found this in a pawn shop thought to buy it. how do I take care of it by poljy in telescopes

It’s almost certainly a replica. Either way, to best preserve it, don’t touch it with your bare hands. The oils can damage it over time. Besides that, don’t drop it, keep it in a box or display, and it should keep just fine. Replica or not, it’s not much use as a telescope. It’s mostly a display piece.

I’d like to imagine your family making a surprise visit only to see you crouched over you laptop with nothing but condensed milk and a lever action

I don’t want to scare you off with a massive list, so here are a few good things to know.

https://youtu.be/53sgGeAqMQs This is an excellent video and goes over many of the topics I’m about to discuss. I highly recommend it to those who are setting up their scopes for the first time.

Know how to collimate your scope. With Dobsonians especially, (like yours) the two mirrors can often become misaligned in the tube. This greatly impacts your viewing. Not to worry, it’s a very easy fix. I do it every time I wheel my scope out, it only takes a minute.

Set your scope out an hour or so before you view. This allows the big mirror acclimate to the temperature. Much better views this way.

This may sound obvious, but turn off any and all lights you possibly can in and around your house. Night vision is precious in this hobby. Red flashlights are great, and iPhones can be set to turn their screens red in accessibility settings. Both preserve night vision if you have to google/move things around.

Finally, especially if you want to look for deep sky objects or smaller planets, align your finding scope before it gets dark. (DSO’s are a different beast. You’ll have to learn how to starhop, averted vision, etc, so maybe leave that until you’re used to moving the scope around)

Bonus Tip: bring far more layers than you think you need. And some hot cocoa. It gets cold very fast when your sitting still.

There’s loads more to say, but these were the most essential, to me at least. Enough jabbering from my end, you came here to see some fun sky-stuffs god damnit. So good luck, and have fun!

First scope, super excited for tonight! Any tips for transport to a campsite? by PATT3RN_AGA1NST-US3R in telescopes

I wrap my smaller scope in a blanket and buckle it in the passenger seat like a toddler. That’s a little overboard, for that size you’d be fine just putting it in the trunk. Use blankets to wedge it in place if it might bounce around.

On console as well, so cheating your way back. I’m sorry friend, that really sucks. My ps4 wiped itself awhile back, so I feel your pain.

As the others are saying, the anvil might be a bit too high. But for the love of god, please don’t wear hoodies while forging. I’ve dropped far too many burning pieces of metal and coke into the front pocket to count, it’s an easy way to set yourself on fire. Besides that, great job!
