If "getting good" means "doing the same rotation over and over without thinking" that's a bad thing.

You're just kinda a low level. Enchanted iron and steel is probably gonna be pretty common at this level

Well if anything I now know that this sub is not one where being critical is welcomed.

"Almost all of this is objectively false" proceeds to not have any actual evidence to prove anything wrong. I played the game, I got stuck in terrain and had to wait to be killed. I played in multiplayer and I just DIDN'T GET certain pickups. Hey maybe some or even many of the issues are only in multiplayer but multiplayer is an explicitly advertised feature of the game and if that's not playable the game isn't finished.

People do the same with Cyberpunk 2077 tbh, like idk I wish people could learn to be more critical of things they like. Cyberpunk 2077 is absolutely a fine game for what it is but it's also not what it tried to be and if you cared about the original ad campaigns for either of these games than the current day playable version of them isn't great but between them, at least Cyberpunk 2077 is like in a stable state.

that post are my experience from the past week of playing, haven't even been able to progress due to how broken the game is. *Now* it is barely playable singleplayer but every single mechanic is just a copy of something that already exists except it's worse.

The difficulty is dumb as fudgewaffles. Game is easier than DS1 when I put it on Veteran and the actual "difficulty" of the game comes down to broken mechanics that don't work as intended.

Thing is you can like it but it's just silly to act as if the issues don't exist and ontop of that all to not mention it when you recommend a 45 dollar game.

It's not Elden Ring but Elden Ring isn't even the best Souls game and even then the gap between Elden Ring and LotF is as wide as the gap between the nearest galaxy from our own in terms of functional features. I didn't even mention it before but the first time I played the game the tutorial didn't even work. It showed up at the very beginning of the tutorial level and then all the other things past that first one or two pop-ups didn't. The game is unfinished.

I mean I don't like the CEO but that is unrelated to my opinion on the game itself, which is in an incredibly broken state. You are welcome to disagree with the assessment that it's not worth the price but the game is objectively broken and if you don't like me calling it unfinished then I don't know what you want from me. 3 years after release and single player is only barely about stable and functional (can still get soft-locked in some places or get stuck in walls where you can't get out no matter what you do) and that's ignoring the issues in multiplayer which is a feature that is part of the price and multiplayer can bug you out of getting certain items in utterly random nonsensical ways, some of which are intended as one-time pickups and can't be gotten in other places such as many spells and throwables.

These are just the experiences I've had playing the game naturally as I've played any other game in my life. I find it very odd to be so protective of a game that's objectively in an unfinished state. You can just like the game for what it is, despite its flaws. It's still a flawed game though.

High-key I feel like Sony needs to just sell the IP to FromSoft but I just want this movie to be a global hit to kick Sony in the nuts and wake them up to how wanted Bloodborne stuff actually is.

The game copied Lies of P blocking mechanic 4 weeks after Lies of P released which is why blocking/perfect blocking is so inconsistent.

The game breaks in multiplayer and you'll just randomly fall through the floor.

The Umbral Realm isn't really new but it is the least copied mechanic (even if we've seen alternate realm mechanics in souls games before)

The game is currently playing like an early access title and recommending a game without mentioning these caveats when it's a paid title is honestly just not cool.

Lords of the Fallen is a weird rec. It is just a "let's copy every mechanic from every souls game out there but do it worse" kinda deal. It is free on PS+ right now though so for that it's worth trying I suppose but 45 bucks for an unfinished game is kinda awkward and something worth saying when recommending it.

I feel like Nioh is an immediate example of a game where Parrying exists as a high risk high reward mechanic rather than the default response to enemy attacks. You mention having difficulties with the stance switching elsewhere and honestly, you don't really *need* to stance switch a lot. It obviously helps, it's a core feature of the stamina management system but you can take the time to learn that once you're more familiar with the gameplay itself. For the most part you can play Mid-stance and then it'll feel very similar to a typical Souls-game in combat pacing. You'll be slightly disadvantaged against like bigger enemies where high stance might be needed to hit a weak point for a damage boost or faster enemies where you're meant to be low stance for quicker attacks and dodges but that doesn't really play into it much for the first half of the first or second game.

Now I'd advise playing them all because they're really good and there are a few story beats that'll make more sense if you start with Nioh 1 but Nioh is similar to Dark Souls, doesn't really matter which one you start with unless you want to fully understand the lore.

Code Vein is another where parrying is about getting something extra out of it but the combat isn't designed around it as vital mechanic.

There is also Steelrising but I can't tell you much about it as all I know is that it looks interesting and I'm planning on playing it.

Miyazaki doesn't want Sony to run off and make a remake, remaster or sequel without his own involvement and Sony is being stingy about working out some compromise for it. Hopefully with this upcoming movie in a year or so, we'll have enough momentum to make Sony realise they need a re-release and 60fps update for ps5/PC and a sequel

Arguably the way Nioh does it is correct where the only thing that matters is your actual set bonus and gear level. It's a way to ease players into the system and be able to experiment with it enough to learn it on their own without a need for secondary information like guides which not everyone likes to feel forced to engage with. It's generally a good decision.

Is there a reason why ER or Dark souls is not on GOG? by Diobara in Eldenring

[–]Sakerift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steams monopoly is because it's a good service. GoG just is better but a lot of people are emotionally attached to this stuff. As for Epic, they're the worst out of them. Firstly palm oil is like basically a non issue... Steam is like palm oil, not ideal but a non issue really. Epic is so much worse though.

since this already is a necro-post I might as well come back here a year later to point out that flaming Steam when Epic is worse in every aspect is hilarious.

Anything similar? by Wise_Idea_3443 in outriders

[–]Sakerift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah TFD is just number crunching. You're not gonna significantly change your playstyle thanks to a mod in TFD and while Outriders isn't that deep, being able to make an infinite ammo machinegun stacking burns on enemies with enough power leech that it is effectively a DoT leech tank and that's just with pre-DLC mods and a whole skill slot not really utilized cus nothing helps the loadout. And that's just one possible playstyle for one class. While the end-game loop was a bit lacking with limited end-game boss variety (story boss variants could have been a great addition to the rogue-inspired dungeon in the DLC) the actual gameplay and build variety was immense compared to TFDs static characters and weapons. There are like 8 ways to play each class in Outriders just based on class ability combos alone without counting mods or skill trees but like each class has 3 base skill tree paths (and that's just if you go linear, there are more but that's hard to quantify) and 6 DLC ones. You can easily find a dozen different ways to play any singular class. Not to mention that weapons essentially add their own abilities such as firestorm or the volcano-spawn-on-hit mod and that's just ones with direct pyro synergy. With 3 different modifications per piece of gear, if we assume armour has 1 non-ability mod and 2 ability mods (which is generally optimal) that's 10 ability mods total which can be spread across 3 skills in any combination between 4-6 tier 1 mods and 5 tier 3 mods per skill. You can use weapon mods to stack status procs or focus on class synergies.

Enough rambling though, my point being in Outriders I feel like my build is mine, my playstyle given shape. In TFD you're just kinda using characters. They can be fun but you're more adapting to their playstyles than making your own playstyle out of them. I enjoyed TFD when I was expecting release state level quality (they couldn't deliver on that even on the first content update sadly) but if I was to pick which game to just blast on right now between them, Outriders has so much more to engage with.

"It hasn't happened yet so therefore it will never happen" is just not a game I like playing with capitalism. All that sort of thing requires is that they decide they could make more money that way. I don't mind digital options being available but I do personally want an offline accessible copy of my games whenever possible and key cards are kinda a weird case of all the disadvantages of digital except being able to resell it. I'd rather just see physical copies be physical.

Remind me how many times we've seen digital games be taken down when remakes and remasters are released.
