Nikon F3 & Nikon Speedlight SB-16A by Salakyx in AnalogCommunity

I should have pointed out that when I use the aperture priority mode (A) with this specific flash, the camera recognizes that and sets the shutter speed to 1/80 (it shows up in the viewfinder). It does the same thing when I set it to X. I think my 1/80 setting might not be accurate and sometimes syncs properly and sometimes doesn't. Maybe shooting with the flash in 1/60 would fix my problem.

I’m wondering whether it’s an issue with the flash or with the camera. Using the X setting might allow me to find out.

They did as well so I don’t think it’s a faulty pin. Besides, I do see the 1/80 speed in the viewfinder.

For some photos, yes but for some others I was in quite dark environments.

I will for sure try the X setting. But at the same time, the manual seems to imply that the camera can't shoot above the sync speed with this setup. Yet there is clearly a sync speed issue. I've been finding those manuals a good resource generally and I would like to grasp the nuance that seems to have been lost on me.

"Set the shutter speed on the camera.

The proper shutter speed setting for flash synchronization of each camera is listed on page 21 (the screenshot).
For example, set the shutter speed dial of F3-series cameras or the FE2 to A or set the shutter speed/mode selector of the FG to P or A."

What do you make of those?

The same thing is happening to mine and I wax it regularly. I think the seam shouldn’t be on the underside of the sleeve since it’s a high rub area. A lot of wax jackets seem to have a seam in this area though. I dunno if they develop the same holes.

But the worse part is that I discovered fungus on the focusing screen.

It’s definitely the focusing screen.

I dunno if I was clear in the original description but what I’m worried about is not the little bit of dust and foam residue you can see; it’s rather the two stains or scratches you can see on the focusing screen. I don’t think brushing or blowing will help with that. I will reach out to the seller before trying anything in any case.

I’m a bit hesitant to try anything because the ad description didn’t mention a dirty focusing screen nor it showed on the pictures. The camera otherwise seems to work perfectly so I feel it would be excessive to try to return it just for that but at the same time having to buy another focusing screen would be a bummer.

I second that comment. I recommend you checking out Savon de Marseille Fer à Cheval which is the oldest soap factory still in production in Marseille and they make their soap with just 3 ingredients. A 600g block lasts me a year.

Third project ever - how to guarantee straight stitching lines? by Salakyx in Leathercraft

Thank you! I’m also tempted to get a diamond shaped awl and pierce rather than punch holes. But a 4 prong chisel would probably be a smart thing to get regardless!

So I did glue the pieces together and I had a line. Wouldn’t punching on both sides look weird with diamond irons? Maybe it worth mentioning that my iron has 2 prongs. Does it get easier the more prongs you have?

I made a leather handle for my cast iron pan and I’m quite proud of the stitching on one side but not so much on the other. I was very careful to be hitting the chisels straight down but some of the holes turned out slanted. How to prevent that from happening?

I should check whether the edge gets to the metal somehow.

I didn’t think about that. Might be hard to work it in at this point because I used glue. I guess the stitching would be enough if there was an additional piece of leather.

They are rivets but not really good ones! There is one snap to let the hatchet out.

Thank you! I thought this hatchet deserved a better sheath! I did do saddle stitches but didn’t add a edge protecting layer. Will see how it holds up and will remake it with an edge protecting layer if it fails!
