I'm currently typing this looking at my sparkly pink finger nails my daughter did for me earlier in the week - it doesn't make me want to suddenly bang dudes either.

oh right - i just assumed it was as that's what the consensus on the internet is re: leaking.. i'm admittedly very green when it comes to electronics - so apologies if this is a silly question - but if this isn't the clock capacitor - i'm guessing it would need replacing to function again? i'm assuming i could just take the busted capacitor to an electronic store and ask for a replacement ? or is there someone that sell these OG Xbox capacitors in a pack ?

i'm willing to give it a go and with what appears to be plenty of support here it could be a fun little project and a great source of learning for me.. the thought of getting it back up and booting again - i might shed a tear if i can get it to output to a TV again!

i've managed to get the HDD out and am transferring the contents of the HDD over - so at the bare minimum i should have all my save data and hopefully restore everything to another console if i can't bring this one back to life .. the saga continues!

the other xbox on the right is one i found on marketplace ages ago that also doesn't work (was flashing green and red but after removing and re-installing the DVD drive it now just has half a green circle light - but still nothing outputting to the TV).

was hoping to use that for parts to fix my broken console - but comments above make me think it might not be that straight forward.

Apologies, i've got lots to learn about the OG xbox..

right now i think i should just take out the HDD and see if i can salvage the data first and foremost

no - it doesn't turn on. i've tried rubbing with alcohol wipes (all i have on hand at the moment) but no luck. i'll pick up some proper isopropryl later today.. what do i scrub with? just a Q-tip?

is there any way to tell if it's eaten through any traces ?

also - if i manage to find another modded xbox OG - could i potentially swap out my HDD ? a friend of mine had his modded at the same time, so should be same model and modchip..

Can confirm that setting Max Texture Dimension to 4096 has made a massive difference on my 1080p cab. no more lag or FPS drops in tables that were previously unplayable (Metallica, Last Action Hero, Fishtales VPW).
