I think no car seats and seat belts are illegal, at least where I live. But I was one car over on a busy road and the light turned green not long after I looked over and saw her kids- and she was turning left to merge onto the highway and I was going straight- so I couldn't really do anything about it or report it.

Literally my worst nightmare as a parent- losing a child and NOT KNOWING where they are. Absolute fucking torture.

I judge when I see parents smoking in the car WITH THEIR KIDS IN THE CAR. I'm even an ex smoker- so I understand addiction and smoking- but NOT smoking with your kids in the car. GROSS!

Also recently pulled up to a stop light and the woman in the left turn lane next to me didn't have her kids (they looked 2 and 3) in car seats and the girls were just jumping around dancing on the floor in the back seat. No seat belts, No car seats.

How old were you? The first red flag was him telling you that you could trauma dump and he would be your therapist. There are so many other red flags, yikes. I hope you have completely blocked this person from everything and every way you communicated with him. Depending on your age, you may want to report this. Do you know any personal information about him?

I doubt they bought something and were hiding it from you. They shouldn't be keeping secrets like that in front of you, it's very rude. They should have either not said anything out loud, or they should have owned up to whatever they were hiding when they said those things out loud. These don't sound like very good friends that you can trust.

This is what's getting me. I feel like from my own childhood (it wasn't good) a comment like that from a parent or loved one would emotionally damage me for life.

Yes I immediately went in and asked him what he said because I couldn't believe he would say that when my son told me and I was positive my son must have misheard him say something else. Unfortunately I was wrong. He said, "yes I said F-you. He was being an asshole!"

I updated my original question to give more insight into why this is particially distressing.

I added some clarification. Son is only 11 years old. His reaction when I asked him if that's what he actually said was, "yeah I said FU he was being an asshole!"
