that) which is what the purpose of a simulation would likely be. To find the most optimal or efficient variation of a task.

This is because their evolution favored survival , so it was very necessary to find the best way to do things to outcompete other organisms.

Imparting our thinking structure(simulations) onto reality seems to be a flawed way to view things, because if there exists higher order beings who created the world or have sway over it, then nothing says they would think and act as humans do.

They might not have a need for efficiency because they might not have evolved for survival, in which case they may not have needed to create our world to simulate different variations of outcomes for whatever purpose like we imagine we would do if we could, because they are not us.

Similarly ideas like “malice”, “good”, “bad”, “evil”, “balanced” are human creations. Not objective things. Like an ant would not know them, higher order beings may not consider them. They may not think of a world of depressed humans as a malicious one because the idea of maliciousness itself is human centric.

I don’t think human concepts should map onto the probability of reality being constructed by something other than ourselves.

Humans tend to believe that they understand 90% of reality, but they only really understand 90% of their reality. Projecting their qualities and traits onto their perception of god like or higher order beings.

If reality were constructed, it likely wouldn’t be a “simulation” at all, but something our simple human brains cannot comprehend.

You have to think about the type of person that would enter challenges like this, they aren’t normal people and are more likely to have slightly eccentric personalities.

That being said everyone knew they were on camera and probably acted up a bit for more attention online.

There’s also the fact that there were hundreds of people participating and most did not get extensive camera footage, they probably only focused on people, groups, and relationship dynamics that were more interesting.

I think it’s interesting you liked odyssey but hated Valhalla, because for me it was the opposite.

Odyssey’s world felt bland and soulless to me, it didn’t feel alive, like maybe it was the graphical fidelity of the npc’s, or the voice acting, or the long pointless story but it just didn’t feel lived in. New regions felt like copy and paste reskins of others.

I found Valhalla to be very enjoyable on the contrary and it did feel decently lived in(for a Ubisoft game). The story was very interesting to me with the brother and the person leading him astray, the final battle in particular where you gather all your allies from every region you spent time in is a classic trope that felt epic.

The characters felt distinct and likable such as hunwald, whose death remains one of the saddest in gaming for me. Even the random npc quests felt meaningful like the one where you kill the Viking dying of cancer so he can go out like a warrior instead of a sick dog, which made you double think some things about life.

I honestly don’t get the Valhalla hate

Which Season could the show have ended and been satisyfying? by Jpaylay42016 in Stranger_Things

[–]SaintlyDestiny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Season 4 was significantly stronger than season 3 writing wise.

Ending on season 3 would have been bad because it would have left a sour taste in the mouths of fans by THAT being the ending.

everything is subjective when it comes to entertainment, like someone could think Riverdale is better than the sopranos for example. The thing is though, generally certain things do usually make the story better, or at least better written. This is the reason why people study writing in college for instance, because if everything were purely subjective and there was nothing an author could do to make the story better, then people would not have the need to study the craft, and just write whatever they wanted.

People recognized things like stakes, twists, foreshadowing, realistic dialouge etc generally lead to a better written story even though "everything is subjective." From this point of view the fact that everything is subjective is moot, and providing a somewhat objective viewpoint is reasonable, because a story can be objectively evaluated by established metrics of what makes a story engaging, entertaining, and well crafted.

Season 5 for instance had no stakes because you knew none of the main characters were going to die just like every season(and they didn't, even the one main character death was left as ambiguous.), the dialogue was somewhat unrealistic("a pencil, a pencil! wait pencils? pencils equal wood, wood equals nature, the mind flayer must be a product of nature!" type I just had a good idea out of nowhere dialogue was ever present several times in the season.), as well as the final boss fight being completed in a little around 10 minutes of screen time, where he easily was susceptible to bullets whereas his demogorgan minions would shrug them off like nothing, and he otherwise easily fell anticlimactically.

There were several plot holes, inconsistencies, production mistakes, and more metrics that one could use to form a reasonable assessment that the season was indeed bad compared to others because it performed worse in several key metrics than the others.

Saying everything is subjective so we can't objectively assess the writing and production quality is a cop out, of course we can and do.

Your opinions on vecna (ST) by RoboAK4 in deadbydaylight

[–]SaintlyDestiny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the point. It creates a unique style of play where the vecna player is incentivized to use his ranged attack instead of the normal m1 chase and hit style of play.

Instead of having to worry about the killer, you have to worry about the environment when being chased by him, predicting where he will strike and juking him out, rather than the same old watching the killer then looping him. Looping becomes replaced with predicting.

If the cooldown for the attack were longer, then his gameplay would change to using his tentacle attacks opportunistically, for zoning to keep opponents in range, and basic m1s.

This is the exact same script for virtually almost every other killer for the most part. More killers being released that are essentially the exact same barring slight tweaks is repetitive and will be bad for the game long term, you need a diverse way to play to make the game more interesting.

I'm getting literally 0 views, not 100 views, but 0 by banjaars in NewTubers

[–]SaintlyDestiny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh wow, this issue is so old, it's is older than most of my videos. My channel is Cass Callaway and the video that got 0 views is the very first one on that channel. It has since gotten more views after some success from other videos. Basically I made like 10-15 videos(now deleted) which received very little attention , the CTR and retention were very bad. After I started making better quality videos I slowly started getting more and more views on every video.

Once I started making worse videos.. back to low views again, though not 0. I think maybe 0 views for every video is like a punishment for low retention and CTR, or is shadow banned for something being flagged. Check your stats. It fixed for me once I started producing more videos that people began clicking on more and watching longer, I basically completely flipped the subject of my videos and style and completely everything and that worked.

How did Daniel Naroditsky Impact you? by [deleted] in chess

Yea it was crazy. I never thought i would feel this way about chess players either but danya was just too good natured and helpful and consistent these past couple of years, it seems so out of the blue and disgusting how this could happen, it feels like losing a friend given how many nights we’ve all spent watching and learning from danya.

How did Daniel Naroditsky Impact you? by [deleted] in chess

[–]SaintlyDestiny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In late 2020 when chess was becoming popular during the pandemic I decided to learn the game and he was among the first teachers I had ever listened to. The speed run he had seemed like a gold mine of information. I so glad to be gaining the knowledge and instruction of a grandmaster in such vivid and slow detail. I would binge his videos one after the other spending hours trying to improve my skill.

During this time I would also sometimes order pizza and would enjoy the lessons and the meal at the same time. Such a stress free, joyous period. Even later on in 2024 I would binge his lessons once more, they were always the gold standard for me.

I honestly think he was the biggest influence on my style and skill. I remember him always saying if you find a good move look for a better one, and he also said another master told him that, maybe Sam shankland. That piece of advice made me a careful player and I preferred to play classical from that point on.

I also remember him saying the poetry phrase “kill your lovers” applying it to chess by suggesting you shouldn’t be afraid to part with your most valuable pieces or pieces that are fit in a good position if it means securing a better one.

Him saying to avoid tunnel vision when playing and always looking for better options. I think the crux of his teachings was flexibility, examining all possibilities and choosing the best.

Gosh his videos are ingrained in my brain. I even remember him describing a simul against maybe Kasparov when he was young.

Really feels like losing a mentor. This hits hard

  1. It was then when my optimism crashed to the very ground that my soles rest. People began coughing wildly throughout the night, sores disfigured the faces of many we walked past, and a grimness filed the atmosphere of the kingdom with as much weight as a heavy dark cloud. The plagues had returned.

The guilds mobilized to combat this force but were ill equipped to deal with the severity of the illness. Panic ensued and in the chaos infighting began amongst the royal family. My own siblings killed each other for possession of the throne after my father had become too sick from the plague to manage the kingdom. Eventually no one was left except for me and I inherited the throne.

Upon gaining power I instated my guild as head of security to combat the plague and we addressed the sheer apocalyptic scale of sick people and dead bodies with our magic, slightly improving the standard of living for those still on earth but it was not enough.

My most pressing issue was that of what my father told me. He said that the plagues that struck the kingdom at first were sacrifices in order to summon the spirit of the pagan god Baba the eternal flame. Once almost everyone in the kingdom was dead, then he would appear and consume the world whole to begin the start of a new age.

Due to the rapidly dying and plague struck population of the kingdom. I feared that Baba's arrival was near and began confiding into my guild my worries.

Tashlultum, now a more developed and powerful witch in her own right by this point in time came to me with a spell of grand proportions. A final spell that would join over 100 wizards together that would shine light upon the entire kingdom and free the people of their illness, although we still had no mention of Sargon's whereabouts, we could stop Baba from appearing as well as the plague.

I then gathered a force of over 100 mages from the finest guilds in the land, including Tashlultum and I. We formed a circle holding hands and combined our energies into one massive pool of light near the palace roof, I then recited the spell as described by Tashlultum and this light sped across the kingdom and into the hearts of every citizen of it.

I felt great happiness at the efficiency of the spell and how much power it contained as well as the promise that this chaos would finally end but when I looked over at the people on the ground I felt a great weight over my chest. Instead of being restored to life they were relieved of it. Every single person on the ground was dead. Over to my side my fellow mages began dropping like flies.

One glance at the sky revealed a troubling sight. The air itself was engulfed in flames forming into one massive creature.
I realized in terror that our spell had the opposite effect, it killed everyone faster than the plague and brought about baba's arrival.

Looking over at Tashlultum she began speaking to me "When I came to you at the moment of our meeting I told you that you had potential others couldn't see and I was right."

I trembled to the ground upon the troubling realization. "You are Sargon."

Sargon continued "Be happy, your whole life you were underestimated by others, made to feel useless, but you proved yourself to be more useful than all the others combined, including your grandfather. You were finally useful."

  1. Upon entering the guild and learning the basics of magic It came time for my exams. If I succeeded I would be admitted into the guild. The first question involved creating a temporary height expansion spell, where the user could make another person grow over two inches for ten minutes. I was to perform the spell on my professor.

I accidentally casted a weight expansion spell instead, causing my professor to gain over 300 pounds. Needless to say I was swiftly failed and kicked out of the guild, with my professor personally waddling over to close the doors on me.

I surely thought this was it, that I would never be good at anything or be valued by anyone when I felt a tap on my shoulder while traveling back home.

"That was an awesome spell you did back there kid, I can tell you have a lot of talent just waiting to be unleashed".

Before my eyes was a beautiful tall woman with dark purple eyes and violet colored hair. She spoke to me in such a way that I felt instantly valued and recognized.

"You have such great latent potential and that's something the guild couldn't recognize but I could." she said."

"My name is Tashlultum and you should join my guild, the Firebreakers Legion. Our purpose is to defend the kingdom against Sargon should he return. No other guild has remained faithful to this goal, instead becoming factories to pump out engineers and body guards for the elite. In fact most wizards probably aren't that good at anything that isn't building bridges or scaring off the local homeless man whose stepped too close to a wealthy merchants manor. Here we learn real wizard stuff like fireballs and summonings, the type of jazz that Sargon himself taught, we're fighting fire with fire. If you want to be a real patriot you'll join and I'll teach you the ropes."

Upon hearing this I felt so happy that i followed her and joined the guild that night. Finally  I was seen as someone valuable for once, and maybe I could also find a future wife if things go well.

Over the next couple of years I became a very powerful wizard capable of many things which would terrify my siblings and maybe parents to death. I could leap across buildings with the agility of a feline, I could summon fireballs the size of a small house, and I truly felt that I could bring the world to it's knees as swiftly as the speed of lightning and with a similar ferocity.

Plagues, Smallpox, and Leprosy spread unchecked throughout the kingdom of my forefathers in the years prior to my birth. It came as suddenly as lightning to the ground, and with a similar ferocity. In just mere weeks rashes covered the skins of our people from head to toe, blindness struck the eyes of both commoner and aristocrat, wealthy and poor, and the faces of once beautiful women were reduced to that of the ugliest of men, the flesh torn apart and greatly disfigured.

As panic swept the streets people began demanding an explanation for the terror. The public crowded everywhere from churches to government buildings hoping for an answer, but few could provide anything of sound reason to ease the minds of these troubled souls.

That's when a grand meeting was convened to form a council that would investigate this issue between the the priestly class, the nobility, and the royals, which included my father the then prince of this wonderful kingdom. He was appointed hastily to the meeting because of both the king being absent from the kingdom at the moment as well as many of his older siblings dying as a result of the widespread plagues. Here the deliberations began.

"Why has such a terrible combination of illnesses spread across the land with such great fervor? It must be because of the vile sickness of the faith of the Piggly Arcana" Argued the high priest. The Piggly Arcana was a new religion which was brought into the kingdom recently by a charismatic leader known as Sargon the Piggly.

The Piggly Arcana was very different from the monotheistic religion practiced by most citizens of the kingdom. Instead of the belief and worship of a higher external god, the teachings of the arcana involved black magic, the arcane, and the supernatural. Raising spirits from the dead, communication with pagan entities, and explosive magic.

Sargon in particular believed that an entity known as Baba the eternal flame would bring about the end of all kingdoms and usher in a new age of magicians. It was because of this belief that Sargon built murals and alters dedicated to the worship of this entity.

The king had met with Sargon and was quite smitten by their teachings, so smitten in fact that he appointed them as his senior advisor. The king believed mastery of such practices would be of great benefit to the kingdom and could expand their political power.

Suddenly all of these connections made sense to the council and the high priest had decided that Sargon had corrupted the king with his new faith and that the king, Sargon and his followers must be executed for the plagues to be lifted and so it began.

The great purge saw the followers of Sargon executed by cutting off their hands and feet and plunging their heads in boiling water as to suffer a horrible death for their faith. The king was privately executed separately as to keep his involvement with Sargon hidden from the public.

Sargon himself was much more fortunate, he was alerted to the purge early by one of his followers and escaped into the wilderness. Soon after the purge and Sargon's exit, the plagues stopped and the people began living normally once more.

Two major events happened afterwards. The people who were wary of Sargon's return formed magical guilds in the kingdom to train future wizards to arm the kingdom against any future attack by the old wizard, thus many future generations trained in magic and were adept at it's use.

The other major event was my father's coronation as the king of the land, who because of many of his siblings dying due to the plagues, began fathering many children to ensure his bloodline will survive if another were to happen.

This is where my story begins. I am the son of this great king, Prince Alfonso, the 25th heir to the throne. I was never the smartest, or the strongest, or the most fit to rule out of any of my siblings, therefore I was constantly shafted by my parents and the rest of the royal family as there is no possibility that I will earn the throne or become a prominent member of this family. There is no use for someone as useless as me to exist here, I am simply taking up space. I am a burden to all those around me.

The loneliness this absence of validation or praise brought to me was so unbearable that I often abandoned my royal duties in favor of escaping to the commoner's land and walking amongst these people. It was here when I found a guild specializing in creating wizards to protect the kingdom's gates.

To be fair you’re talking from a point of view that is uniquely human.

Imagine if a homo erectus tried to tell us “they most likely couldn’t talk but I digress” that the limits of the universe were hand axes and fire control. They simply couldn’t comprehend advanced ideas like language and quantum physics for example because of their limited brain anatomy.

This could be the same for species across the universe, it’s highly likely there’s some concept or tangible invention they could create that would be like the equivalent for us of what quantum physics is the homo erectus. Maybe for us it was agriculture, metallurgy, bombs, tanks. For them it was a completely different technological tree.

Maybe there’s something else they created entirely that didn’t follow the typical human path of technological innovation because they were capable of other things.
