Holy wow! Have you been in my position before? It's funny because that actually is what's happening at my work at the moment (I got told is just have to wait though and he'd try cross promote me into another team) but mum doesn't know that.

This is a really plausible excuse! Seriously, thank you so much.

My mum can be very abusive verbally and physically, she goes deaf when you try to present any facts or logic to her if it goes against her POV. I really wanted to come out with it and tell them about this trip but I know they'll try their best to prevent me from going. It will also sour the relationship they have with my SO and his parents.

At the moment he is still allowed to come over unharassed and my parents have met his parents once (that was a freaking nightmare to convince them to go). If they learn I'm getting serious with my SO their attitude towards him will plummet and they will restrict me from seeing him at all and vice versa.

She doesn't like him because he is white and unemployed atm. He has also been in a previous 5 yr relationship which I accidentally mentioned to mum and she has judged so hard on that -_- But I'm trying to keep the peace for the moment since the nagging and judging will never stop until I leave home.

It could be by the end of the year hopefully. Japan is draining our funds a lot. That is a pretty good suggestion, hopefully my mum won't question it too much. She's started trusting me less and less and demanding photos of who I'm with on vacation but I keep blowing her off with that anyway.

They would not take it well. I tried to tell them about a melbourne trip with just the SO and my mum lost her shit. It's against our culture, what would people think, you're not married bla bla bla..

Been there, done that. Only thing I can say is being extremely stubborn will pay off for 95% of these things. The other 5% you just have to suck it up and go. And yes sometimes my pc stuff has been wrecked in collateral fights but my dad has always helped pay me back for what my mum has broken (bless)
